    South Point Park

Currently under remodeling where they're working on some of the pathways and the seawall http://www.rioc.ny.gov/522/Southpoint-Park-Shoreline-Restoration-Pr, South Point Park isn't quite at the very southern end of Roosevelt Island. For that, you're looking for FDR Four Freedoms State Park. But that's not to say that this park isn't nice. There are some great views of the East River and the Long Island City Pier along with the western end of the Queens skyline and then the midtown skyline of Manhattan. A passive park that is about seven acres in size, it is full of native flowers and plants, and houses both the Strecker Lab and Smallpox Hospital landmarks. It's a nice space and I enjoyed the time here but it's not the best on Roosevelt Island. There are no vehicles permitted in South Point Park. If you've arrived by car, you might luck out with a metered spot on South Loop Road. There is also a Red Bus stop there. [Review 15676 overall - 269 in New York - 1180 of 2021.]

Very nice green space area located at the southern tip of Roosevelt Island, and close to the FDR Four Freedoms park. This park offers many paths to walk through, benches to sit and enjoy the surroundings, and terrific views of Manhattan. Plenty of trees, flowers, green grass, and working bathrooms here. You'll also find the smallpox hospital ruins and laboratory building here too.

A nice park is at the southern end of Roosevelt Island. Its name makes lots of sense. South Point Park is kind of small but it's not that small though. Quite a few interesting places you can see around the park. There's also the Four Freedoms Park and Renwick Ruin. A lot of good views of Manhattan are here. It has lots of benches along the river. The park is full of hills and trails. It's a good place for riding a bike. The park is located just north of the Franklin Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. In between these is Renwick Ruin, a historic site which looks cool. This used to be a smallpox hospital. On the other side of the island you can see the Queens neighborhood called Long Island City. There's a good view of the Queensboro Bridge, which connects these. It best is accessed by public transportation, and you have many choices. It's a couple miles from the MTA station located on Roosevelt Island. There's also a tram, and you can ride your bike on the many trails.

This parks sits just north of the Franklin D Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park. While the latter was closed in the evening hours when I came here, South Point Park was thankfully not. This park has many trails that twist around, revealing many nice places to sit and relax. There are vista points where one can take in the sights of Manhattan, as well as Long Island. An interesting fact about this place is that the ruins of the Smallpox Memorial Hospital sit here. I heard this place was also once a mental institution. It definitely had an eerie vibe to it. Too bad it was fenced off, apparently because the structure is too unstable to have people wandering inside. To walk or jog, this is a great choice if you find yourself on Roosevelt Island. It is one of many great green spots in the NYC area.

Located on the southern end of Roosevelt island just before you reach Franklin Roosevelt's four freedoms park this is a great New York City hidden gem. It is home to New York's small pox hospital and eventually converted to a nursing school until the 1950s it is a national landmark. Also on the eastern side of the park is the first biological research lab in the nations history. Park has great views of the East river and both the Manhattan and queens skyline.

Surprised about this small park and its simplicity and beauty . We came here today to see the FDR Four Freedoms Park( separate review) and this is like the gateway to the memorial site. There is a gift shop/ guest kiosk (you could make a donation to the park if you feel like it) you'll walk by upon entry to the park. A clean public restroom is across . Water fountains are installed next to it. You might want to fill up yourself or have a bathroom stop before the stroll. Lots of trees, flowers, greeneries and benches are circling around the area. Security cameras are installed on every other post. Historic sites in the ground are kept and fenced eg Smallpox Hospital- the first hospital in US that was built to treat smallpox cases and the Strecher Memorial Laboratory- first center in US that was built to study pathology. There are groups of geese wandering around and very at home in a particular area. Views of LIC and Manhattan are gorgeous. It is open from dawn till 10 PM. A beautiful park , worth to spend time with, sun setting in this place maybe a magnificent sight.

I had no idea this was here. If you have a few hours free and want to venture off Manhattan, take the cable tram from 59th and 2nd Ave to Roosevelt island. Although most of it is residential, if you walk south past all the construction, you will end up at the beautiful South Point Park containing an FDR memorial. It's a serene elevated park with granite, a grassy area with rows of trees, and steps at the very tip offering great skyline views of New York. Right in front of you you will will see two small rocky islands. Love these. If you want to take the F train, you can also get here that way.

Lovely park located on the Southern tip of Roosevelt Island right before the FDR Four Freedoms Park. The views of the Manhattan are great. Their are two historic landmarks located in this park The Small Hospital/Renwick Ruins and the laboratory building. The green spaces through the park are nice. They have plenty of bathrooms and water fountains through where is a plus.

Didnt know about this park at all until I came around Roosevelt island where Cornell tech is. Lots of nice views and not too crowdy. You have to go through this park to get to the four freedoms park. Only stayed for like 5 mins because it was scorching hot but loved every bit of it. Squirrels running around with peanuts and cats enjoying the shade. Definitely coming back to explore every inch!

But Madison Square will always be my favorite. It's kept fairly clean and is a nice size. Mostly for the working professionals and students in the area, it's an awesome spot to eat lunch, with a great food selection in Flat Iron. It's home to the OG Shake Shack, which stands there til this day. There is also an awesome dog park there. This park is great at all times of the year, so don't hesitate to go now.

Besides that, I never paid much mind to the park, especially in light of the fact that it's not in my stomping grounds. Nevertheless, I had just finished brunching nearby and since it was such a gorgeous day out, I decided to take a walk through the park and check it out. MSP is not large - the center of it is a large green space with paths on the perimeter that contain walking paths and benches. In addition to the Shake Shack, there's also a small seating area nearby where you can sit and eat, or just hang out. The park is ideal of people watching, eating your lunch, or just walking around a space that contrasts the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas. Because of the weather, it was a little crowded but still pleasant. Overall, MSP is fine - it's not worth coming to unless you're in the area IMO, but a pleasant spot nonetheless.

We were on our 4th game of 5 on 5 on this slanted, slippery court with double rims as the Midtown skyline looked over us. We had gone 3-0 and already on wobbly legs but wanted one more to really push ourselves to exhaustion and be WHOOPED. A group of 5 17 year olds showed up and I was lowkey like damn I don't wanna play these little kids for our last game but whatever, they got next. We were going back and forth, and to be fair they were actually pretty good but just too frail to give us any problems. At 5'10 174 lbs, I'm a BIG guard. I'm left handed, but shot a right handed floater fading to my right as I'm trying to get better. If you can hit a weak hand floater on the run you will be tough to stop. I bricked it and this little 17 year old kid goes "that's a TERRIBLE shot" looking at me dead in the eyes. Like bro y'all are losing and you suck why you talking? He woke me up and I started actually trying really hard and lowkey busting their ass... but tbh normally I'm not even that good. It was just one of those days where everything was falling. I hit a 3 and yelled out "THAT'S A LAYUP." I drove hard left, euro stepped and hit a tough finish through 2 and yelled "I"M TOO BIG," while flexing. I switched onto little homie and he took a terrible stepback shot after I turned him 3 times and bricked it. I just whispered to him "I don't even gotta say nothing after that one it speaks for itself" which really pissed him off. Then I hit the game winning 3 and did the Dame wave to him as he walked off the court PISSED as hell. I sat down and then he got the courage to say "STOP TALKING SO MUCH" while he put his hand together to mimic me YAPPING. I almost stood up and said "HOW BOUT U GET WIN?" But then I realized I'm a grown ass man and there is absolutely no reason to be jawing at this little kid on a beautiful Friday in New York City. I just kind of laughed at myself and asked what is wrong with me lol. All in all, these runs were kind of weak and this court is in horrendous condition. The court on the westside highway is still my favorite in the city. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
