The brick building is easy to see as it stands out from all the other more modern-looking buildings in the area. Depending on which way you are coming, you may need to drive to the far end of the parking lot past the bakery to enter the lot. There is a closer entrance but it is angled for the opposite direction and not an easy turn. There are also several one-way lanes in the parking lot so you may need to drive extra to get to an open parking spot. We did find handicapped spaces close to the entrance, but you need to drive to the back of the lot to get onto the one-way lane that goes past them. While these are the closest spots, it is still a bit of a walk to the entrance of the building, although everything is nicely paved and even. Once you get in, the interior is bright and inviting. There are many centralized seating options throughout the interior, mostly high-top tables but a few normal tables arranged in cozy settings. There is a patio in the rear of the building for when the weather is nice. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The center is made up of all the various eating establishments. There is no specific seating for the individual restaurants, so you will order your food from whatever place strikes you fancy and then take the food packaged into To Go containers to a table in one of the many seating areas. Make sure you pick up utensils and napkins from where you ordered your food as there is nothing on the tables. We were there after the lunch rush so it really was not crowded at all. There were small groups of people wandering around as well as several eating a late lunch. We did notice the overhead background music was loud and made conversation difficult. I could imagine during lunch or the in evening the overall sound level would be high as the acoustics do not favor conversation. This is pretty much only a food court. We had heard there were various craft shops as well, but apparently those had all closed. While the food selection is quite varied, addition of something to do other than eating would make this a destination location rather than just a food stop. There is some renovation happening in one end, so perhaps other shops are coming in the future. Still, it is a clean location with great interior space and makes use of a building with a lot of history that was important to the area. read more

Third visit here, and I've tried new places each time, and come away with a good meal at a not-so-high price. Lots of variety; tonight our party had Ghanian, Indian, Cuban, Italian (pizza, mainly for kids), and middle Eastern. I finally tried the Ghanian, had the peanut butter soup. I've had versions before from African friends, and this did seem a bit watery but what do I know about "authentic" in this area? I will say, I enjoyed trying the fufu (a root-based veggie paste, I gather) but I think if I had it again I'd get rice, just because rice mixed in with the soup well. But I'm glad I tried this and wish the folks well. Indian was quite good, pizza was fine (but simple, since it was for the kids), and I was very happy to run over to the middle Eastern place and get just a smattering of appetizer-type stuff for just a few dollars (I got some stuffed grape leaves and olives; you pay by the weight so it was just a few dollars, well spent). Had a beer at the bar (full bar service). We all enjoyed a great ice cream at Ivy's as well (some really unordinary selections there). I wish I lived closer! read more

Kerns Food Hall has a great variety of quick service restaurants, full sit down restaurants, and niche shops (primarily artsy boutiques). It's a nice repurposing of an old bakery warehouse. They left a lot of the old industrial elements and superimposed an element of urban charm. You'll also find a unique outdoor seating area with a jumbo screen and lawn area. If you come, you'll find cuisine ranging from Korean, Ghanaian, Egyptian, to simple American foods and ice cream. Highly recommended as a foodie destination. read more

Plus at least two bars. And ice cream. And a florist. Huge parking lot and I love that there are Level 1 chargers available on the light poles which meant I could top off the Sprinter van while I hung out. SO EXCITED about this new (long-awaited) spot! No need to compare this to Marble City Market, as this is a much different feel inside and contains and abundance of vendors beyond food/drink. There is a ton of parking and you can either enter the market or walk around the side to the outdoor area with tables, a stage, and a bar area. There was a yoga class taking place when we were there on a Sunday-late morning. Families were gathered at tables eating food from inside (and McDonalds for the kids). The vibe inside is warm and unique. A huge space full of local vendors (stationary, clothes, flowers, jewelry, eyelashes, dog treats, etc) and local eateries (Hey Bear boba, Awaken Coffee, Myrtle's Cookies/Donut Theory, Ava food fired pizza, a sushi spot, Ghanaian food, and a Korean DIY bowl place). A few bars open and several other eateries in the works. It kind of adds to the excitement, to know that there is so much more to come. I've had Myrtle's many times and it was great (that Scruffy City cookie. OMG) again. The Honey Bear Latte at Awaken was to die for! I don't normally like sweet coffee but this was amazing with the unique touch of cinnamon. I brought home a pepperoni white pizza from Ava for my husband and I to split. The toppings seemed high quality and so incredibly tasty. It was a bummer that wood-fired meant overly charred on the crust, because it was otherwise wonderful. The crust was black and inedible. I loved how the layout is not a straight line of shops, but all of them tucked away in their own spots. Lots of different seating styles and arrangements (couches, high-tops, booths, low tops) in differing areas of the building. The sound was easily contained and not overwhelming because of the layout. It would be a great spot to co-work or meet up with friends or family. Note that everything is expectedly pricey. I spent $40 on 5 cookies, almost $30 with tax and tip-on one 12" pizza. The food selection is amazing. Think high end food court. Every thing from fresh hand rolled sushi to Ethiopian cuisine. New fabulous Taco spot and my personal favorite Indian dinning made to order. Made our first visit to the food hall on Friday. Very nice and great selection of eateries. Some priced a little on the high side, but pretty good quantity and quality for the cost. Easy to get in and out of the parking lot, and conveniently located for down town activities. We even got surprised by a band setting up and playing while we were eating. This is such a cool concept and what better place than South Knoxville. My review is based mostly on the ambience and layout of the place. Very kid-friendly and one stop shop for a fun afternoon. Places I've tried: -Orange Nail Spa: super clean, friendly staff and my dip nails still haven't chipped. Will be back here to have Mia help me again. -The Ghana restaurant: huge portion. I got the chicken dinner and the flavor was great but I was struggling to eat it with so many tiny bones in it. -Won Kitchen (Korean): this was fantastic. I was able to try both the Bulgogi chicken and KFC. KFC was the winner. I tried the noodles which were a bit overcooked but love that this is an option. I was also suggested to try both of the sauces since I was being indecisive. The Yum Yum sauce and addition to the Korean teriyaki was fantastic. Maybe next time I will get them to go a little bit lighter on the sauce, but the combination of flavors has been my favorite so far. Oh LaLa (Indian): I ordered my go to chicken marsala and garlic naan. The wait was a little bit longer than everywhere else, but it was flavorful and a nice sized portion. Full disclosure, it's not my favorite in Knoxville and was a bit on the spicy side, but it was good. Hemingways: the fish bocadillo! I love EVERYTHING about this. The yucca fries are perfect and the bread is so delicious. I was between this and the pollo sandwich but I don't think I'll ever try anything else. Was worth the $20 price tag. The outdoor space is key. Great for movies, place for kids to play and dogs to hang out. There are meeting spaces with big comfy chairs scattered throughout. These are great for meet ups since people have many options to choose where they want to eat. Also I love the preserved history. There is a huge vat that they kept in there as well as exposed original brick. This was a GREAT choice to renovate for South Knoxville. read more

We were there around 6 pm to get dinner and hang out. We got food at Ava, Ralph's Burger, Ooh Lala, and Hemingway! Let's just say they are not worth coming back. ooh Lala Indian cuisine , and Ava Pizza , and Ralph's was just mediocre food. But Hemingway Cuban sandwich was the worst! Their food was not edible, the sandwich was so hard and their meat is dry! It's like eating cardboard! And the yucca fries were dry not even hot. PRICE PRICE PRICE $$$$ very expensive date night for non seated food service. We tried 3 different places and sat at the bar to eat with one drink each was $100+ tip total. Now the food was pretty decent and cute atmosphere with plenty of seating. Outdoor space was welcoming although the view of the parking lot and looming apartment buildings were a downside. Parking lot was 90% full on a Wednesday at 530 so that may be an issue for events. Would definitely go again and budget as a snack/appitizer spot with an adult beverage not full meals. They have movie nights and live music on certain days. Upper patio is adults only to get away from the munchkins running amuck on the lower patio. Wouldn't t mind catching some UT games on the patio. Price your visit accordingly and you will enjoy your visit. read more

Really nice food hall. A bar downstairs and a brewery upstairs with outdoor seating. There is an outdoor theater with live music stage. Outdoor food trucks many different options. A lot of parking not an issue. We got doughnuts inside and they were great. They had a sushi , pizza and Mexican style food inside. Stopped in for lunch and was amazed by this new place. Apparently it was built years ago and housed the old Kerns Bakery. Not sure if they plan on including information on this in the market, but after googling Kerns there's a wealth of Knoxville history here. Even some unidentified leftover bakery equipment inside the hall. Great variety of food choices. We had custom sushi rolls that were great. Didn't care for the crab rangoon, which was probably a personal preference. Other diner had the butter chicken from the Indian place, which he enjoyed, with a refreshing mango lhassi. The naan was cooked on site in a special oven and we couldn't stop eating it! Finished the meal with a tasty homemade donuts. Was nice after the meal to walk around and see be greeted by the people running the African food stand. Lovely people who gave us samples of their hot sauce. There is also a very nice card store with unique items that's worth checking out. Kerns Food Hall is a great place to bring out off town guests and a nice locals place. Warning: Don't Waste Your Game Day Experience at Kern Bakery! I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience so no one else makes the same mistake I did. If I could go back in time, I would NEVER step foot in the Kern Bakery on game day. I honestly feel like I was robbed, and here's why: I spent over three hours there, had five drinks and five shots, and walked out completely sober. I wasn't even tipsy. Not one bit. To make matters worse, I was ID'd THREE times by the bartender for the same drink and the same tab. We ordered drinks from both the adults-only section and the grass area, and neither one had alcohol in it. I took five shots back-to-back in the second quarter of the game and still felt nothing. That's not normal. After realizing something was off, I went to my usual bar and asked if I seemed drunk. They all assured me I had definitely been ripped off. I'm not just upset about the $120 we spent (though that's bad enough), but the fact that this place ruined my game day with poor service, blatant dishonesty, and a lack of respect for customers. Unless you have a kid and don't care about getting drunk, do yourself a favor and don't go here. This place is a joke, and I'll be sharing this story on multiple Facebook forums to make sure others know about the awful experience I had. read more

This is a really cool food hall with some great choices inside. The food I've had has all been great. But the parking setup is downright dystopian. There's a license plate reader that scans your license plate when you drive in and it automatically charges your credit card and texts you information. The first two hours are free, so it's not like the rate is bad, but the setup feels incredibly intrusive. I like helpful technology when it's implemented well, but this just feels too "big brother" ish to me. read more

Went to watch football on a beautiful Sunday for the first time at Kerns. The outdoor spot could really benefit from some extra canopies or even umbrellas on the tables to provide more shade. There was a tiny sliver of shade right in front of the screen which quickly disappeared as the day went on. I was also disappointed they only had one channel for NFL games and couldn't watch the game I came to see :( we had some pizza and beers on the lawn but ultimately left earlier than we wanted due to lack of shade and it being so hot. read more
