Had my bike worked on. He had no idea about things he did wrong. Had to have him redo. He was going to give money back, ha ha ha. He wanted to charge me more for fixing his mistakes. He almost got me killed by the crap he did. He said he knew it all. He over charged!!! Way over charged. I will never even think about going back to get screwed again. I called two dealers and a major bike parts house all said he did wrong. He laughed and said they didn't know what they were talking about. He even threatened me. He was to have worked on the front & rear brakes. He did not touch them. I was riding home and hit the rear brske. Oh oh no brake the pedal had no pressure. Went down to the foot plate. I have been taking my bikes to Marcelo long since he moved from Burbank - for years. I own four bikes, (BMW R1150GSA, Honda XR650R, Honda CB1100F, Honda CB400F) and as you can see everything from dirt bikes, to the BMW GS to the older Honda stuff and I primarily go to Marcelo. He is the ONLY guy in LA that knows how to tune the tricky and one-year make, Honda CB1100F. Furthermore, he is the ONLY guy I will let touch my CB1100F or my CB400F. I also will not hesitate to bring in my BMW for anything. He is honest, hard working and does not beat around the bush. His shop isnt flashy, with couches and waiting rooms and the like. He just knows how to fix bikes and he does it for a better price than any I have found and best of all he is honest. If you dont need work done, he will tell you. I was out in the valley one time, I realized I was really low on oil so I swung into his shop and topped me off and refused to take money.... he's just a good guy. I hate to hear anyone say bad things about Marcelo, he is a good guy and he runs a good shop. read more

I'm not super mechanical so I don't know if you will find the lowest prices here but the service was great, staff seemed knowledgeable, and I didn't feel ripped off! Marcelo's was super nice and very helpful. The parts were about the same price as the labor and I didn't think I was over charged for any parts. As a girl I always have to be ready for men to try and rip me off with stuff like this so I called a male friend and he recommended the shop to me. I would have to say it was a good recommendation. I annoying called the place about 5 times to get some information about my bike and each time he was very nice and helped me out a lot. The shop is in a tiny garage down an alley and can by a little hard to find if it's your fist time. Only downside is that they only take cash and I thought it was a bit strange that I had to ask for a recite with a cash payment. read more

UPDATE 8/29/08 I just found out that he lied to me and never replaced roller weights and belt, and never bothered to check the air filter, which was 22 years old and never once changed! How naive and wrong I was. I now know better. 1/8/08 Since I purchased a scooter over two months ago, I have been searching for an honest and comprehensive mechanic that would not cost me an arm and a leg, (bad moto humor?) Located in Reseda (not North Hollywood), Marcelo's fits the bill perfectly. I dropped off my bike on friday and it was ready by monday morning. His rate is below that charged by factory service techs but his skill is no less than stellar. Where a factory service tech saw that I needed new brakes and motor mounts, Marcelo changed the oil, installed a new spark plug, and tuned and adjusted just about everything on my scoot and now it rides like brand new. The hardest part about choosing Marcelo's is the distance to his shop, but there's multiple bus stops within a 1/4 mile of him, taking you anywhere in L.A. CASH ONLY! read more

I have brought several bikes here ('86 ZX1000 Ninja, '85 GPz 750) as well as the same scooter that I sold to the gentleman below. I spoke with Marcelo about this, and he showed me the old parts - so, I have to say something doesn't smell right with Alex's review. No shop is perfect, or gets everything right the first time. But if you don't mind paying cash, he is reasonably priced (less than a dealer for sure), and is very up front. I am happy with the service I received there. note: I email Alex a week ago to ask him about his experience, since I was the the one who referred him to Marcelo - he didn't reply. Bottom line - if you need your bike serviced, especially an older 70's or 80's bike, and don't want to pay dealer prices, this is a great place to go. read more

This guy Marcelo is bad bad bad for business. He is very selfish person Only care about money. Please do not do business with him cause he's very shady. He's bad communicator and he say something then later on he change his mind. First he said he's going to fix my bike then he keep it for one week and when he realize he could not fix it. Then he told me oh I am very busy now so I can't fix your bike at the moment and want me to pay him and get my bike out of his shoppe ASAP. He left my bike outside his shoppe in the rain and left the keys with his friend next door. I really don't know how people make money like this by treating customers like shit. He is out of business, and there is a reason. He cut corners an cheated customers reusing parts from other bikes, but charged the customer for a new part among other things. He helped me buy a bike, which had a pair of Cobra after- market pipes, but the sellers gave me the stock pipes. I gave them to Marcelo to store for me, and when I went back to get them a month later, he told me he sold them. Balls. Good riddance. Turns out he was untrustworthy. I started doing business with Marcelo back in the early 1980's when his shop was located on Magnolia Blvd in North Hollywood, I have relied on him for service and purchased more than one used bike from him over the years. I have only had a few problems over the years, and he has always taken care of the problem and is a business owner with both integrity and character. He is always friendly to all of his customers, and for the naysayers who are trying to give him a bad rap here on Yelp, I can only say nobody can make all of the people happy all of the time, but Marcelo works very hard and would not remain in business as long as he has if he was not honest and hard working. I like this place. My bf got his old non running honda tuned up here so I can start learning to ride. Marcelo's was not only able to get the bike running like new but the price was reasonable and customer service was good too. Oh and the best part about this place is that it is right next door to Las Fuentes!! We came back again to get brakes changed for our Ninja a couple weeks later. I am not one to write to many reviews unless some one dose an exceptional job or a exceptionally bad job. this place was the latter. Ive only been ripped off that blatantly maybe two other times in my life. I called to see if they were busy and had time to check the water bump . I told them it was leaking and I wonted to know if they needed to replace or rebuild it and also the price for each. This Guys name is Tom After just an hour they called me to pick it up, That was quick! ( Yeah the water pump is leaking) I know that, what dose it need a rebuild or a new pump? ( I dont know I didn't open it up) I thought you were opening up and going to tell me what needed to be replaced and fix it? (No we are to busy today) I CANT STRESS ENOUGH HOW BUSY THEY WERN"T I told you it was leaking I asked if you could find out what was wrong and fix it. ( O that was a misunderstanding) Then he he told me to pay him any way. and started walking away. Its been a bit since Ive seen a grown man act like that at his place of work. Very friendly... at first. I brought a bike to him for repairs and it was determined that it would be more worth while if he purchased my bike and I bought a different bike from him. When he thought he was going to get money from me for a bike, he was great. He was helpful, friendly, accomodating. Then he flipped a switch. I found he lied about a bike he was trying to sell me and I called him on it. The bike couldn't be found in the DMV records (means it was a track bike and taxes hadn't been paid in years which would have cost me a lot to license it), after doing an AutoCheck report found the bike was a different year then told and the mileage was DRAMATICALLY different by tens of thousands of miles. He then stated he was selling me the bike for its "parts". When I said no, he quickly acted like I was now imposing on him. At this point he refused to do anything helpful. Literally refused! I had to get my old bike towed and he REFUSED to assist us in getting it out of HIS shop, but told us he would charge me $25 if I didn't get it out. When the tow driver showed up, Marcelo refused to allow anyone to bring a dolly in to get the bike. We had to drag it out. He's lucky we didn't get hurt. Marcelo is a con man and a cheat. I took my V star 1100 for starter clutch replacement as he assessed was the problem. He fixed the starter clutch after being stumped as to how to put the bike back together. After waiting another few days for him to look up and ask someone else how to put it all back together I picked it up. Well he managed to put it back together but now the bike is running bad and sounds completely different than it did when I brought it to him. He said he checked it out and found nothing wrong. I now need to bring it to a real mechanic to find out what that idiot did. He tells me he checked it all out and "it runs great" he says. Any knowledgeable mechanic should hear how it sounds and know right away that IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A V STAR 1100! He is just a cheap way to go for simple repairs...not advanced repairs. read more
