Kevin and crew just completed a comprehensive 40K service on my T-120. I rode 140 miles to have him work on my bike and while there reconnected with an old fried who'd come down from Delano to have Kevin complete the break in service on his final addition Thruxton. My bike runs better than new (or after the 20K service by a dealer). Kevin's attention to detail sets him apart. He made sure to keep me informed during the service with pictures and commentary. With Kevin's help, I converted my Scrambler 1200 into a Supermoto because the idea of riding off-road never fully materialized. It is now set up for how I like to ride on the street and feels like a completely different bike. The short answer is that Kevin is an incredible mechanic, and the LA area is so lucky to have him. But let me tell you why, and bear with me because it's long but well-earned. I met Kevin when I shipped my bike out to California from the east coast to do some desert riding. When the bike arrived, the rear axle nut had backed off and was nowhere to be found. Story for another time. This being a Triumph, and that being one of those parts that should never ever get lost, nobody really has them lying around so I figured the trip was a bust. You win some, you lose some. Cue Kevin. I knew of him through Instagram and direct messaged him on a whim at maybe 9 or 10 pm to see if he had any ideas, and not only did he respond immediately but the next day he gave me the shirt off his own back (literally, the axle nut and washer off his own bike), taught me how to put it on, and then waited for me on a Saturday so he could make sure I'd done it right and send me off on the trip he saved. I don't need to tell you how rare and awesome that is, but it's rare and it's f'ing awesome. A lot of people get jaded after however many years of wrenching, but Kevin is tirelessly kind and that deserves heaps of praise in and of itself. So now you know how nice he is. Cat's out of the bag. But I can also attest to his skills as a mechanic, and as a customs shop, because I brought the bike back to him after a few trail drops that left me with a rough idle and some bent bits and pieces. He diagnosed and fixed all of that in less than a day, keeping in constant contact and taking the time to explain everything to me. So, in addition to a heart of gold, I learned that he's got encyclopedic knowledge, a lot of talent, and a willingness to teach, which is beyond the gold standard for any shop. I was so impressed that I decided I wanted him to do every mod I'd been so much as considering, so I can speak to his custom work, too. He's since done a full exhaust system, ECU tune, air filter, license plate relocation, and probably more stuff that I'm forgetting -- I just kept delaying the return shipment and giving him as many tasks as I could think of -- and the scrambler now rips like a champ and looks and sounds absolutely magnificent. I'm *almost* sad to have the bike back because I was learning so much and having such a good time. It's been incredible to be able to run ideas by him, have the bad ideas humbly revised, and see the good ones materialize out of thin air, sometimes in a matter of hours despite a stable full of work. Even though I live in NV, it was the best decision to take my bike to kevin in LA. He accommodated my traveling so I would have my bike back the very next morning. He is honest and tells you like it is. Kevin kept me informed throughout his service and even photographed it along the way (pictures included here). He actually charged me less than previously quoted for my 12k major service since some things were in good shape that I wouldn't have known the difference otherwise. So glad I have found someone trustworthy in the Valley. Brought my Triumph Scrambler to Kevin because it needed new shocks / front pads, some adjustments. As soon as the shocks arrived I brought the bike in assuming I'll get it the next day ( which is the usual in most shops, gotta understand businesses are busy :). Kevin ended up having my bike ready the same day so I could go on my organized ride the following day! He also followed up with me the next day to hear about the shocks and making sure everything was ok. The best part, is I am a guy who likes to understand things so I probably asked him 15 questions and he answered them all with enthusiasm and passion and that for me shows someone who cares about his work and costumers. Ok, so...I have never owned a motorcycle that I didn't have to kickstart. My daily rider was/is a 1971 Triumph Bonneville. I was fortunate enough to meet a couple amazing mechanics that specialize in vintage Triumph engines early into me owning that bike. They embraced my bike and me as a real rider. Not the guy that just starts his bike up for friends or to just keep the parts moving. As I ride aggressive and up the Angeles Crest, my 1971 carbureted engine just is gasping for air as I hit 4,000 ft. So, I thought, maybe I should by a modern bike. Never thought I would.
