I'll start by saying that it's absolutely beautiful restaurant and of all places Dickinson but it is lovely the different levels and the lighting in the chandeliers throughout the restaurant this seating. we started at the bar area and ordered a few appetizers the stuffed jalapenos or just okay they cannot seem like they might have been just Frozen. One of our party members order the million dollar drink which they said it taste like turpentine. Once we were done in the bar area we ask to be seated in the dining room for dinner our server was on point and very attentive. We ordered seafood steaks some more appetizers the beignet appetizer which I didn't like at all I did order a house salad with a raspberry dressing which I didn't like the dressing it was just too tart. I had the ribeye steak with broccolini and the steak was absolutely delicious in our party we ordered the red snapper on the half shell which they said it was delicious. The shrimp grits with scallops not a very pleasant dish the scallops could have been cooked a little bit more and the grits just had a funky texture maybe it's the cheese we wouldn't order that again and the filet mignon with broccolini. What a disappointing New Years Eve celebrating here! My husband and I spent almost $300 for the "VIP" package. What we received ... I received two small appetizers .. One with hard asparagus..our horrible waiter passed up by husband (table of 6). He received nothing. COLD ... I mean COLD lobster bisque and a wedge salad that had NO dressing or feta cheese. I asked for bread ../ who doesn't want bread or crackers with soup or a salad. Our waiter seemed annoyed. I asked for additional dressing..my husband had lamb. Very under seasoned I had a great prime rib but the green beans were so undercooked. The desserts seemed to be from HEB or Kroger's. All in all ... Not what we wanted or excepted. The "party favors" from the dollar store. We wish we could get a refund. Lol. Live and learn. The few times we have eaten here it's been great. But after this . Nope. Happy New Year . read more

The buffet on Sunday was very good! Unfortunately my friends omelet was over cooked, but the bananas foster French toast to the freshly shucked oysters were amazing! I would say that as far as brunch, they have more lunch items rather than breakfast items but you can't beat the price for what they had to offer. Only real downfall was that I had made a reservation weeks ago and my table was not ready. We all waited after our original time and were seated in a area where it was obvious that they scrambled to get us sat in the first place. I had to sit with my back to the buffet table as people walked back and forth behind me. Great food , great atmosphere! The swings at the bar are especially cool! We were there on the crawfish boil day few weeks back and received zero service outside. The whole staff was complaining and extremely unhappy, they were not shy about making that obvious. My date had to walk inside and order our food and drinks every time we needed something. We were told several times a waitress would be with us soon but after about over an hour sitting in the sun and heat with zero service, we sat inside and was taken good care of by the bartender. I absolutely love this restaurant and have come here multiple times, the service is always great. Everything that I've tried has been great from their cocktails, to their dinner, to their brunch. I recently tried their pecan crusted redfish and it was delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the oysters as well! The ambience at Marais is awesome, the inside is very elegant and formal, and the bar has a more fun flair with the swings at the bar, and the outdoor patio is great with nice weather and live music. It's the perfect place for any type of occasional with the versatile dining areas. I'm docking one star because I just recently ate here for the first time since pre-pandemic and I have to say it doesn't seem like they are really taking measures to prevent the spread. Tables are just as close as before and it looked and felt like it was at full capacity. I saw servers pulling their masks down while walking around and other guests were not enforced to wear masks when up from their table. I plan on coming back but will probably wait until after the pandemic to do so again. read more

Boyfriend took me there (he had dined there 2 times prior)Sunday 7:00 pm Oct. 9th. Restaurant not busy. We were seated immediately. Sat there 10-15 minutes before the on duty manager came over and asked us if he could get us a drink. We ordered a drink-took a while to get it-he was talking to the bartender in the bar-he took our appetizer order when he brought the drinks. A food delivery young man brought it to us. Meantime another couple was seated next to us-a tuxedo wearing waiter approached them immediately. We still had no waiter assigned to us. A soft spoken lady came over and asked us if we knew what the specials were-she told us what they were and left the table-still no waiter came to take our order. We never saw the young lady again. We finished the appetizer with the empty dishes piled up on the table-we were there about 30-40 minutes at that time. Our drinks were empty by this time. The couple next to us already had their entrees delivered. We were extremely disappointed so I got up and walked to the bar/kitchen area and asked a bus lady where the manager was-she pointed to the man that took our initial drink order-I asked him in my words "why are we receiving mal service and why did we not have a waiter?" I also pointed out the couple next to us and all around us that had waiters and food on their table. He replied "I'll be right over". There was also a manager-type lady touching all the tables except ours. The manager sent over the waiter that was assigned to the table next to us. We ordered-he was embarrassed and rushed to help us-he never asked us for another drink-probably because of the rushed, unorganized mode he was put in. Not his fault. We finished the meal, my boyfriend paid and we left. I do not know how much the bill was. All I know is that my steak was $54.00. We would have had several more drinks if asked. My boyfriend works out of town and was taking me out for a nice expensive meal before he left town. We were dressed well and in a great mood. We tried to overcome the situation, but it was hard and I felt a waste of his money. I felt bad for him. Tuesday, Oct. 11, I contacted Douglas, the GM and reported the experience-he seemed concerned-said he would address it with the staff that performed that night and was going to follow up on Thursday when they all reported to work again. I told Douglas that I did not think a coupon for a next visit would suffice, but requested that he credit back some of the meal expense to the credit card used and that would determine us going back. Thursday approached and I had no follow up call so I called Douglas back. He had a much different attitude about the incident-said he spoke to the team and re-trained them and there was nothing he could do about it. His tone was firm and mean. He offered a free drink and appetizer coupon. I asked him to apply that to the ticket and reiterated what I had said prior that we would not go back if he did not take effort to correct the experience and we would not go back to use the coupon. He said he could not apply credit to the card because it had already gone to the bank. He then said there was nothing he could do about it and abruptly hung up. We gave Douglas a fair chance to correct the situation as we did the night the experience occured, but no effort has been put forth. My boyfriend knows many people that go there and this experience will be displayed. What a terrible way to treat one couple while all the others were being served as expected. We discussed that we should have just left after the appetizer and one drink. We would have if we knew no effort would be made to correct it especially after I walked up to the kitchen to look for help. I gave the young blond food delivery man a $10 tip and told him he was the only one that helped us prior to the waiter that had to "take over". That waited received a tip for the entire meal, Although, he took care of us, that was a good tip for him to receive on the entire bill. Crab cake was very good, but the accompanying fried green tomatoes were tasteless (probably too green). Redfish on the halfshell was excellent -- the best prepared redfish I've ever had; the underlying etoufee also pretty good. My wife had the wedge salad, and she says the chicken was dry. We also shared the chocolate pecan pie, which was more like a dry cake than a pie (3 out of 4 at the table found it very dry). Service was good, if a bit slow. Enjoyed the atmosphere as well. Overall I'd rate it about a 3.7, rounded to 4. Parking lot was a bit sparse (none of us are fans of valet parking), but I found a spot. read more

I'm an avid Marais fan. It is one of my "this is my home town place to take family and friends" type place. Every time I take everyone out it is for Marais or Kats if we're on this side of town. I work out of state, and fly in every other weekend. When I do I take my family, 5-15 ppl to here on Sunday and Kats on Saturday. I am a 30% minimum tip guy, and have never had anything bad to say, in fact every buisness team building or client lunch I try to take here, due to the nice atmosphere and wonderful food..... until today. My wife daughter and I walked in at aprox 11:45 were seated and given loose silverware not in napkins with styrofoam water cups. Then no one came back...... for 40 minutes...... it was to the point I was trying to wave any waitstaff down, everyone ignored me as if I were a leper. So I called the restaurant on my phone, and asked for a supervisor, and asked him if it were possible for us to order a drink. He comes down to our table gives an apology, and grabbed our two bottles of wine and other assorted drinks, himself as we go to the Brunch buffet. As we are still in Covid they must serve the buffet to you. They had 2 people serving that were just pissed off to be there, these two women were practically throwing food on our plates! They were rude. We stood at the prime rib station for 15 minutes till some dude showed up for it. We sit down to eat and it was the most bland crap I've eaten since a Carnival Cruise buffet I once ate. I have always raved about Marais' fried fish and southern fare, it's LITTERALY my favorite place...... it's was nasty, the shrimp was farm raised nastiness, I'm appalled. So we get ready to part from this joke and we can't get anyone to bring out a our ticket, I had to get up and go get help. A complete waste of our money! We go to leave, and valet has lost our keys, so off they go and leave us standing at the podium with it wide open for 15 minutes, I'll show the picture, there were two Porches, and a Masaratti as well as other high end cars that we could have been gone in. Then this guy comes driving up out of the street with my Cadillac keys in his hand, said someone left them in his car, and he made it 25 mi before he realized it and came back!!! Thank god he was a nice guy! So when the bumbling idiot valet triplets show back up about this time, they don't even apologize. They say nothing in fact even when I asked for a manager, so I just walked away and got my own car. This whole thing was aweful. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, they will loose me and my extended family's 2000$ a month, plus anyone else that will listen I promise you! Keith you ask why such a harsh review, because I've NEVER been treated the way I was today by your staff, and they GAVE MY CADDIE KEYS TO A RANDOM PERSON! WHO LEFT WITH THEM! I've been here 3 times. The last time I was there was strike 3! The first 2 times my food was cold and my veggies were over cooked. Nobody cared. The second time I waited to eat till someone came to check on us, but no one did. The manager told me he couldn't discount the food because I'd eaten most of it. He seemed pretty putout that he had to come talk to me. But the last time really was unbelievable. I ordered the seafood pasta and it was awful. The noodles were over cooked, the seafood had no flavor except for spice and noway was that seafood fresh. It tasted like it came from a TV dinner. To make it worse it was like someone poured a bottle of vegetable oil over it and called it a sauce. Our waitress Brandy was crass and rude. At such a high dollar establishment I would expect to have waitstaff who at least looked like they have some class. But no surprised by the way they act due to leadership. I heard the owner - at least that's how he identified himself - yelling obscenities at a bus boy because he didn't think the bus boy was moving fast enough. If only his waitstaff had moved as fast as the bus boy! What I'm saying is don't waste your time or money on this place. They pretend their a high end restaurant and have high prices to go with it, but they can't back it up with good food or food service. read more

The Sunday Jazz Brunch Buffet was wonderful. Had reservations for 7 but were gracious to add seating when 8th friend showed up. Started with hand made omelet, bacon, and sausage. Then hand carved roast with horseradish sauce and Creole File. Fresh raw oysters and coiled boiled shrimp. Next was cheese and salads. Last bananas foster and chocolates. all served with mimosas and hand made cocktails. Two and 1/2 hours later, we rolled out. Great price, wonderful food and fantastic owners and staff! We love this restaurant, especially for date night. The ambiance and atmosphere is not something you would expect in Dickinson! The steaks are amazing and the brunch is my favorite. I was a little disappointed in the short rib ravioli, however but maybe because I'm not a huge fan of fennel and it was definitely a star ingredient. Nice place for a girls night or date night. One thing I don't understand is why do they serve completely different drinks at the bar inside near the water than the bar in the restaurant side? I would think you would want the "really good" drinks also at the main bar? I asked the bartender to make a margarita like they do on the restaurant side and he looked at me like I was crazy. Apparently he didn't know how to do this and brought me out basically over poured patron and sugar mix. First let me say the place is beautiful and very inviting. The staff was very accommodating to our wants where to sit. Very nice manager and waiter. Now for just ok, they offered bread for our table and it came out as hard as rocks. Ok got some more, ordered a drink asked for no ice came out with lots of ice. fixed that. next was my salmon came out raw yes raw. they took it back and cooked it but had to wait will others finished there food. nothing was mentioned for some kind of credit to help out. while I think I will give this place another try many improvements can be made. read more

2 Marais Experiences reviewed below- My boyfriend took me to Marais last year for my birthday and we had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the service was great and the server we had was friendly and personable. I raved about it to everyone since. However, we went last Sunday for my birthday again and I was so excited to show my friends this amazing restaurant, but the experience was a total let down. We had a party of 10 and the hostess walked us to the table which was situated in a private room behind the bar. This would have been great except for there were 4 other large parties all jam packed in the same room. Let's not forget we are also in the middle of Covid still and yes we want to support restaurants but there was no way tables were 6 feet apart. It was overcrowded and it was so incredibly loud that we couldn't even hear a friend across the table. The restaurant was so full there were no other tables available. The server rushed us when ordering and we constantly ran out of cocktails and water... a server kept bringing the wrong orders to our table and it seemed very disorganized. We asked multiple times if we could order drinks and they would say ok hold on and then get sidetracked doing something else. When we received our food my boyfriend had order the seafood pasta because he loved it the last time we dined here. This time, there were a ton of broken mussel shells all throughout the pasta and he constantly had to spit out his food or pick shells out of his mouth/plate. For a $30 dish I couldn't believe he wasn't able to enjoy it. I asked him to return the dish and maybe have it made without mussels but he knew after the drink situation that it would be forever before they brought a new one so he said forget it... a couple who was with us ordered a steak to share and 6 grilled shrimp to go on top. They never brought the shrimp and the server never came back so they didn't have a chance to mention it. When the meal was over we all got our checks and half of them were wrong. By the time we were able to leave the restaurant we all stood in the parking lot and said hello and chatted for a bit since we couldn't even hear one another in the restaurant. I don't believe anyone will be returning after this experience. If we do I'll be sure to go at an off time so maybe service is better. Definitely a let down considering it was my birthday! read more

This is a location that you don't want to miss, there is ample parking around back. Once you enter from the ramp or stairs there is a beautiful dining area with chandeliers. Several bars separated one to the side of the dining area had swings at the bar. The waiter told us there was another bar below that was more relaxed and had outdoor seating and games with entertainment at certain times. The service was excellent and the waiter suggested items that he liked, tonight I had the Bourbon Street Redfish, it was $28. It was absolutely delicious. The portion was a perfect size and the food was cooked to perfection with an umami taste that I can't get out of my mind. The dirty rice had the perfect spice it was all so good. The bathroom was clean and the restaurant wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear your party at your own table. When we first arrived it was slightly chilly in the restaurant, but our waiter changed that right away. This is a must try! It won't disappoint my husband had the pork chop for $28. and thoroughly enjoyed his dinner also. I'll be going back soon. read more

While this happened to be one of my favorites, I have to take it off the "Go To" places moving forward. As a very frequent customer I have never been disappointed. However, we attempted to make lunch reservations a week prior since we had a larger party of 11, we we told not to worry and be there at 9:30 when they open and they would accommodate us. They didn't. I spoke with someone who claimed to be the manager but I had never seen her before, she was incredibly rude, offered to seat usin the basement, which I didn't know they had, so I am not sure if she was serious or just malicious. Very disappointed as I really did enjoy this place. Ended up going down the street to La Brisa and had an amazing Brunch. As much as I will miss this place, I will not frequent somewhere that chooses to treat loyal customers so despairingly . read more

I had an amazing meal totally recommended by melody, we started with the shrimp and crab tower, it was light a so good, followed by gumbo the roux was dark like it is meant to be so you can tell that the chef is definitely from Louisiana, then the strawberry salad if you don't order anything else order this. Buy if you're lucky enough to get there to try the barbecue you won't be disappointed. The atmosphere is very chic and hip, the swings on the bar, the beautiful decor. It's romantic and modern. My family and I visited for the first time for Easter brunch. We had a wonderful experience! We all tried the sweet potato waffle and it was delicious. It reminded me of a gingerbread waffle. We explored the restaurant afterwards and loved the swing bar. The whole restaurant is gorgeous and definitely has a New Orleans feel. Alan made us some delicious peach bellinis. Where to begin... I guess I'll begin with the one con of the whole visit. It also turned out to be a plus. I called for Saturday hours and was told the wrong hours, so we showed up about an hour early to the restaurant. The best bit was that the owner, Keith, was in the parking lot at the time and was bound and determined to make it right. I've never seen anyone go above and beyond the way he and his staff did for us! He ushered us in an hour early and had his staff custom serve us appetizers while he waited on us himself! The appetizers were amazing (as was most of the rest of the meal). In the meantime, Keith regaled us with stories and the history of Marais and his family. The ambiance of the place is unrivaled (especially for Dickinson - a place I lived for most of my young life). Impeccably decorated - no detail left to chance. From the crystal chandeliers to the bar swings... from the wall art to the wine glasses. The only cautionary tale I have is that I am pescatarian and I ordered the shrimp and grits without looking at the details closely enough. It contained bits of sausage. Definitely get the scallops with this dish - they were well worth it. Kudos to the chef, by the way! I must say that a previous review had raved about the bananas foster, but I found it a bit dry and with very few actual bananas. I would have much preferred the chocolate pecan pie (they hadn't made any yet for the day - we were in too early). Our friend had the creme brulee which had the sugar burned on top, but she ate every bit of the brulee and said it was lovely! Keith, we will definitely be back as often as we can. Saw this gem on Houston Restaurant Week and wanted to try the oysters. They did not disappoint! The service, the LOCATION, the food all spectacular. The decor is dreamy. Inside are master chandeliers and bottle wine walls. All of our food was great, the pasta had giant shrimp and delicious blackened chicken. Drinks were smooth but potent. Come here for a romantic dinner or like we did a laid back Friday night with live music. Its a drive from Katy but it was so worth it. This will be our "special occasions" spot for sure. read more
