It wasn't completely packed for a Saturday afternoon but staff was really busy with customers. The vibe was one that made us comfortable for the most part. After a few minutes of looking over the menu, we were ready to order. My selection was the Tavern Monte Cristo which consisted of chargrilled chicken and ham as the protein with Gouda cheese and cider aioli fried in a tempura batter with tavern fries. The meal was served hot and ready and tasted great. And having the cranberry coulis as a dipping sauce really added some taste. My only gripe with the sandwich was the amount of protein. I'm not sure if I ate most of it when we dined in, but when I ate the rest for dinner, it was more breading than anything else. Still good but they could've included more. Nonetheless, I was full. The only thing i didn't like, was that you have to order at the bar versus the waitress coming to your table. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, or if they did it that way because they were short staffed. One of the employees did come check on us a couple of times and she was super nice. I tried to keep the kids away from other tables by giving them boundaries. They were not happy with us. They didn't like the kids being outside in their patio (freezing, no one out there) etc. The one server was getting destroyed. She had just like 6 tables, but a 16 top. I felt badly for her. Our drinks correspondingly took about 20-30 minutes each time we tried to order. She was nice when she could get to us. At one point a person who said they were a manager, I think she said her name was Hannah, came over and said the kids couldn't be going around (again, I had boundaries not by any other patrons etc. from what I could see they were honoring them, but who knows), anyway she asked if we could keep them by us, which is fine. I then asked her if I could put in a beer and app order as I had been waiting for our server with an empty beer for at least 20 minutes. Instead of taking the order and ringing it in, she said she'd send the server over and disappeared never to be seen again. 5 minutes Iater the server was able to get free from her big table and get our beer orders and food in. Several items were forgot, but at this point we were kind of over it. Just not really your typical relaxed brewery vibe. Felt like they wanted it to be more of a sit down restaurant. That big long story to say it's not a spot for kids. Overall food and drinks are solid. Beer is solidly middle of the pack for Peninsula. Management needs some work.

Bird Girl is situated in the super cute, cozy area of Hilton Village. If you're not familiar with the area, it is comprised of businesses in retrofitted homes from the early 1900s. The shop and pizza kitchen are located inside the first floor of the home, and there are a few high top tables inside. Most of the seating is outdoors in the "front yard" with picnic tables and high top bench seating. The yard is fenced, making it a wonderful option for families with children. We went on a very busy Friday evening and had to wait about 40 minutes for a table to free up for our group of 12 (6 adults, 6 kids). It was no problem waiting because we just got a few drinks (the wine slushies are so good!) and let the kids play and color. The vibe was really like a back yard hang out, and the clientele is very relaxed and friendly. This isn't pretentious brew pub. Their wine room is lined with bottles to purchase and enjoy there or take home. There are two large coolers with many different craft beers, and they do have a few craft options on draft. For the non-alcohol crowd they have a great selection of NA beers and wines, and sodas as well. They even have juice boxes for the kids! Their selection is great for trying new things and finding your next favorite. Feeling adventurous? Try a brown paper wrapped "mystery beer". Their pizzas. Ya'll. Honestly, I was impressed with how friendly and social the kitchen was (it's an open concept) while they were still working like crazy. Again, just good people all around. We also had the blackened tuna, which was actually pretty good. It was a dish we were able to split between the two of us, and we both enjoyed it. I didn't like getting my drink in a plastic cup--that set me back a bit. All in all, it was a decent experience. It's on my list of places to visit, but probably not somewhere I'd go every six to eight weeks.
