If you don't like any gamey flavor in your meat, maybe it's not for you. The jerk chicken was delicious - so flavorful, just like the jerk pork, but I did like the jerk pork a bit more. Callaloo was ok, but more potatoes and bread I find vs veggie. I really just wanted a lot of greens. The flavors were good though. Oxtail was consistent like last time and excellent. Overall, another good meal and we're learning what we like here. The whole atmosphere is fun too.

We tried this restaurant last year and wanted to eat In with our group of 8 this time. So I called…read moreahead to make sure they were open and able to accommodate us at around 7pm with their 9pm closing on a Sunday. The food is cooked fresh so we knew about the wait time and were fine with that (30 minutes for the red snapper -3 pounder!). The owner who was taking our order gave us a sample of the Legumes with beef to try while we decided on the menu items. It was delicious so we ordered that. She also told us which items they still had available (no curried items). In the end, we chose Legumes, Conch, Fried Red Snapper, Fried Pork, and Stewed Goat. These all came with a rice (choice of white, rice &beans or black rice) and 2 fried green plantains. She came with a huge bowl of fresh salad that had mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and apples. The dressings were Caesar and Avocado Ranch. Everyone thought all the food was delicious and left so full -- we packed a bunch of rice, plantains and fish since we couldn't finish and wanted it for another meal. She also gave us extra hot pickled veggies (can't remember the name) for our take home stuff. All this was worth the wait for sure. So happy they're still open and in the area. We ended up finishing our meal after closing, but they didn't seem to mind. Such a lovely couple.

Don't let the ambiance fool you…read more Macaroni Au Gratin is bland with consistency of imitation cheese whiz? I can't put my finger on it but it didn't have a flavor of ANY blend of natural cheeses. I'd know, I'm a cheese connoisseur! Perhaps they use imitation cheese. Simply put, their macaroni au gratin is inauthentic as in no veggies (onions, bell peppers) nor ham or ground beef used either. At least the Diri Djon Djon and Lalo was decent. I've had better Salad Russe. It was either missing onions or salt. The condiment cup of Pikliz is shorter and smaller than the usual 1.5 oz. Most restaurants provide sizes 2 oz and larger and that's how I was able to tell the difference. I never even knew those solo dipping cups came any smaller! Probably so you can ask for more so they can charge extra. Not only do they make sure to cut corners on the Pikliz. Which wasn't even enough to mask their thick, brown, over-fried, DRY and STALE bannann peze that has been sitting out. After they cut the plantains they don't soak in salted water. Bannann peze SHOULD NOT be so thick, should be made-to-order and served hot, fresh, golden and crispy. Just look at their photos and see for yourselves compared to other bannann peze / tostones you've eaten / seen. Then to ask if I need utensils for a to-go order? No ma'am, I'll be using my fingers and eating out of my hands today, thanks for asking. Don't ask, just automatically include utensils in the bag for the astronomic amount you charge for your food. Chain restaurants or even mom & pops all simply include utensils and napkins when preparing to-go orders. Only time to get away with that is when delivering. At which most times customer may decline since they're home / work and may already have those items. Price point - garbage for side of macaroni au gratin I'll let you all be surprised for yourselves on the rest on menu. * If anyone gave this restaurant 5 stars... they're obviously not Haitian and/or their tastebuds are shot.

However, this is a hidden gem you should try. It appears to be a family owned restaurant. Decor is light and seating is sparse, so if you plan to bring a party of 4 or more I'd definitely suggest calling ahead to potentially make a reservation. We also came on an extremely hot day and sadly their A/C system wasn't working so it was on the warmer side. Not unbearable but a bit uncomfortable, so just keep that in mind if that's the case when you show up. What I will say when it comes to the experience and food is that it doesn't get more authentic than this. I asked for a recommendation and was told to order the griot, which was well seasoned and quite large portion size wise. The plate came with a rice of choice, two fried plantain, beans, pikliz and dipping sauce for the meat. Not bad for $20. I ordered to go because I had an event to go to, but can attest that they do a great job of plating their dishes when you dine in. If I'm ever in NYC again I wouldn't mind returning, dining in and hopefully trying something different like their Kalalou or legume which looks incredible.
