Do not hire this company. They didn't complete their job, and over priced. I was introduced to the manager over seeing my brick walkway. I never saw him again. I made them tear it up and redo it. I have pictures how they laid the brick originally. Also in my contract said they were supposed to put polymeric sand down to hold the bricks in place. I am not sure what these reviews reflect but I had quite a different experience. To start my patio project I called about 7 contractors because lately only so many call you back. My correspondence with Jackie their office support was fantastic comparing against others. She was quick on email and I had an appt booked for an estimate within a week or two as it was spring and the weather was getting nice. Joey showed up, took a video, and I had my estimate in hand in a day. He listened to exactly the look and product I wanted used. It was not an easy cookie cutter patio. Their price was in line with the other 3 estimates I got back for the same project. The project started fast because it was going to be a 4 day job so they fit it into a slot of space they had. Within another week or two they had the crew come excavate my backyard patio area and demo my walkway that was concrete and needing replacement. The excavating team was about 5-6 guys and they worked quick to go deep for the patio. Next day they were installing the paver I chose which was a Unilock Copthorne paver. It had to be hand blended and I wanted a herringbone pattern. The backyard patio was a 90 degree herringbone and the walkway was a 45 degree herringbone. Both came out fantastic. His guys were so good especially the ones they are blending and wet sawing all the edges. They work so well together and their team is really professional. I would highly recommend them for your backyard needs like patios, walkways, bbq, fire pits, hardscaping etc. read more

We decided to work with Joey, because we've had several contractors who looked at the state of our front steps and he was the only one who took time to explain to us the problem, worst case scenario, estimated cost if project goes as smoothly as possible & estimated cost if we hit problems as we demo the front steps. I could tell he was a knowledgeable and honest guy. His crew was amazing. Hector is the man. Pedro also the man. These guys showed up every single day at 7:30am to set up. Worked very meticulously and efficiently. So so impressed at their work. Still waiting on our handrails, but so far very pleased with their work. The only thing is, la macchia is a big company, and with it comes a chain of communication you need to get through, and sometimes it felt kind of difficult to get answers to all my questions. But I guess that is expected when you work with a big company like this. Other than that though, when it comes down to strictly the masonry part of the job, these guys know what they're doing. The guys are great. Joe and his son Joey and team get the job done quickly without fuss. I had a long drive and got multiple quotes over the years. Joe's quote was great so good I had them put pavers down for a walkway. All the guys were polite and helpful a real credit to Joe and son. They accommodated all my requests including burying some 4" pipe for access under the driveway and lifting the two enormous granite slabs at the front and side door. Posted a couple of pictures. Walkway neatly done. Driveway is great. Lived with gravel for 7 years. Now we are no longer the only one on the block without an asphalt driveway. Again thanks guys! It looks a million bucks! Joey Lamacchia came out to look at a drywell that was clogged. He said he could have a crew clear it out. The quote I received was slightly higher than he mentioned but I decided go ahead and sign off on the work. I reached out to the office manager multiple times to get updates on when the work would be scheduled. Received lots of replies that they were checking with the team and project manager and would get back to me...after a few rounds of this I notified Joey that I was no longer interested in having the work done by his company and wanted him to be aware of the challenges I encountered having the work scheduled. We put down a deposit for driveway work and no word from them for 6 weeks. They originally promised us they would complete our job in a week. We called to see what was going on and they scheduled us but then failed to show up. Called to complain and asked for some service recovery but they refused and said they didn't want our job and will just give our deposit back. Also, as first time home owners, we're still learning how to maintain a home so we asked him about a divet in our brick walkway that was causing water to pool. His suggestion was to add a drain for $1800. We spoke with other landscaping companies and they said sinking pavers just need to be resealed every few years and a drain would have been overkill and unnecessary. Joe was trying to up sell me on a product we clearly didn't need. I strive to only leave reviews to rave about a place because I don't like writing reviews to hurt small businesses because people are just trying to make a good honest living. The most unprofessional company that doesn't care about your time. I rarely leave reviews, and in this case i'll actually make an effort and spend time to write this review everywhere i can. I made an appointment to get a quote on landscaping construction and design for a new construction house in Newton, and Jackie sent a meeting invite and email confirmation where my number was mistyped. I replied to that email with a corrected number to make sure this won't become an issue. On a day of my appointment, after waiting for 15min, i called the office. Jackie said that Joe should is already on site. It turned out, Joe was at the wrong address and couldn't call me because he had incorrect number. Sh*t happens- no problem, we rescheduled for 2 days later and laughed how this time she would make sure that Joe has correct phone number and comes to the right address. Two days later i am again calling after waiting for 15min. Jackie seems surprised and says she would check where Joe is and will call back. I NEVER heard back from neither one of them but 1 hr later got an email cancelling my appointment (thx for that). I would never make a deal for what happened on the 1st day, but the 2d time and especially how it was handled is just mind blowing. This is NOT how you do business, shame on you! read more

Full disclosure on this one.... I originally gave Lamacchia Construction a 2 rating based on the actual installation of the asphalt driveway. There was so much collateral damage done by the sub-contractor they used and just an overall sloppy job. Once I posted the review of the work, I immediately heard from Joey. We reviewed the concerns I had with the job, we discussed the issues and he promised immediate action. As a result, I changed the review to a 5. Well, 1 1/2 years later, there are still outstanding issues and the driveway is beginning to show cracks and actually starting to sink in spots. There are also tread marks appearing in the driveway. When it rains, puddles actually form in these areas but Joey has stated that there is nothing wrong with the driveway, so I guess I won't be seeing him anytime soon. This is why I am changing my review. I wouldn't mind but the contract I signed said there was a 7 year guarantee on the work. I guess the guarantee only applies on how Lamacchia sees the work and not the customer. read more

I wouldn't give them any stars if I could. The crew working on my driveway couldn't answer my questions fully and left me uncertain if they were going to use the stone I requested. It wasn't till the late afternoon that Joe the Vice President showed up to take some pictures and leave before I even got a chance to talk with him. I tried to call him but he did not answer my call till after the guys had left. Not to mention the workers have gone to the bathroom on the side of my house multiple times. We had our front door step replaced and new railings put in. It looks so much better now! We had to wait a couple of months for them to start and we were a little worried that it might get too cold for them to do the job. But they came in mid-December and worked hard, well past dark and in the rain one night and they worked on a Saturday too. The railings weren't installed until a few weeks later, but that wasn't a problem. The jackhammering they did to demolish our old steps loosened up a piece of vinyl siding on our house, but we let them know and they had it fixed. The office was easy to deal with too; we got quick, friendly responses by email. No complaints and beautiful work! read more

I can't say enough good about this company. First hired to replace front steps, they did it in December, freezing cold, Guys were fabulous and finished product couldn't be better. They went above and beyond. So naturally when I needed a new driveway called them. They are so prompt (to the minute) and professional. Driveway is PERFECTION. I had a small problem with the drain at the end of the driveway (nothing to do with them nor their problem). But they came out and did what needed to be done to get me back up and running. We used Joe for lawn mowing and snow removal services and it was the most horrible and completely unprofessional experience that I've ever had with a service provider! Outrageously priced, unresponsive, rude and aggressive. My husband and I called Joe this winter to shovel our driveway when we were not living in the house due to a large renovation. He charged us an absurd amount to shovel a small parking pad and front walkway, but we kept using him a few more times because we weren't there to shovel ourselves. Fast-forward to this summer, when we needed our lawn mowed. Joe had quoted us $35 that winter to mow the lawn, and since we were still not living in the house and didn't have time to find other options, we called him. He did not respond to any of our voicemails for over 2 weeks, and during that time our grass continued to grow longer and longer. By the time he finally came out, seemingly out of the blue, he charged us $100 to cut the grass because it had gotten so long during the time that he hadn't responded. We called him to inquire about the high rate and he never called us back. The next time he sent his crew, he charged $40; this time I happened to be at the house and was curious how long it would take them to cut our small lawn. I timed his crew, and it only took them 9 minutes to cut our grass. $40 for 9 minutes??? So after that we called Joe and asked him to take us off his list, as well as emailed him to confirm since he never ever answers the phone or calls you back. The day after asking him to take us off the list, he sends his guys again. So again, we call asking him to take us off the list. Joe then sends my husband the following email: "You have been a complete pain in the ass. Don't ever call me for grass or snow. Ever. Pay the bill. Joe" What?!? We had no idea what we had done to deserve this type of hostility, particularly since we had paid all past bills and already sent him a check for his most recent invoice that had arrived to us just a few days before. My husband replied to the email asking what the problem was, and then Joe actually called him and started SCREAMING PROFANITIES. This was pretty frightening. All in all, STAY AWAY! Joe sounds like a nice guy on his voicemail stating that he has "33 years serving the Newton community" but he is anything but. read more

We used Joe to install an entire new driveway when our renovation was finished. It looked fine when installed, except for a number of spots that looked really course and different than the other smooth parts of the driveway. Then we started to drive on it. We waited the specified amount of time, but even then all of the little stones kept popping out, getting into our garage, making large poc marks in the driveway. It looked terrible. So our builder asked him to come out and talk about what was going on. Joe showed up an hour before the appointment, and before the builder was there. He was offended that we asked him to wait until the builder showed up and we had stuff to do until then anyway. He then proceeded to be very defensive changing his excuse. He first claimed that your not supposed to turn your wheels on a driveway, and that it was our fault. When I pointed out that new parking lots don't have this problem, he changed his answer that maybe it was the mix from the factory, but he had nothing to do with that. He spouted off all his years in the business but never took responsibility for the driveway that was falling apart. He said if we had it sealed, he would split the cost with us. Then in the middle of the conversation with our builder as we were discussing other options, he just said, tell me whether you want to do that, and got in his truck and left. I've never dealt with such an unprofessional with such poor quality work. We got the driveway sealed, but it didn't help, and just keeps getting worse. Soon we'll just have to completely replace our $10K driveway with someone who can do it right. Would never recommend this to anyone. read more
