Lots of mugs, Maine T-shirts, key chains, refrigerator magnets, postcards and other things found in the typical tourist place. But Ports of Call is also has a lot of very cool military surplus stuff like jackets, sweaters, optics and bags at very reasonable prices. Definitely a fun place to poke around. The store is dark, kind of funky smelling and very woody. Lots of ropes and other nautical stuff just hanging around, it has a very pleasantly tacky décor. An interesting store, you can find the plenty tacky touristy stuff here and if you dig and look a bit you just might find something more.

I know as a local I am not the target audience so that is why I went with a 4 over a 3. I do believe it may be worth a stop in especially for those visiting the area. Has a good variety of Maine centric items. You'll likely be paying a premium and can find similar items cheaper. The staff seemed uninterested in their jobs not greeting anyone and keeping their faces down in their phones. Like I said I was considering a 3 star review but as I am not the target audience I have given them a 4 instead.

French bakery in Auburn, Maine. I think years ago, it burned down. And what happened after that I don't know. I think it was 2 years ago, I discovered that Marden's sells them. Now when I come to Maine, I have to go to Marden's to get my Labadie's whoopie pies. I think I bought about 10 to mail back to me in Austin. Whoopie pies were $1.50 each. Also picked up a windshield cover for the outside of the car. Winter is coming in Maine thought that would be a useful gift for my aunt and uncle's cars. Save a little time scrapping the ice and snow off. The windshield covers were only $9.00 each. Cashier was really nice. I asked her if she was closing the store or if she would be choking home soon. She said no, I'm closing the store but we close at 5pm today so not much longer. She was sweet.

If you grew up in Maine or been here long…read moreenough you likely have heard or seen their famous jingle and/or could even remember the "Marden's Lady". Over the years I have visited quite a large portion of the Marden's stores. I will say I believe this is one of the better locations and one of the largest I think. For selection I would say this location has such a huge variety of everything you could imagine plus so many items you wouldn't expect! You will go in looking to buy say a pair of socks or a rug and wind up walking out with a hammer, garden hose, snacks, and who knows what else. Along with the variety you can definitely find deals that are cheaper than anywhere else. I've found you can find some of the best deals on clothing here. Some other items are just worth passing on though oppositely. Have had no major complaints service wise here at all. Friendly staff although checking out may be a bit slower at times. Despite this and the fact some items really aren't worth buying overall a great store to stop at and browse for some good deals!

It is tough to add pictures because pictures wouldn't do this place any justice. I will say, if you get overwhelmed easily with a press of merchandise all around, you may need to steel yourself before going in. There are a lot of sections of the store, many cases of many things, so it is likely they have something you're looking for, assuming you're looking for magickal, spiritual, or other wares in those veins. There are varying levels of quality and price points. The staff are very nice as well, and if you have a particular interest they can guide you to that which you seek. They have 4 parking spots just for their store, and there is other parking nearby. They do not have a public restroom, that is at the bottom of the hill they're on. They do charge a card fee. If you're in town, or the area, come visit this store. I really think you won't be disappointed that you took the time to do so.

This isn't just a store, it's local flavor!…read more Even if you buy nothing, you HAVE to come here just to walk around. There is SO MUCH TO LOOK AT. Every single inch, every nook and cranny, has something going on. Also - how can you not love a place that has glitter confetti ALL OVER THE GROUND?! It's a two-story "theater" (their words) offering "metaphysical gifts including Wiccan, spiritual, fantasy, and extramundane needs" (again, their words). My words? It's full of unique things and curiosities and wonders and magic and I don't totally understand everything that's happening here, except this must be the same feeling people in the (19)20's had when a carnival would roll into town... then overnight be gone! There's a few things to note about this store: they prefer you don't touch much (there are signs everywhere asking that you not) and they prefer you don't take photos (which is why you don't see many). And, because there's an overwhelming amount of stuff it can a) be very easy to get turned around in and b) can be difficult to navigate the extremely narrow aisles. Just be patient and allow yourself to take it all in!

Located right on RT 1 and impossible to miss, everyone that goes through here sees Big Al's and I suspect most people have stopped in, at least once. Look up the words "tourist trap" in the dictionary and you'll probably see a picture of Big Al's. Big Al claims he has over 10,000 items and although I've never counted, it's easy to believe. There's stuff piled up in front of the store and piled in heaps or hanging on the walls or from the ceiling inside. Weird, unique and incredibly strange things every place you look. Yeah, most of it is cheap and tacky. The usual souvenir stuff, crummy T-shirts and hats, cheap mugs, refrigerator magnets, weird garden thingies, toys and beach stuff and of course the "as seen on TV" crap. A great place to find cheap and tacky souvenirs for cheap and tacky friends and family members and In between the heaps of cheap and tacky crap there are some interesting and cool things, you just have to look for them. And that's part of the fun of this store. Big Al's is a cool and fascinating place. You can even get free coffee while you dig through the piles of stuff. The type of place where you just might find a hidden gem or something really cool. But then again sometimes cheap and tacky is just what I'm looking for.

That being said theres a few things that are uniquely and insanely annoying about every location. #1 there isnt a good boxing station. I do like that they use boxes, it makes a lot of sense, however theres not a good place to accomplish the task of putting everything into a box. So youre using like the picnic eating tables or an empty register to do it and youre always in the way. #2 the location of the bathroom is so insanely frustrating. It is ALWAYS beyond the checkout and with no clear path to/from it. So if you have to use the restroom before checkout it is such a process and so inefficient because youre having to go through the open checkout aisles. #3 no aisle labels + the location of where things are and what they carry is constantly changing. They have an amazing selection but it is not consistent at all. #4 the location of the carts is on the other side of where you come in, so the traffic leaving the out doors is always clashing with the traffic arriving to the in doors. They should put the bulk of carts on the side of the in door. Otherwise i love Costco, but these are systematic things that just make no sense that to me would be pretty simple to fix when they open new stores but the issues are always the same.

It is surprising we haven't been here despite being on exchange street so many times. Some of the items in the window were what caught my wife's attention and brought us in the door. Then went on to say it's a recent item to arrive and has been tempted to get for themselves too. This store has quite a selection of items, with a good amount of seasonal items currently with plenty of Halloween/fall things. They have clothing, crystals, incenses, and lots of nature inspired items. You'll see lots of mushrooms, plants, butterflies, skulls to give some examples. Prices did seem very reasonable for the most part. Overall the vibes here are an overall nice and inviting shop with items marketed towards open minded free spirited people. We will definitely return, my wife would buy many items from here! Check it out if you are walking around shopping at all nearby stores.
