It was an OK experience. They had what I was looking for - thankfully a friend was able to describe to me where to look in the store, otherwise, I'm not sure I would have found it. It's smaller than the other locations I have been to...sq ft and ceiling height. Smaller parking lot. Don't park next to or walk parallel to the building in the winter...there are signs as well. You could absolutely be hit with snow or icicles. Luckily, there were a few spots open. Walking in, it felt like an old grocery store from the 70s/80s. Building definitely hasn't been updated, more just maintained. There were shelves and stacks everywhere...made the store feel very cramped - a lot of stock. Things were organized by category, like, Pets, Grocery, toys, hardware etc. One thing that I was impressed by, was the hardware section, which was to the right and it was in it's own building. There were seasonal offerings, as we visited around Christmas time. I was able to find some fun stocking stuffers. They were decent prices. I found the pet supplies - they definitely favor dogs more than other animals. A lot of the bigger ticket items, seemed to have damage and or no packaging. Marden's has been one of my favorite stores to peruse for 30+ years. Visited this location yesterday on the hunt for some different sizes than what I'd found at the Lewiston location (Free People dresses and tanks). While this location is small they do pack it in. Loads of good finds for outdoor entertaining/outings (pool floats, coolers, drink cuzies), tons of cleaning supplies, kitchen towels and wares and more. My shopping companion was elated to find so many J. Jill dresses, shirts, and shoes. Seriously she purchased a few shirts and a dress for less than $15 each - total steal. And don't let me forget the candy! So many candies, some I'd never even heard of before. While I didn't find what I was looking for I did have fun digging for treasures. read more

So my husband is at the golf course and he overheard a local that this place has great golf clubs and accessories on sale at a fraction of the price you would normally pay. So he was psyched to come here on our way down south to Massachusetts. They had crazy ass signs outside warning not to park too close to the building due to ice and snow. That is a funny sign to see being it is July and we are from Florida. Once inside it is literally a dump. With crap all over. It is like being one step up from a garbage dump with price tags. Needless to say no golf clubs or accessories. Thank God my husband wasn't getting stock tips from this guy. So since we were here we walked through the entire store. There was women's clothes in the back on racks. Not inexpensive either. If I found myself trapped in this God forsaken area and I was hard up for shopping I would discover the internet really quick for bargains instead. read more

Wow. This is NOT the Marden's of South Portland/Scarborough. This is like an explosion happened at an off brand emporium, which left boxes strewn about and items haphazardly stacked. The employees were unsure of what they had and I am not surprised by this in the least. It was like a hoarder had tried to organize and then have an over priced garage sale. For what they were trying to sell, I wasn't impressed by the prices overall, and I have gotten some AMAZING deals at other Marden's. This place is a straight up dump. My recommendation is to first, thank Paul LePage for this place, and secondly go anywhere else. Anywhere. read more

Mardens is a grungy surplus/salvage store where one sifts through a bunch of low quality stuff for the hidden gems from nice stores marked 80% or more below retail. It is what it is, an experience, one where 9 West shoes are pricier than they are at Marshalls, but where there's always a chance of scoring Jimmy Choo's for $80. Mardens and I had a good run, twenty years, lots of designer clothing and shoes, before I had to make the dreaded return because the $650 dress I'd purchased for $50, didn't fit correctly. My fault I didn't try it on as I'd spotted it just after the five minutes until closing warning. The return policy laid out on thier website was straightforward, 30-days, refund with receipt. The process in store, was the only thing there that isn't minimal. The two clerks at the customer desk marked returns had to call a third clerk over before beginning the return. While waiting for the third person to arrive one of the clerks tried on the item I was returning. After a bit of a wait the third clerk arrived and examined the item I was returning, looking for an internal code which it lacked, examining seams, giving the tags a thorough look-see for alterations, questioning the price and leaving me wondering what was going on. The tags were on the item, I had my receipt, the credit card receipt and it was well within the allotted 30-days. After about ten minutes they did decide to take the return, but as I stood and watched the process it looked as though they were trying to decide if they were accepting returns or not, I was fully expecting to be told no. After filling out a card with my name, address and phone number, they did refund to my card. The process was overly time consuming, clunky and straight up strange with the clerk trying the article of clothing on over her clothes. read more
