Ever feel the need to eat natural wine fed Sourdough produced in an old Aesop bottle? Ever while away the hours drinking fresh ground whilst debating/googling the merits of the Maldives vs Ibiza?
Jolene will do this to you just because she can..
Another slightly out of town gem in Stoke Newington. Part bakery, part café, BIG, light, airy and a little bit ott with its pricing, certainly not a place for auld folk and cost prohibits the yoofs. It is a Marmite kind of thing. Love it, Hate it. No middle ground.
From the bakery on site (using the wheat grains from chemical-free crops grown in a sustainable way) - apricot and butter pudding, Naroques bread, sausage rolls, Madeleines and cinnamon buns. Off the pseudo aga menu you can scoff up a plate of Eggs, Jamon, and potatoes or Curried Spinach, Soft Egg, Crumbs. The veggie options are diverse. They like their lentils and spelt here. Obviously. Most plates tend to be oomphed with things like goats curd, and [some] vegetables. Lots of comfort food too, Cheese Toasties, Tomato/Pumpkin Soup, Caesar salad, Poultry salads, Parmesan snow on everything ....
Sit at one of the two huge sharing tables or use the counter seating overlooking the kitchen and bakery or the front terrace and just glug from the small selection of natural whites, reds and sparkling wines.
Jolene's concept is promo' of sustainable farming methods to preserve the soil for future generations and, as a reinforcement of the futuregens, the logo/brand ID was the output from a 6 year old. Why would we not do our bit for the young'uns!?
Should you feel your artsy perspective coming on post Jolene then, Evolutionary Arts Hackney (EartH), Rio Indy Cinema or Vortex Jazz club are all within easy walking.
