I reviewed Born Free Cycles back in 2018 and have had my Harley's serviced at other garages since I moved out of Burbank. I have other options where I live now, but I will always come back to Born Free Cycles. Alex and Kari Lopez, along with their amazing crew, always takes care of their customers. Harley's are not cheap to service, maintain or customize, but the folks at Born Free Cycles won't rip you off. In my opinion they are the best independent Harley Davidson service garages. This is based on years of experience with them vs. dealerships and other independent shops. When people ask me for a recommended Harley garage, or they have just had another bad experience at their dealership or independent, I always refer them to Born Free Cycles. Hands down. read more

Very friendly and knowledgeable service technician, told them my issue,they quoted a price told me no problems, I have a salvage bike I built,told them there's no key fob and no hand controls,was told not an issue they can delete the security system,for 169.00 they do it all the time,I paid to have my bike transported 2.5 hours away cause was told they had the special program needed... When the bike got there they did the same thing my local dealership could do, pull the code,and if I had hand controls, unlock the system,and reprogram a new key fob... and surprise, now we want 507 and change, plus now I have to have hand controls installed...more money...??? I wish I could put a zero here on the reviews all the negative comments before me are 100% correct and the other people's reviews are true because they will destroy your bike once you know the truth and you will have to redo your entire bike. I had my clutch done and both my rockers and brakes done, deal with this place and it costed over $2200. these people are con/artist looking to make 200$ every half/hour and they'll just charge you 189$ which was 169$ an hour. I had to install some shocks on my Harley Sportster, and they did a fantastic job. It is a pretty easy job; I just didn't have the right tools, and I'm a new rider, so I wanted to make sure that the work was done professionally. They did the job requested, and did it very promptly. I was also extremely impressed with how they talked me out of a few other modifications that I really just didn't need. Instead of trying to sell more work, they did what was best for me. My old mechanic is getting ready to retire so I needed a new one. I've known Alex for a long time but have never had him work on my bike before. Took the bike in to have him to replace the stock front springs with legend cartridges and put risers on the front. During the inspection they noticed that my front tire needed to be replaced and my horn wasn't working?? I had them replace the front tire and they fixed the horn while it was there. These guys are great. I've got a 2019 Sportster Iron 1200 and started riding a little over a year ago. I'm still a noob but I know good service when I see it. I wanted to get new pipes, air cleaner, grips and a few other small mods. Alex sat down with me and took the time to go over what I wanted and what the best options were. Dude has a lot of patience for a guy like me who's still learning. He even talked me out of doing some stuff that I really didn't need even though it would made him a few extra bucks. This place is definitely a hidden gem. Alex and his team are beyond amazing and great people to talk to. I had a 10K service done and a few other things and they were super accommodating and really took care of me and my 2020 Softail Slim. They were extremely thorough going over the bike both before and after the service. I really appreciated the entire breakdown of what needed to be done and they were upfront with everything including the costs. I typically like to "try" and do basic maintenance and add extras on my bike so that I can learn how to do some of the basic things on my own, but man.... after riding it back home just now, it feels like a brand new bike again!!! No surprise here but Born Free Cycles hit it out of the park again. This team is extremely passionate about American Iron. Had an oil change and 15,000 mile service performed and my 1999 883 XL has never ran better. Alex and his team address even the smallest of details and will not let a bike leave their shop unless it's perfect. They have a fun old school vibe and I enjoy looking at the bikes they are working on for new ideas. I have been treated poorly at HD dealerships and they have referred to my bike as a "throw away motorcycle". This pissed me off because it is my first bike and I will never sell it short of needing a kidney replacement. Their pricing is also considerably better than "The Motor Company". This place is ZERO stars! DONT TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE GETTING ABUSED BY OWNER ALEX or WIFE CARRIE! Don't believe the yelp reviews or the amount of stars they have. WORST SERVICE EVER!!! My bike sat in this shop for a month. (Outside without any cover, all their bikes are stored outside) Two weeks to do an estimate for the insurance company. This with me calling practically every day to find out status. After completing it, they had to do a supplement because they had missed some very obvious pieces. That took another 10 days. Alex the owner serviced me when I went in personally the second time to check status. I guess he wanted to smooth things over to keep my business. That's when he realized they had missed the risers that were bent plus more. He has a bad attitude, comes off as an Ahole! Don't believe me, go talk to him... Carrie supposedly the shop Mgr 14 years in the business (wife) doesn't return calls. She argued with me over the phone and hung up on my face when I complained with the lack of professionalism and the inadequate estimate, plus the time of length my bike just sat there. It gets worse, she tried to charge me storage fee once she found out I didn't want to leave my bike to have them repair it. My bike sat there almost a month because they can't get their shit together. Then she tried to have me pay for parts $2100. I never authorized to order parts. Their shop policy is you have to give half the cost of parts. I hadn't given them anything, so why would they even order parts! LIES to collect money! After a yelling match with Carrie, I threatened them with a lawsuit and reporting them to the BBB. She backed off, since she was lying about the parts and the storage fee as if I wanted my bike to just sit there...I did pay $300 for the estimate. My bike is a custom chopper with 75% harley parts and 25% Saxon chopper. Their excuse was it's a custom bike hard to find parts and to estimate it. I've owned the bike over 10 years, I have had numerous work done to it. Never had an issue with parts or estimates! Born free cycle is a ripoff! Btw, my buddy took his Harley to have new pipes installed. They charged him $400 labor and couldn't install it. Alex tried selling him a different pipe instead, true story! Guess what, he got it installed at HD of Glendale for $250. DON'T take your bike here! I'm Not just sayin' read more

Initially, I would go from dealership to dealership to have services and other things done to my motorcycle. I noticed that each dealership had a different opinion. Starting from the fact that i sent them a message around 10-11pm and explained my poor situation with the bike, they answered right away, helped with figuring out the best solution and put me in first thing in the morning! I left my bike for changing gaskets of the motor and Hand grips to this shop. They kept my bike for 30 days. I had to call them to finish their work. When they told me to pick my bike , I went to the shop. When I got there ,I noticed they just started to change my hand grips. After I got my bike back , I found some leaks from the gaskets that they fixed. I let them check those leaks but they said " we fixed them perfectly. So I had to take my bike to another shop to fix the those leaks. I wasted my time and money here. They don't have any sense of responsibility or they don't know how to fix motorcycles. read more

Been here once before, referred by mutual friends. I was a dick and never left a review they deserved. But today I have to write a review. 10 stars if you ask me. I picked up my bike from custom paint 2 days ago. As we all know, shit rattles loose on Harley's. Lost a caliper bolt. Unfortunately after Alex the owner, and Daniel went through every fucking bolt in their shop, they didn't have it. At least they gave me the proper thread info so I could at least find one at a local hardware store to get me through a planned ride in the morning. Also helped to order the proper factory caliper bolt kit. So once again I was a dick and didn't even throw them a $20 for the help. But hopefully me having to go through hell to remember a password to login in and give a proper review makes up for that. I definitely recommend this shop. read more

Are used to use Born Free Cycles for everything I just don't usually have the time to work on my Harley so I bring them to work so they can make some money. Just had my new tires put on by them Saturday. got home Saturday I was washing my bike since they didn't wash my bike after installing tires. And I noticed all kinds of rub marks and scratches on both front and rear tires. Mind you my rims were freshly powder coated about 6 to 8 months ago. They literally were doing everything not to meet me in the middle or come up with someway to help me fix this. I don't know what has happened to their customer service and their work on their bikes. But the manager Alex basically tried to blame all these marks that apparently popped up on my rims from dust. And then try to say that they are more educated than me in the motorcycle field which was no argument has no point to what happened to my rims. And got some marks on my exhaust and said they couldn't do anything about it. Just very disappointing especially when you've always been a good customer. read more

I'm gonna start by saying that I'm never going to another shop while this one is still open (Hopefully for a long time). I went there for a 5k service and everything was perfect. My bike is running like clockwork and everything was done in a couple hours. The price was fair and they use only the best products in your bike. Derek is a great guy, with great service skills and tons of knowledge about bikes and everything related. He had no problem teaching me a couple things, and pointing out minor problems in the bike so I could take care of em' without sounding like he was trying to sell more stuff to me (Which has happened to me at every damn shop except this one). I've been a customer since these guys were working out of a small industrial closet in Van Nuys. They pride themselves in doing things right the first time, and more importantly, you don't feel like they're trying to get in your pocket by claiming unnecessary repairs are urgent. That being said, I am upset with Alex (the owner). He waited too long to advise me (or convince me) to upgrade my cams. I picked up my bike yesterday after the upgrade and was EXTREMELY impressed with the power gain. This upgrade coupled with my suspension upgrades has totally changed my riding experience! Shame on you Alex for not trying harder to convince me...ha ha ha! I DONT recommend going anywhere else for service or upgrades.
