The sink and mirror was in the bedroom area. There was a small deck off our 2nd floor room. The location was wonderful, right on the baptism river. At night, it was so quiet there that it was so peaceful to sleep with the patio door open. Where this place really shined was the breakfast and Lura the host. The food was absolutely wonderful. Our first day there we had a very tasty smoked salmon scrambled eggs with a cinnamon scone. The second day was a baked custard of sorts with blueberry capote, grapefruit and sausage links. Of course there was plenty of juice and coffee. My guy and I just loved the chocolate chip cookies that were always there for the taking, the endless supply of coffee and the warm and inviting atmosphere of the place. There were several nice couples there at the same time and we all dined together in the common area. It was nice to share our day plans and talk about what we saw and did while we were there. We spent 2 days hiking several parks on the north shore. We can't wait to return and perhaps try out a different room. The only thing I can think to improve upon is that the water pressure in our bathroom needed some help. We loved the 2 person tub but it took FOREVER to fill and showers were pretty low pressure as well. The bed was comfy and the little frig in our room was a nice added feature.

They contacted me on June 21st demanding a nonrefundable 50% deposit, breaking the booking agreement and Hotels.com's cancelation policy that was guaranteed with my booking. At my refusal of giving them the 50% deposit, months after the original booking, and informed them that I was splitting the cost of the room with everyone who was going and at this moment couldn't afford a $470.42 deposit. She immediately canceled my room and then posted it back online at triple the rate that they were going to originally charge. This hotel is a scam now, they got new owners a few weeks ago and are now trying to do everything they can to nickel and dime their customer. If you were loyal I would find another hotel to be loyal to.

The name is a little misleading here... I think. Anyone that's stayed in a 'Resort' might have…read moreexpectations that wouldn't be met here. The 'Motel' part of the name is a little more accurate, in terms of furnishings. For what it is though, Superior Ridge does a good job. They run a clean, relatively inexpensive operation here. The beds were a little too hard for my liking and the TV was tiny in a nostalgic way. Microwaves are available in the hallway. This is a kind of 'bare bones place to sleep, not somewhere you want to really hang out' kind of place. Personally, when I'm paying for a hotel I don't mind splurging a little bit more for a place that's a little plushier. I was surprised at first that they didn't have air-conditioning (though there were both electric baseboard heat and a gas fireplace), but it seems that's pretty standard practice for north shore hotels - at least the two we stayed in on this trip. This won't be a repeat-stay for me, since it's not really what I'm looking for when paying for a place to sleep, but if you're just looking for a place to crash and want to save a couple bucks, this is for you.

This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

It's just so much fun to stay here and bonus- you can watch local wildlife right from your window. Rooms were clean, and the managers offer a plethora of games and movies you can borrow- which is just fun! Be careful not to run in the halls though- it makes noise, and the managers will quell it immediately (which is a good thing, my kids just didn't realize it as I think we were the only ones staying there at the time.)

If you are expecting a spot up north that is cozy and has some charm, then this is the place! Our room was clean, had a queen bed, leather love seat, microwave, and mini fridge. The shower was nice but there is no door, meaning water gets on the bathroom floor and you need to place a towel. The tv reception was also going in and out during our stay. There is a large real fire place, breakfast and dinner spot (breakfast was very good!) free s'mores, games and DVD's and a small pool and hot tub(indoor) We truly enjoyed our stay!

We eat in dinner in the dining room at least once during our stay. This weekend i had the Surf and Turf special which is basically the flat iron steak with added shrimp. It was delicious! One of the best steaks I've ever had, cooked perfectly for me. The broccoli, potatoes, shrimp complimented it perfectly! In the past I've had other specials, the walleye, the garden salad with maple vinaigrette, and all have been wonderful! Staff are friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back for our next visit!

Rooms were comfortable and stocked with all the ameneties you would need along with a small fridge and microwave. The hotel itself had an excellent free breakfast in a really pretty dining area. Extra points in that they included lefse on the menu, which is a must try if you're that far up north. in the lobby they also had a small bar area. We didn't take advantage of that offering but nice to know that it was an option. One of the things that drew us to the spot was there indoor hot tub as well. The hot tub is enormous, and in some photos I saw and had a waterfall like feature. Unfortunately the times we went down it wasn't on and we couldn't figure out how to turn it on, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time In the hot tub. While we were there, one of our fellow travelers was doing a little sauna experience, running out into the lake, jumping in the cold water and then coming back and jumping into the hot tub. It's a bit of a walk through the hotel and down to the beach but fun to try if you're up for it! Location is perfect as there are lots of shops, viewpoints, restaurants, etc that are all easily walkable. This is definitely our hotel of choice when returning to Grand Marais!

We had a third level room and a balcony to sit outside, absolutely breathtaking. I really like that the shower and toilet are in an enclosed space with a large vanity/sink outside so people can shower in quick rounds and not hog the entire bathroom. This hotel has some pet-friendly rooms ($25/one dog, $40/2 dogs) on the second(main) level, which is great if you want your pups to join you. Overall lovely experience, and I will be back!
