Fun Fact- The Falls: A 77-foot-high waterfall on the Passaic River, second only to Niagara Falls in volume east of the Mississippi. The Great Falls of Paterson is even more impressive to see after a major rainstorm. The falls are more immense and you'll get spritzed. LOL... In the winter time, You can see the falls in a frozen state. An absolutely mesmerizing experience. Hope you enjoy the photos from all seasons.

There was floating trash everywhere, a lot of foam on the surface, muddy brown water, and a strong unpleasant smell. Instead of enjoying the scenery, I just wanted to leave. Parking was also difficult, especially during busy hours. I understand this is a historic landmark, but based on my experience, it wasn't worth the drive. The waterfall has potential, but the cleanliness and overall maintenance really need improvement.

An additional perk is how beneficial it is as a workout. Once around is nearly 2 miles. So it's good for a walk, run, or simply a seat near serenity. There's also an option to do paddle boats if you're into that type of activity. The pavilion is there (with seats) to provide some shade if the sun is beaming too brightly. Just an all around wonderful space snuggled between Turtle back zoo and McLoone's Boathouse restaurant. South Mountain reservation hiking trails are nearby as well. What a great central location! There is plenty of parking across the street from the entrance as well as a playground for kids.

I came back shortly after my first review for a picnic so I was able to explore a little more!…read more My boyfriend and I were able to find a parking spot on 48th street which was perfect since there was a path leading down to the park. 48th street is a dead-end with multiple spots which are in front of houses so you may find a spot if you're lucky. My boyfriend and I walked from our spot to a space overlooking the water. On our walk there I saw a cute bike and walking/running paths along the way so I definitely know where I'll be going my next walk! At first, I wasn't sure if we could sit on the grass since I didn't see many people sitting on it around us but once we set everything up park patrol just drove by and that's it. I like how park patrol drives around as it makes me feel safe and secure. As time went on, the park started getting a bit more crowded with adults and children biking, walking, running, skating but nothing too crazy. It was nice to see everyone enjoying the weather! Can't wait to go back to check out the walking paths!

Second visit - more time to explore and continually found new and interesting reasons to enjoy Essex County's seventh-largest park (I totally stole that tidbit from Wikipedia). Third visit - okay, okay - I'm officially smitten! A (small-ish) pond complete with locals fishing? Tennis and pickleball courts? Horseshoe pits? Bocce court? Paved trails (both in the main/open portion of the park as well as tucked-away under dense forest)? Baseball field (as a bonus - a group of kids always practicing cricket off to the side)? A tiny little spot consisting of parallel bars and (uneven) pull-up bars - for aspiring gymnasts or American Ninja contestants? An aqueduct (complete with a handful of little bridges to cross over) running throughout the entire park? A damn fine playground (with interesting and in-good-shape equipment) for kids (from 2 to 12 years old)? Plenty of tables (old-school picnic style as well as more modern/sleek)? Those clunky-but-sturdy BBQ grills that are drilled into the ground for you to use but can't take home with you? Rock cairns to find and admire while walking through along the tree-covered trail? A few strategically-placed water fountains to rehydrate and cool down? Plenty of Porta-Potties and trash receptacles (including freebie baggies so you can scoop up your pet's droppings)? A random deer (or doe) sighting in or near the park every single time I've visited? Yes! A resounding "yes!" to all of it.

The festive lighting around the park adds a beautiful , feels like festive season, right! They usually have a carol section, but the Meet with Santa event is clearly the most popular--especially with families. The kids' train ride is another big hit and adds to the holiday excitement... There are also a couple of statues and memorials in the park, dedicated to history and local heritage, Overall, it's a great spot to relax, walk around, and soak in the holiday spirit--perfect for families, kids, or even a casual stroll while exploring downtown.

During the Revolutionary War, it became a military parade ground--General George Washington even supervised drills from nearby Arnold's Tavern. What makes Morristown Green especially notable is its rarity. While many American cities were originally designed around central squares or commons, only a fraction have preserved them as active public parks. Think of Boston Common, New Haven Green, or Savannah's many squares--each a living remnant of colonial planning. But in New Jersey, only Morristown and Newark still retain their original greens in recognizable form. After stopping to visit Morris Frank and Buddy, we walked this square and enjoyed the pleasant space, the many statues and monuments and then a bench. And then back to the Sprinter for more driving.
