From the beginning Susan was super quick to answer any and all questions. The design process was fun! One of our main reasons for choosing Better Built was some of quality details. Real Windows from Pella. Not aluminum shed windows. We chose a beautiful full glass door also. The ability to add an extension to the building sold me ! The Heritage model has eaves that are similar to our home. I can't say enough good about our experience!! Lots of communication before the install with a text message confirming too. The installation crew (Isaac and Sam) were so professional and kind! They worked clean and were here when they said they would be. They did a great job. I made them cookies the 2nd day for their long trip here and working in 30 degree temps with pretty thick fog too. We are extremely happy! We first saw these barns at Lowes and found one we liked but decided it would be better to buy directly from Better Built. They don't have too many showrooms so you either buy off their website or you travel to one of their locations. I happen to be traveling by their location in Lakewood which took a few minutes to find. When I went there, the person there was helpful and took me around through the back of the shop where I could see how the construction was. I thought, given the price and the materials, it was a good deal. It was good to talk to her because not all of the information is on the website. I recommend you either visit a location or call the store to talk to them about how the order goes together. Some things to consider, they require a level place to place the shelter. In our case, we were doing other work in our backyard and we poured a concrete slab for the foundation. However, concrete blocks, etc. can be used but they do not do the site prep. Also, the purchaser is required to caulk and paint the shelter after it is set up. The materials will not withstand long exposure to the elements without being painted and caulked. So don't be surprised when they tell you that is your job. We really like the shed and now all of our lawn furniture and yard tools, lawn mower, etc. can sit inside. It looks nice in our back yard. The worst part is their customer service, mainly lack of it. Our order clearly specified location of windows in terms of height and offset, but they placed the windows at the wrong location. When I spoke to the builders on-site before the construction, they said they could not accommodate the request because the material was pre-cut. Even though I had confirmed documentation regarding the window location, Better Built Barns refused to honor or fix it. There are quality issues with door gaps and nails missing studs all over the place. Attaching a couple of example pictures below. I asked for an insulated floor, but the floor insulation is loose and most foam pieces fell off the floor frame. Most of these simple "upgrades" come at a huge price premium, so they really should do it correctly. I tried to reach out them twice later to ask for a customer service manager to call me since I wanted to point out these quality issues and give them a chance to fix it before my review. They never bothered to respond or call me. During the pandemic, it appears that business for sheds is thriving, so customer service unfortunately goes out the door. read more

I compared the Better Build Barns product to the other mass builders in the area and was pleasantly pleased at the how stout you could get it built. Yes, I ordered optional items but a floor built out of pressure treated 2x6's, 16 inch on center is not often found. 2x4's built with 16 inch on center walls is as good as your house. I had two 12x16 studio's built side by side since anything under 200 sqft in Hillsboro does not need a permit. The Better Built Barn guys came out and got each one built in a full day's work. I caulked and painted them both to meet the warrantee requirements. They are now wired up with electrical permits. The electrical inspector had a bunch of questions, he said he was going to order one. Fully insulated with a little heater and AC unit will allow me to enjoy the winter and summer extremes. Was it work? Yes, but I believe this is the best product you can get. read more

Then while putting some boxes in I noticed that they had missed the stud for about five feet when nailing on the siding. I noticed that the door handle/latch was not installed properly. I was told it was a cheap handle. I can fix these thing but I PAID for a complete, well made shed. The rest of it looks pretty good. read more

I purchased a Better built barn shed in 2015 and it was built on my property, I was very happy with the initial experience until wood under my roof that extends over the porch started getting very wet underneath from several leaks. A couple of their builders came by and said that the little bit of moss on the roof was to blame, but they were going to follow up. I've tried calling to talk with the owner and he NEVER! calls me back to let me know what they are going to do about it. This has been the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Keep this in mind when considering purchasing a shed from them, because they are not very helpful when a problem occurs. I'm done calling them and very disappointed with them now and they'll be the last shed building business I call when I need a new shed built on my new property. read more

I've only ever written positive reviews and that was for outstanding service. This review is, unfortunately, quite the opposite. I spent over $6000 on a Better Built Barns shed and don't feel satisfied with the end product for the money I spent - and customer service is basically non-existent. First, my door never closed all the way and didn't engage the stopper. I contacted Better Built Barns and they told me I had to complete my end of the warranty agreement (caulk and paint the entire shed) before they will send someone out. I understand if I'm having some issues like a leak or some other preventable issue, but this was not that. I bought a shed that is suppose to have a working door. It should work. I contacted them again and they got me confused with another customer (who seemed unhappy as well) and that took about 6 emails and a phone call to clear up. I haven't heard from them since. I contact Lowes (where I purchased the shed) and they got on it lightening fast. I had someone come out and fix the door the following week - but left a HUGE mess. If only that was it. I had included 2 clear vents for light (since they would be the only light source from any East, West, South direction) and the contractor installed them at the peak (it was a slant roof) right next to the windows without even asking me. All the models I looked at had the vents located centrally which is what I was expecting. I'm super disappointed that the vents I was expecting light from, aren't doing that. No response from Better Built Barns regarding that issue either. For the money, I am so disappointed with the end product. The customer service is even worse. Not even a sorry we messed up your $6000 plus shed. read more

They arrived on time and worked very hard the entire day. The shed that we chose is very solid and looks wonderful inside and out. After painting it, it even looks better. My ex husband had a better built barn onto our property. That building was out up in a matter of weeks. Overall, the first barn, is an ok building.. And it came with a 5 yr warranty. After my divorce, I called and ordered a $7,500 barn with 2 lofts. This barn was built by what I call journeyman teenagers. It didn't go as smoothly as the first barn we had them build. They looked like the 3 stoodges, looking to one another to see what happened next. I was so happy to have my own barn to keep my furniture and antiques in, until I sold my property. The door started to stick, having to yank on the handle to open one door, which I called and complaned about. The first rainstorm, I found the leaks. It ruined an antique dresser and desk made of mahogany.. It Split the top of the desk and I wiped off mold from the furniture.. My brother pointed out the leak on the roof, inside the building. I had some friends tarp it for me. I sent them photos thru email. I called several times, now today, they said that I didn't have. A warranty!! I'm like, what? She then said that I didn't purchase a warranty..?!?! Our other barn came with a warranty. Also, I would think a roof of shingles would have a 20 year warranty. She said that I was told about the warranty, which I was not! Why would I have a $7,500 barn and not but a warranty? This is absurd.. They should not be in business. Missleading the client, having young guys without skills build, and it not only leaks be the front, double door, but the side entrance door, which I cannot use, because the tarp is tied to the door. read more

We expected a 4-6 week wait but happily it was only about 2 weeks. The crew was friendly and efficient. The job was completed in one day. I wish that I could have written a review that compliments this firm, but no matter how I tried, it doesn't work. The shed was ordered through Lowes on August 16th, 2016 and installed on Sept 14th, 2016. Yes, it took a month for them to install what is a prefabricated/precut shed. The reason for the delay was not due to a backlog of installations, but what I later was to discover, that being headquartered out of Salem OR, they "piggyback" installations and only come into WA when they have two or more sheds in the same vicinity to put up. Ok, that was a delay nobody said anything about when buying through Lowes. The two man crew showed up around 10am on Wed. Sept 14th and went to work. The guys worked quickly as they were concerned with getting the shed up and not concerned about craftsmanship in any way. Totally a "get in & get out" install. As per Better Built requirements, the purchaser must caulk and seal all nail holes and wood seams which took a day and then the priming and painting began. The first problem noted was the ramp (that is charged as an add-on) was 4 and 1/2 inches above ground at the bottom. Not tapered to ground level. Second issue- the ramp stringer had split when the air nail gun the installer used to attach the bottom ramp board was "shot" into place. Ok, not anything too bad or that cant be fixed. Or you would have thought. The third and largest concern was the double doors. (again, an add-on upgrade). would not open or close properly on the left side. Now in my mind, that's a problem. All of these concerns were advised to Better Built on Monday Sept. 19th. Better Built stated that in order for them to proceed, I would need to take pictures of the problem areas and send them to Better Built and they would get back to me. Also on the 19th, the city building inspector showed up and stated that the ramp was a "tripping and safety hazard" and would not sign off on the paperwork. Now, we have issues. Better Built advised they would have someone come by in a couple weeks- YES, a couple weeks to look at what was wrong. This was unacceptable. Pay over $4,000 dollars for a shed that is not to standards! SO, I went to Lowes and got the Customer Service Install team involved. Fortunately for me, after they saw the pictures and the non-conformance notice from the inspector, they jumped right on it and let Better Built know my, and Lowes displeasure and when looking at the photos were aghast with the sloppy work. Thanks to Lowes I got a call that Matt from Better Built would be up the next week to get all the issues fixed to my satisfaction. How wrong I was, Matt showed up as scheduled and looked at the door (left side) and said the unit had settled and would need to be re-leveled. (which for the record was incorrect, the shed was not then or now out of level). Anyway Matt proceeds to use a mechanics floor jack to raise one side of the shed, which only makes the door opening/closing issue worse. I showed him he was making matters worse by using my 6 foot level on the shed floor. After about 10 minutes of this, Matt agreed the shed was level, but the door was out of plumb. He went to his truck to get his tools- which consisted of a claw hammer, nothing else just a hammer. He then tried to "beat" the door frame two by four in order to adjust the door swing. That didn't work so he began to attempt to pry off the door trim (all the while muttering "please don't split, please don't split over and over) I finally asked why he doesn't use a pry bar? To which he replied, "I don't have one-I lost it". You folks see where this is going don't you? I then went and got him the tools he needed from by toolbox and proceeded to help (tell) him what needed to be done. By this time I was livid with the incompetence. After getting the tools and helping get the door fixed, Matt stated that he did not bring anything to repair the ramp with him but they would have a crew up next week to repair it. Guess what! Didn't happen. After I had not heard from anyone at Better Built, I called down and spoke with Matt who said that it would not be until October 20th until someone would be by to fix the ramp. Great Customer Service. NOT! I had had enough of the delays and issues and non conformance. I went to Lowes and bought a new pressure treated board and spent my time repairing what I paid Better Built to do in the first place. I wouldn't advise anyone outside of the city limits of Salem to use these folks. Nor would I suggest to anyone to use this firm. Not unless you have the time to stand there and watch over the installers to ensure everything is done the way YOU want it. Knowing that you will need to go back later and hammer in all the missing nails. read more

I had this shed built in August 2018. They had it built in approximately 6 hours. Amazing! Unfortunatly, when it goes up so fast, there are more flaws in the project. Some of the nails missed the studs and needed to be redone. Some areas had missing nails. The company did fix some of the issues but I had to redo some of them myself since I was responsible for caulking and painting the building and wanted to get it done before the rainy season came. I have to keep the do it myself repairs to a minimum to avoid invalidating the warranty on it Eventually, I may need to get a better foundation for it. Right now the main problem is when it rains hard with a south wind,water gets in almost certainly around the door area. I suspect it has door issues. It's a double type. And I can see day light at the door cracks. It will have to be determined if that is covered by the warranty or if it is something that I missed on my part or both. I have installed insulation in it and plan to put paneling in it soon, but I need to have the water leaking in issue corrected first so it will be weather proof. The insulation and the two by four in the area by the door is getting wet and could start rotting and I don't want that and that would happen with the paneling as well. The rest of the shed seems to be watertight fortunately. I may have to get the problem area modified. The sooner the contractors come to look at it,the better. Overall, the building was a lot cheaper than having another room added on to our house. I believe it will all work out in the long run. read more

We visited the home show in Seattle and met two of their representatives. They were very pleasant and informative. We were not ready to purchase at the time but took all the necessary information. Few months later, we decided to go for it. We went over the details and specs over the phone. I was give a date for install. The crew showed up as they said they would. They were very polite and worked very hard to get it built in the exact time frame they gave me. There were couple items that needed to be addressed couple weeks later. I contacted the customer service in Oregon. They scheduled for another team to come address the issues. The next crew who came were also super friendly. They fixed what needed to be fixed. We finished it up inside and use it as an office. I am very happy with our shed/office. They did exactly what they said they would do and more. Customer service as well as the building crews were exceptional in my opinion! I would definitely recommend them!! read more
