There is a paved path so you can run, walk or bike ride without the fear of dealing with traffic. When traveling West to East, there's a decline and we always feel the incline when traveling back from a 3-4 mile run. This is a nice start to a long run because it leads eastward to the northbound trail that runs along the I-95, the trails that lead to City Island, Pelham Bay Park and Orchard Beach and the Northbound trail that heads along Shore Road to New Rochelle. There are a number of paths to take that will give you elevation, varying terrain and interesting views. Making the transition from the parkway to the biking/running trails can be a bit dangerous when traversing the roads. Drivers tend to speed down and don't really yield to pedestrians; they are pretty aggressive in this area. You only have about three before you have a continuous path but you must stay vigilant and be aware of your surroundings.

It was befitting for me to visit in the month of April for National Poetry Month as I am also a poet. This white marble monument with reliefs reminisce of my previous visit to Paris, France which has a very European attribute. There are minimal public benches for resting. There is a rock formation embedded in the grass which is possibly man-made. I took a walk exploring the grounds, intaking the fresh air and expelling my stress, anxiety and pain from years of being hurt. Although Joyce Kilmer Park may not be gargantuan in size it does provide a moment of peace in a phlegmatic disposition. I never notice a park adjacent to Bronx Civil Court before and it contains intriguing sculptures and monuments. I have always appreciated parks and landmarks. The open green public space fends an illusion of an oasis in a urban setting. Nota bene: There are no public restrooms on the premise. Please curb your dog while in this park.

Clearly designed for locals, it was a peaceful neighborhood area where people could sit down on a bench and relax. Amazingly we found one that wasn't wet because the foliage shielded it. There was something very Henry James-like about the environs which were divided into two parts by Second Avenue. On the west side was a central fountain, endless squirrel watching, seasonal floral displays, and a prominent bronze statue of Peter Stuyvesant (Photo 9). Particularly arresting was the intricate mosaic front of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church (Photo 3). RELATED - Exploring NYC?
