Also, do not expect to pay what is written on the chalkboard, they somehow don't know how to make the changes in prices on there, but will sure charge you for what the current price is. This use to be my favorite place to get tacos. However, over time the quality and the service has gone downhill. I went there recently and ordered 4 steak tacos. When I received my order. Hands down the best spot in Salem to get delicious tacos and burritos. The price is amazing and the food is even better. It is extremely clean on the interior and their horchata when you can get some (made fresh daily) is so good!! I always take my friends here whenever we need a spot for great food on a budget. So, I have given this restaurant a few chances, but this was the last one. I had a simple burrito, can you mess this up? Well, it was a disaster. The beans were still hard, the rice was dried out and my choice of meat, chorizo and potatoes, was salty and lacked the chorizo zing. This isn't a one time experience. I keep thinking that it has to be better, but it's consistently lacking in flavor, and proper preparation. If you want to see what I mean, try a quesadilla with chorizo, it tastes like a salt lick. Good chorizo can stand on its own, good chorizo is like bacon, add it to anything and the flavor enhances what you added it to, but this chorizo, what ever the problem is taste like slightly spicy salt. No good. It's always busy, but always bad. Yes, I'm bias. I have been eating home cooked Mexican food since I was born. Yes, I'm bias. I grew up with Sonoran style food, and believe that all other regions of Mexico slightly miss the mark with their beans and methods of salting. I don't like what Marco's Place does to this food, and am sorry that I ate their once too many times to have to post this. They obviously have their crowd/customer, but what they are doing to the non-experienced Mexican food eater is a travesty to authentic Mexican food. Nunca Jamas! For something a bit more authentic try Luis' Taqueria in Woodburn, leaps and bounds better. read more

Not sure how people have given this place anything less than 5 stars. The absolute best Carne asada tacos I've had. Overall the food is tremendous. I do agree that the service can lack and they are defintely stingy on the sauce, but the sauce is also some of the best I've ever had. Give them a shot. You will not regret it. You know that old service industry joke "There's good, fast, and cheap. Pick any 2 of the 3"? Well here the one you're not getting is "fast" Despite the simple menu, service is painfully slow. And also indifferent, or maybe even worse than indifferent. The gal working the front counter acted like she didn't give a rat's rectum if we enjoyed our experience or ever came back. She seemed annoyed by our mere presence. Speaking of annoying, they were out of chicken at like 6:00 on a Friday night. How does that happen? BUT, the food was very good and super cheap. $5 for 4 tacos and a bottled soda? That's a crazy good deal. And the tacos are delicious. They're small (all 4 fit in an aluminum foil package about 4 x 4 inches and 2 inches thick) but pretty filling. Green or red? I'm a green man myself, and their green sauce is outstanding; fresh tasting and very flavorful. They don't give you much, but it's enough for 4 small tacos. If you want some good, cheap, authentic-style tacos and you can wait a while for your food go for it. read more

The employees just seem not to care at all as you can tell by the fact they seem miserable and often wearing what looks like pajamas. This is my favorite burrito place in Salem. Their salsa is some of the best I've ever had and we regularly buy extra bottles of it to take home. It's $10 a bottle and worth every penny. We lived in San Jose for five years and there is some damn good Mexican food out there, but Marco's has my vote for best burrito. Try their steak and eggs breakfast burrito with cheese added. I've ordered food from this place on several occasions but tonight was a bit different. I ordered four chicken tacos from drive-thru and requested for some limes as well. The lady said they had ran out of limes for the evening. As she handed over my bag of food, I noticed there was only one very small container of salsa for 4 tacos. Are you kidding me?! I waited in my car until someone would assist me. A young gentlemen opened the window and I requested for an extra salsa. He was kind enough to give one to me. This restaurant can be so stingy with their food sometimes!! There had been another time, when I had ordered tacos and there was barely any meat in them. Marco's has some of the best tacos in town, and definitely the best combo deal (3 with a small side of tomatoes, lettuce, guacamole, beans, and rice for $5.99)! I have made the same order at nearly every other Mexican food restaurant and food truck in town, and Marco's is still the cheapest - and pretty delicious for that price! If I remember correctly, single tacos are $0.99 apiece. Every time I go there I get crappier service each time. I used to really like getting their tacos but the quality has been getting worse. Also every time I give them a certain amount of cash that's close to the total I don't get my change back. I'm not a stickler when it comes to that kind of stuff but I don't think it's okay to be skimming change. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I'm here like four times a week. Best fish tacos ever! Family run place so it's always the same people working there. They know I only want green salsa and they always get my order right. The one time they didn't get my order right it was because they included a bunch of stuff that was delicious and that I didn't pay for. So can't complain about that! I've only ever had the fish tacos, but it's my favorite Mexican food. They are yummy. Because the food is so good, they are always jam packed at lunch time. You have to go at 11:30 during the week if you don't want to stand in line for 15 min. Wish they had more seating and now that it's nice, seating outside. I have been eating at Marcos (and Laperla) for a long time. Go to lunch spot. Authentic tacos. My favorite are the al pastor. The green salsa compliments the tacos perfectly. The breakfast burritos are the best around. Hands down not even close. These are real recipes cooked by people who know what they are doing. My office is nearby so I eat here often. The worst part about the restaurant I read reviews and held off on trying it!!! MARIA is a very gracious hostess. Seriously the BEST FISH TACO I ever had. My first time today I asked a guy in line if they were any good. BAM!! He said they were they best around! He was right. I got the Chili Relleno Platter and one Fish Taco just to try them. YUM!!! Delicious food but if you want people to use cash for a purchase under $5...at least have change for those transactions! This has been the 3rd time they have told me they don't have change. Change may not make a difference to some people but it matters to me. Also the wait today was very long and the lady practically threw the food at me when it was finally done. I was in Salem to hang out with some friends and one of them suggested this place for a quick bite to eat for dinner. I ordered 2 al pastor tacos and 1 carne asada tacos with beans, rice, and a side salad. The seasoning on the al pastor tacos was standard, spicy as it should be. The carne asada taco was not my favorite. The sides were the typical Mexican sides. The sauces on the table were pretty good, but nothing blew me away. We also tried the fried ice cream, it was decent, again, nothing to write home about. Service was fast and friendly. Someone mentioned how dirty the tables are here and I can't disagree. They use table cloths on the tables and as one can imagine, the sauces and juices usually associated with Mexican food is not very forgiving so there were a few stains from someone's lunch earlier in the day at our table. Not offputting to me though. Overall, given the quick service and the reasonable menu, I would give this place 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars due to no 1/2 stars on yelp. read more

Best authentic street tacos this far North of the border, hands down. I grew up in So. Cal. where good Mexican food was found only in the kitchens of families who immigrated from there. I got tacos and a chimichanga. The food was good no complaints there. My complaints and irritation are in their service. They gave me a plastic number when I paid, presumably for them to identify where to bring the food once ready, that wasn't the case. I sat outside and when my food was ready the girl working there opened the door and yelled my number out. I was confused as to why she didn't just bring my food out, I was with a large group so this was bad service. When I went in she asked if I wanted salsa I said yes. She gave me the bottles and very rudely stated I wasn't allowed to take them out. Food is good but service sucks. read more

Quaint Mexican restaurant for a quick bite. Good taste and value for the food, but the chicken is a little on the dry side. Small tables though. Not a place to stay and savor a meal - seating's limited and little ambience. Better than Taco Bell menu, though. Ordering could happen at a snappier pace too. I went through the drive thru, was asked to park on the side so i did, we spent twenty plus minutes waiting for our food. We watched as four orders that were taken after ours were taken out to waiting cars. We still never got our order. Ended up being late for work, did not even get our food and when we called to see what the issue was we were treated rudely, and like we had done something wrong. Ended up driving off without our food, it was an experience that made me take this place off my list forever. read more
