Welcome to Salem/Keizer Piano for adults and QuickStart Piano® - Where Adults Learn by Playing the Music They Love Most.
We all come with a history - musical highlights and inspirations, and sometimes baggage, too. Of all the stories I've heard, the most heartbreaking are from those people who were discouraged at a young age:
"You'll never be good enough."
"You can't learn this."
"You're just not musical."
Imagine believing such things for the first 30, 40, 50 years of your life. The real tragedy is that it's simply not true.
With the right approach, anyone can play.
In the words of my students:
"I can't believe how quickly I can play real music!"
"It Feels Easy."
"Practice is So Much Fun."
History
Established in 1989.
I grew up in the Willamette Valley and graduated from Western Oregon with a B.S. in Music (Piano Pedagogy Emphasis).
I have over 30 years experience performing in church and community venues.
In the past my studio has included Kindermusik classes and small group piano classes for young children. Over time I came to specialize in intermediate students of middle school and high school age. In addition to the basics like note-reading, scales, and technique, lessons included ensemble playing (2-6 players at once) and exploring various styles such as Jazz, Rock & World Music. Students also utilized a computer music lab for theory, ear-training, and sight-reading drills.
Currently, I specialize in music instruction for adult learners. Piano for Grown-Ups!
Though my degree is in Classical music, I find beauty and value in all forms of music. I'm always eager to explore something new, and I love helping students learn to play in their favorite styles.
