Bowling lane tables

The Maple Hall is a very unique and fun experience, there is a lot of unique artistic details, like bowling lane tables and the exposed historic buildings brick. The staff was very friendly and helpful, immediately when we started bowling a waitress brought waters. The little efficient things like that make you feel valued as a customer, we didn't have any food so I can't comment on the food. The Maple Hall is a must when in Knoxville.

I loved maple hall when I visited! This bowling alley was classy, unique, and fun. I'd highly recommend going here if you're in the mood to bowl in Knoxville. I went here on a Thursday around 8pm. We had originally wanted to go on a Wednesday but the whole alley was closed for a private event... it wasn't super busy (there were a few empty lanes on either side of us). Our server still checked on us regularly during our time there, which was nice. Drinks prices were pretty reasonable here and it was ~$36 for 2 people.

Maple Hall is a really unique concept that blends bowling with a cool urban restaurant. It's a fusion of sorts. This isn't a typical bowling alley. Set inside a historic building on Gay Street (our main street in downtown Knoxville), Maple Hall retains the old exposed brick and loft-like finish. But, despite the old, its also pretty flashy and modern. They have brand new lanes with fancy touchscreen controls. Also, very clean, mid-century style furnishings and sleek style throughout. Simple put -- It's beautiful inside. I can't think of many bowling alleys where I'd actually consider eating a meal. But, Maple Hall is on that level. They have some very good options on the menu and the servers are as attentive as any restaurant. It's super easy to reserve a lane too. They even text you when it's ready if there's a wait. Aside from the bowling area, Maple Hall has some very nice dining and meeting areas. This would be a great place for a party or event. Overall: Great! Wonderful option for bowling or food. Highly recommended.

I was here a month ago for a yelp! event and really enjoyed it. I've been wanting to come back and finally did. This is such a cool space. The bowling area is awesome -- love the exposed brick, the layout of the lanes, the sofas, etc. The dining and lounge area is cool. The little upstairs bar might just become my favorite little hideaway haunt downtown. It was pushing 10:30pm when we popped in on a Saturday night. We grabbed spots at the end of the bar and settled in. The bartender was super cool, took great care of us. He even gave us a little education about the array of simple syrups that line the bar -- all made in house, by the way. I love it here and thing you will too. Until next time...

Maple Hall is such a fun place - bowling, good food & drinks, friendly staff and great atmosphere! What more could you ask for? Highly recommend Maple Hall.

No creepy basement vibes here. This is one basement that I would love to hunker down in. They've made such a cool atmosphere with soft lighting, modern graphics and furniture, unique food and drinks, friendly/attentive staff, and of course you can get your bowl-on. Since we were on a rare date night and trying to fit in ALL.THE.THINGS. before relieving our babysitter, we only did an hour of bowling. However, we were able to fit in two full games as well as two shorter (5 frame, single-turn) games. That was one thing we both loved...the system allows you to choose from different types of games, if you so desire, with different screen graphics and goals. Neither of us are joining the PBA anytime soon with our under 100 scores (DOH!) but we sure did have a blast. It helps that the staff kept our booze glasses filled. ;-) It was pretty warm down there, so the Frose' was perfect and refreshing. My husband was happy to have his Angel's Envy bourbon available. Great time was had. We can't wait to come back with friends or even our kids. It is the type of place that could be great for dates or family/friend fun.

I seriously love this place! Classy underground bowling alley where adults can grab some drinks and food from the bar and hang out. The service has always been great and the ambience is chill.

Ask the Community - Maple Hall

Is the $20 bowling charge per lane or per player?

It's per player, per hour. There is a premium charge for weekends. We went on a Saturday and it was $20/hour for two players.

Remember the parking enforcement fiasco shortly after opening that generated enough backlash for Kern's to reverse course? Apparently, nothing was learned. Now, on UT football home-game days, vehicles are stopped and given parking passes with an arbitrary four-hour limit. Attendants repeatedly make comments like, "I'd hate for you to get towed." Multiple people in our group have experienced these verbal warnings on multiple occasions. Average college football game: ~ 3 hours, 22 minutes. Hope there is no overtime, because you may get towed before the game is done. Here's the absurdity: We patronize Kern's businesses to the tune of hundreds of dollars, typically multiple times a week. We gather with friends, enjoy food and beverage, and spend hours supporting the establishments inside. We're not abandoning our cars to attend football games. When a friend explained this to a parking attendant, she was told that spending money at Kern's "wasn't good enough." Seriously? Spending money at a FOOD HALL isn't good enough? Yet we were told that paying $35 for parking eliminates the four-hour restriction entirely. So someone paying $35 to park gets more flexibility than customers spending hundreds supporting the actual businesses? What an astonishingly backward approach to hospitality. I completely understand preventing people from using the lot as free stadium parking. But treating paying customers like parking violators, with repeated verbal towing warnings, is ridiculous. And it's not as though Kern's doesn't already have customer-experience problems. Online discussions repeatedly criticize the high prices, poor value compared with other Knoxville establishments, and frustrating parking arrangements. Others describe the patio as resembling an unsupervised daycare, with children running around and soccer balls disrupting people trying to enjoy their food and drinks. These complaints already give people reasons to choose other establishments. You'd think management would appreciate loyal customers willing to overlook these shortcomings and consistently spend money there, rather than introducing additional reasons to leave. Who wants to spend an afternoon enjoying drinks with friends while watching the clock and worrying about being towed? Kern's is replaceable. Knoxville has plenty of places offering better value, easier parking, and a more relaxing experience without the unnecessary aggravation. I genuinely enjoy some of the businesses inside and that's what makes this frustrating. The tenants give people reasons to visit, while the space is average, at best, and management decisions increasingly give people reasons to go elsewhere. Kern's needs to decide whether it wants to be a welcoming food hall or a parking operation that happens to have restaurants attached. Customers have choices. Being treated like an inconvenience while spending money is a compelling reason to exercise them.

The dark, glamorous aesthetic is stunning--perfect for date night or for impressing out-of-town guests. I loved the gold accents, layered textures, and thoughtful lighting. Everything worked together beautifully. We chose to sit at the bar to watch the mixologists work their magic. They were incredibly helpful in guiding us toward drinks that matched our preferences. I absolutely loved my cocktail--even if I can't recall the name--because it delivered the spicy kick they promised. We also ordered several shareable plates, all of which were delicious. We tried the Carnitas Tamales (shredded pork, ancho mole, fresh corn, masa, cilantro, yuzu arbequina oil), the Vegetable Empanadas (house-made pastry, wilted kale, roasted sweet potato, Oaxaca and cotija cheese, black bean purée, and adobo & chile-lime aioli), and a salad. I'd happily order any of them again. I did find myself wishing for a bit more heat, but I've learned that's hard to come by in Tennessee. At least the staff gave us a heads-up that the spice level is toned down. I'm already looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu. The vibe is fantastic--and while they have a nice outdoor space, the interior is so eye-catching I'm not sure I'd want to sit anywhere else.
