We waited a full year before writing this review because we wanted to see how our new lawn would look over time. Unfortunately, we are extremely dissatisfied with the quality of the lawn installation and overall workmanship. We paid over $4,200 for a new lawn installation with cultivation, grading, loam, seed, and follow-up overseeding. One year later, the lawn is patchy, uneven, and full of different grass types and dark clumps throughout the yard despite having a brand new irrigation system. Vinny promised the lawn would look amazing by the following year, but that is absolutely not what we got. Our overall ~$50K project included paving, irrigation, and landscaping, and there were problems throughout the process. Luckily, I was working from home because I constantly had to supervise the crew and catch mistakes myself. At one point the crew had the wrong patio layout before installation. Downspouts that were agreed upon were initially not installed. The pavement was also installed incorrectly, causing major water pooling and dangerous ice buildup in winter before they eventually redid it. The irrigation system was another issue. Our contract clearly included Wi-Fi controls, but they were not installed initially and Vinny tried to claim they had been removed from the contract. Before the controls were installed, the irrigation system ran nonstop and resulted in an additional ~$1,800 water bill before we were able to monitor it ourselves. Our experience was that Vinny is a great salesman who will do everything to win your business, but the execution and follow-through did not match what was promised. We regret giving this project to this company and would strongly encourage others to carefully evaluate other options before hiring them. read more

Maple Tree should be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. They are the most disgusting group of people you could ever meet. They hire illegal immigrants and treat them terribly, including but not limited to: hiring undocumented individuals and then paying those people almost nothing, berating them on job sites, and berating customers (not to mention lying about their rates and trying to get away with it). Two of the young men who worked for Maple Tree told me that they didn't have any papers and that this was the only work that they could land. It's not right for a company to treat immigrants this way. This is a dishonest company that blatantly tries to deny any wrongdoing, so it really doesn't matter what they tell you, and there are far better companies to hire out of Wayland. read more

I typically avoid writing negative reviews, but I can't pass this one up.  I would not recommend Maple Tree. This season has been filled with lack of and mis-communication, unclear scope of work, and lack of transparency of costs. When there was a disagreement on scope of work and expectations, I spent time trying to handle the situation with the main office folks, who told me that the owner (Vinny) would reach back out to me to discuss and figure things out. After multiple calls to him and after a long e-mail I had written to address the situation, still no response after 2 weeks. I finally get a call from Vinny once there's payment "missing", when in fact, it was intentional, due to all the discrepancies.  "Are we suppose to call you back every time?" he said. Well, yes, a resounding yes, especially when we're told you will, and if a customer is clearly trying to get a hold of you. In what world is it okay to ignore all of these, and then go ahead and charge the customer extra fees? Vinny and folks at Maple Tree - please do better, your existing clients deserve it. Initial quote and walkthrough was good. Quote with pictures was a nice touch. Job was broken up into a couple days/smaller projects. First one was straightforward and required moving a very large brush pile out of my yard- well done. Next was where it took a turn- First; I had them quote "de-weeding" my entire backyard and putting woodchips (dog play area). The de-weeding was passive at best and I've had to go over the area myself properly after a couple weeks to clean everything up. Then they proceeded to use the lowest quality woodchips you could buy, and charge a substantial premium for them. They weren't wood-chips, it was basically scrap branches they charged me about $100 per yard for (any material yard will sell quality wood chips for about $35-$40). I am in the process of removing ALL of them because it's mainly twigs and large wood pieces that aren't dog friendly. Second; they charged me for a mowing and dethatching that never happened. I was home the entire time and can easily tell neither was done. They insisted it was (pretty easy to identify that these weren't done) and finally acknowledged it might not have been and had a "tiny" amount off the invoice for this service. All in all, I could have done a better job myself while using better materials. And now that I'm redoing the main piece, it was pretty much a waste. read more

Vinny responded very quickly to my quote request and came out to provide an estimate. After some discussion on the best time to aerate for the area, he came out and aerated the front yard. Unfortunately my gate wasn't large enough for the machine to fit through so he offered to come back with a smaller machine 2 days later. Unfortunately I had to put down seed the day before Vinny came back, so he generously offered to put down the seed at the same time. Wow ! Was not upfront about pricing. Also his guys rush mowing so much your lawn will have skid marks from the mowers turning too fast. Vinny is very personable so don't be fooled. Vinny has been a pleasure to work with. He is knowledgeable, courteous and professional, and has a hard-working team behind him. He plowed and shoveled our driveways and walkways last winter, and so when the time came to do "Covid renovations," we asked him to bid on a host of landscape projects, as well as to take over lawn maintenance (which had not been going so well with our prior service). Although our lawn will need another season to get back to health, it already looks much better. He built a back patio and walkway, with fieldstone walls, which look beautiful. He also did the site work for a generator install, which required trenching across our paved driveway and a fair bit of hand digging. We have used Maple Tree Landscape for the second time this year. Vinny came to our home to provide an estimate within two day of contacting him and scheduled our job in less than a week after we accepted his estimate. Vinny is knowledgeable, reasonably priced, responsive and great to communicate with about our needs. His crew provided cleaning and edging of beds, mulching, transfers of some plantings, cutting of small trees, aeration/fertilization/repair/seeding of lawn, installed a rock perimeter around a new brick patio and installed an irrigation system for a problem water flow near the deck. Vinny was willing to add jobs not on our initial list. He and his crew provided excellent work and they cleaned up every day. While my wife and I enjoy gardening and landscaping, it is necessary from time to time to hire a professional to envision how a complete makeover can transform your home; Vinny is that professional. Vinny responded quickly when we requested a quote, and within 24 hours was walking our property with us, responding to our ideas for the makeover we envisioned, and pointing out what his crew could do to reveal the beauty of our mature trees and bushes, and in so doing better integrate all of our plantings into a unified whole. Within a few days after receiving our deposit, Vinny had a large crew on site busy working on his vision. In 11 hours his eight guys had hauled away three enormous truckloads of leaves, pruned branches, and edged sod, completely cleaned our extensive flower beds, de-thatched and aerated our large lawns, laid down 25 cubic feet of mulch, and thoroughly cleaned up after themselves.
