"Van Gogh's Ear", a public art sculpture by Elmgreen & Dragset, is in place at 30 Rockefeller…read morePlaza, right across the street from the entrance to Sak's 5th Ave. The sculpture, by the same duo that brought us the Prada Marfa Store in the middle of the Texas desert, is a tribute to the ready-made style of Marcel Duchamp. The sculpture is a 30 foot tall swimming pool, taken out of its normal context and displayed in its side with a diving board built in at the top. One of my favorite elements are the working lights on the inside left and right of the pool sculpture. Being that it's out of context - a recreational object in the middle of a commercial center - it creates a sense of longing and desire for recreation over industry and gives you an off-kilter feeling (why am I going to work when I could be swimming!). Overall a great piece of colorful public art at placed I a great spot for the perfect season. The piece is on display from April 13th though June 3rd, 2016. Catch it while you can!

The Oculus is a beautiful representation of the New York spirit. It is a shopping center, an…read morearchitectural landmark, a transport hub, and a historic piece honoring NYC. It's a part of New York as much as Grand Terminal or Penn Station is. Oculus gets busy on a daily basis because of all the things I mentioned above. The shops in the Oculus are nice and tend to be on the higher end of a price range. You have a variety of selections from Apple Store to luxury brands. The service at any store is pretty representative of what the Oculus aspires to be; excellence. It's beautiful and bright and at its core, a beacon of hope.

I usually pass through when I am heading to Eataly or taking the Path, and I always end up stopping for something. I love the yogurt place there and the Häagen Dazs is another favorite. Yesterday I went with my niece and we had such a nice time. We walked around, got ice cream, and did a little window shopping. It was simple and fun, the kind of visit that feels relaxed and unplanned. The whole space is bright, open, and clean, and there are so many stores that you can always find something to look at. It is one of those places where you can grab a treat, pick up something you need, or just stroll for a bit. I never get tired of going through here.

There is always something to do year round. In the winter months, most people decide to venture to the aquatic center/skate rink or the Al Oeter Rec center. There is also a museum inside this park that showcases Queens art. Whether it's for a morning stroll or a picnic, this park has the space for anyone and everyone.

What's up, Merrick Mountain?! Former dump turned into a beautiful light hike by the water. Take in…read morethe scenery, the trails and the goat poo, while enjoying a little bit of suburban park reclamation! If you go up and down the long way, you can get a nice 3.5 miles in on this baby with some hills. Throw in a weighted vest, and you're getting yourself a solid light workout. There are already so many reviews, so just some notes: 1) Make your way around the current dump (also a Nassau County gem, seriously) and drive slowly. 2) Parking is tricky at certain times of the day and on weekends. Make sure to come before 9:30 on beautiful days, or else you'll be parking far, far away. More steps, If you really want them I guess. 3) Wear your sunscreen! Skin cancer is no joke, and it's pretty bright up top with not a lot of coverage if you walk around to the lake. 4) Beware...No lights in the bathroom and really not the best place to use the loo. There however is a shopping center close by... 5) Look out of all sorts of critters from birds to bugs.. including ticks.

Joe made my trip! I had an excellent experience…read more My father was born and raised in the Bronx, but this is my first time in NYC. I am very interested in my father's upbringing, and wanted to see his neighborhood, as well as important personal landmarks. Several people- including other local tour guides, told me this neighborhood was too dangerous and I should do something else with my time. Joe met me at my hotel, and we took the subway together to the old neighborhood. Not only did Joe make me feel safe, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and prepared. He brought pictures of special landmarks, like my father's apartment building (which no longer exists) and my father's favorite candy shop, which has been a bodega for decades. He was also able to tell me a great deal about the history of the neighborhood. I strongly recommend Joe to anyone looking for a tour guide.

He met us at our hotel promptly the next afternoon, took us on the subway and chatted with us the whole time. Joe is very personable. We arrived in Harlem in 15 -20 mins later and began our tour the minute we exited the station. We were stopped a few times, because Joe is well-known in Harlem, being a native. Folks love him, and we understand why. He is a genuinely nice guy who loves his city and is proud of his and its culture. Joe's knowledge of the city and it's history made for an informative experience. If we had more time in NYC, we certainly would have booked him again for another tour in a different part of the city. Do yourself a favor and book a tour with Joe!

The Queens Museum was a delightful surprise! We were just going to visit to kill time between…read morelanding at LaGuardia (another delightful surprise!) and our check in time in Midtown Manhattan, but it ended up being a highlight of our trip. The Queens Museum is in the same park that the World's Fair was held in both 1939 and 1964. The park is fantastic and it's fun to take photos in front of the Unisphere. The entry fee for the museum is optional but I paid the suggested $8 per head and thought it was worth it - the museum does not have a lot of exhibits but what is there is super interesting! The main attraction is the giant Panorama of the City of New York. It's a continually updated map of the city with buildings and even tiny scale model airplanes taking off and landing. The lights in the room brighten and dim to simulate day and night, and during nighttime, the lights in the buildings come on. Only Far Rockaway was left off the map due to space considerations. I am a map geek, so this was heaven for me! They also have a room with memorabilia from both World's Fairs, and map of the 1964 World's Fair that is similar to, but smaller than, the Panorama. There is a great exhibition on Tiffany glass lamps. Not only was the display of lamps absolutely gorgeous, the information about the history of the glassworks in Queens (a factoid I was not aware of!) and the process for making the glass was fascinating. Less interesting to me, but fascinating to Larry, was the relief map of the NYC water supply system. The Queens Museum is absolutely a great stop if you are in the area!

Definitely a fun and different place to see a show, overall good experience. And it's on a nice strip of gorgeous restaurants/bars for any pre or post festivities! Check it out, see what's playing. Port Washington itself is absolutely stunning so it's worth it with that alone. Go early and check out the area.
