Startlingly bad service. Horrendous experience.
I went here today with a friend who was in town upon the recommendation of a hotel across the street. I live in the neighborhood and had heard about this cafe before.
Upon walking in, we ordered a croissant at the counter and then sat in the back room. The waitress came over 1 minute later asking what we wanted and we ordered a green tea and asked for two cups. I held onto my menu as I was looking to order more dishes but she grabbed it out of my hands and said that two cups were against policy. I told her that was fine, but I still wanted to see the menu to order something else. She repeated herself insisting that two cups was against policy. I asked two more times for the menu and explained that I wanted to order something else, I didn't want the second cup at this point. Finally she gave it back and after looking and having her hover over me, I decided to stick with the tea and croissant.
She brought the food over and then left us. A few moments later, she starts taking to a colleague of hers working in the cafe. We over hear her loudly discussing the "skinny guy" (me), calling us cheap because we ordered tap water, etc. Her colleague then goes into the back room we were sitting in and gives my friend a dirty look before returning.
After hearing them chat more about us, in front of other customers, I got up and asked them if there was a problem. Shockingly, they admitted that we were the subject of their gossiping.
I went back to my table startled, grabbed my coat and told them I was leaving. They made no effort to apologize or explain. It was incredibly bizarre. I have never had an experience like this before. Obviously will not be returning. read more
