I would say Maple Block is one of the best BBQ options in LA. As many reviews mention LA is not a traditional BBQ city so many love to point out their favorite BBQ restaurant in other cheaper states, but that is not helpful at all in reviewing this particular restaurant. Driving out to Tennessee, North Carolina, or Texas tomorrow is not an option. Inside is fairly large and can host many different sized groups. We were a table of two but sat next to a table of six. Our waiter was very polite and everything that we ordered came out surprisingly fast. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, but we were able to find a metered street spot directly out front so it was really easy for our Saturday dinner. The menu is not very large, but it does have a lot of great combination options on it. For this visit, I chose the two meats and two sides and opted for brisket and tri-tip. Usually brisket is my favorite but this time I think it was the tri-tip because it was extremely flavorful, juicy, and just really hit the spot. We also ordered the cornbread starter and biscuit and both were fantastic. The cornbread is a bit rich so it would be better to share for a group of three or more, but I would definitely recommend the biscuit. Overall, a really solid BBQ option in LA for a fair price. I would recommend to any BBQ fan and will stop in again next time I have the BBQ itch.

The Feast
Leon C.

A friend of mine was visiting and had asked for American BBQ. Aside from small backyard setups, I'd never been to a proper BBQ spot, so I came in with open expectations, safe to say I was pleasantly surprised. We had a group of 8 and collectively decided on "The Feast" as it saved the headache of picking individual cuts. As you can see from the photo, the variety of cuts alone made it a very aesthetic plate, if you weren't hungry before you will be when it hits the table. The chicken and sausage were spot on, well-seasoned with a nice crust. The general consensus on the brisket was a little over-seasoned on the outside while under-seasoned inside, and leaned slightly dry. The spare ribs were solid, not quite fall off the bone tender, but still juicy. The sides were all great, with the cornbread standing out. I usually avoid breads because of the dense, gooey texture while chewing, but this one won me over. The contrast between the crust and soft interior worked beautifully, and the flavor was excellent. The Feast is well worth it if you want a good variety of meats, though we did miss out on the turkey. The service was great, our server was very patient and explained the menu step by step, even recommending certain options based on our preferences. However, they do feel a little understaffed, as she forgot to bring us our plates and silverware, but we could see her running around keeping busy so we could hardly blame her. Nothing against the service but we did had to get up and request certain items (utensils, napkins, menus) after waiting for 5-10 minutes each time out of respect. Perhaps an issue with outside sitting? Overall, a great atmosphere, solid food, and friendly staff. I haven't tried many BBQ spots in LA yet (that will be changing), but this place was busy when we arrived and still busy when we left.

Sliced Brisket Sandwich - Bomb!

We were in the area and I was craving a burger. However all the burger spots were all smash burgers and I wanted something different. Let's try Maple Block Meat Company and get a brisket sandwich. I got the sliced brisket (not on the menu) and my friend got the regular brisket sandwich. Wow. It hit the spot. I feel like the photos I took capture the essence of the sandwich. It is flavorful and satifsying. The cold slaw is not sweet and with a bit of tang. I am normally a burger guy, but this brisket sandwich is making me consider what I really am. I wasn't too hungry so the sides were just a bonus. I didn't even want them, but they came with the sandwich. Instead of fries we tried the potato salad and the mac and cheese. The potato salad is really good. If you like potato salad get this. It's filling and sophisticated (for a potato salad). The mac and cheese I felt like was mostly mornay and less actual cheese. I like my mac and cheese, thick and cheesy. This was more mornay-ey. My friend liked it though. The service was super chill. We came in the middle of the day on a weekend and it was fairly empty. The waitress was cool and down to earth. We opted to sit outside. They actualy have a lot of seating options. Inside, or outside, or super outside. I have only tried their brisket sandwich and it was very good. I'll come back and do a full BBQ review when I try more options.

Maple Block nails it every time. They have a solid barbecue menu but the specials are also standout. We look forward to their monthly Steak and Martini night featuring specialty steaks, sides and martinis. We were there for the most recent Steak and Martini night (usually the second Friday) and this time they had Picanha on the menu, our favorite cut at the churrascaria. It was done to charred medium rare perfection and was so flavorful, it didn't need any of the sauces offered. We also had a Caesar, with whole crispy romaine leaves, with the right balance of Parmesan and dressing. And I started with the smoked wings, meaty wings with the kiss of the grill. We tried the green beans which was new to the menu and wasn't really a hit and we mentioned that, and they took it off the check. We usually choose indoor seating but the patio is a great and pup friendly vibe too. It's just a great spot for families or meeting up with friends. Parking is easy in the lot in the back and also on Sepulveda and Washington. A special shoutout to our favorite server, Bree, who remembers what we order and checks on sides that aren't on the menu and makes them appear. Her service and upbeat attitude also making dining here a favorite.

Foods great, been two years for a work trip. Service is always great, it's a busy bar setting in the evening. We went when it was slow and ate out back and it was awesome. It's become a staple Since our bosses are from over seas. Cornbread is awesome.

Finally got to try Maple Block & their burger was one of the best I've had in a while. It came with a side order of fries which was plenty. I also tried the buttermilk biscuits at the recommendation of my friends & it was also very good with their honey butter. The service was also excellent. Staff are friendly & courteous.

Delicious! The sides and the cocktails were my stars of the show. (Get the pineapple margarita!! And Mac and cheese!) We got the mixed brisket, baby back ribs, beans, mac and cheese, and veggie side of the day. The cornbread and Mac and cheese balls were also to die for. Our server was so kind and attentive. And I love that outdoors is dog friendly! Parking in the back was a HUGE plus as well.

A cute spot that's often bustling, yet the servers always remain friendly & attentive. I've been here several times before & can vouch for the fact that you simply can't order wrong here...everything is yummy! But, I'd never thought to come for brunch before, which is what brought me here today. The menu is small, but varied, & truly had me wishing I had 4 stomachs to be able to try all the dishes that appealed to me! I ended up going with the Hash 2.0 & was certainly not disappointed. The sunny side up egg was cooked perfectly, the pulled pork was juicy & tender, the veggies were sautéed to perfection, & the potatoes were perfectly crispy. I'll certainly be returning to try the other brunch dishes that couldn't fit in my belly today!!!

Birthday Dinner Spare Ribs & Sausage Links w/ Ranch Beans & Mac, and skillet cornbread
Mojo S.

I had been to the Grand Central Market location a few times, but I had never been to this full location. This was definitely a more well-rounded experience. The food? Excellent. I loved the Spare Ribs and Sausage Link here. The only thing I could say is it would've been a bit better if the link had been more spicy or seasoned. The baked beans were amazing and the mac & cheese was thick with flavor. The service was great. They checked on our party just enough and were quick with everything--ordering, bringing the food, refills, &c. I thought the environment and mood was great. It might have been the bourbon talking but I think it's just impossible to have a bad time here. Everything felt like a celebration and the ambience made it seem like all the other customers thought the same. All in all, this was another great bbq joint to add to the list. And another bbq joint to keep in mind if you find yourself in the area.

Came here for lunch with a couple colleagues and had such a great experience! Warm, lit interior with high tops and a nice, full bar, lots of outdoor seating with wooden picnic benches. Our server, Drew, was very welcoming and genuinely took pride in their meats. He recommended The Pitt Master Feast so we could have a taste of everything. The Pitt Master Feast included 1/2 lb of brisket, 1 lb pork spare ribs, 1 sausage, 1/4 lb pulled pork, 2 sides and choice of skillet cornbread or buttermilk biscuits. We opted for the ranch beans, Mac n cheese, and cornbread as our sides. $98 and was plenty for 3 of us. 2 meats and 2 sides cost $35, so the feast was a decent deal. The ranch beans had some chile and burnt ends while the mac n cheese was super creamy. I kind of wished they had some collard greens though. All the meat was delicious, but the brisket and the ribs were outstanding, so tender, flavorful and smoky. I Loved the cornbread with poblanos in it and the honey butter on top was the icing on the cake! I was tempted to try their Bloody Mary, which looks like a meal in itself, but it was during work hours, so I had their refreshing iced tea brewed in house. I'd love to come back on the weekend to enjoy their brunch! Small parking lot in the back and plenty of metered street parking.

Good barbecue place with pretty good off-menu mushroom tacos . We came here with a group which explains how a non-meat eater ended up here. From the non-meat sides the cauliflower is a real standout! Small, but excellent draught beer menu. I guess we're in the era of $10 beers (what?') and 12oz "pints"... !!

We visited on a Saturday when the Dodgers were playing in the finals so it was crowded inside. We sat on the patio, which was pretty chilly. We asked few times for the heater to be brought closer or for another to be turned on. It was a bummer we had to wait so long because we were cold. As for the meal, we all enjoyed what we ordered. I had the birria tacos. Very tasty and so was the consommé. I ate it all and the portion was a good size. My son had the 1/2 lb burger and fries. Burger was juicy, though not medium well temp as he requested, and the fries were amazing. The kale salad was a refresher, hearty and plenty to share. Great casual place for dinner! We were visiting from Chicago and would go back while in LA again.

Came here on steak and martini night. Had parts of a smashing 44 oz porterhouse. It was sooooo good. The service was fantastic and so too was the ambiance.

The place itself is very modern and nice. Overall the vibe it basically a Houston's-type place. And service was good. All of the food overall was very good. Nothing really too crazy. To me, the menu is a little... boring. But, I will say everything was tasty. We got the Cajun shrimp salad (which was simple and clean but tasty), a cheese pizza for the kids (which was good!), a brisket French dip (very tasty and a horseradish sauce with a LOT of bite), a vodka pasta (was good but it actually is TOO big a portion to eat by one's self), the Ahi Tuna frites (the tuna was good and served with a nice green sauce), and the grilled cabbage side (with brown butter and some pomegranate molasses--it was actually my favorite thing!). The key distinctive thing about Laurel Grill seems to be that a lot of things get cooked by that fire which really adds a nice smoky touch (like the shrimp and the ahi tuna and the cabbage). My only major complaint would be the fries were just okay. After a minute or two they weren't crispy anymore. As good as everything else was, I thought they would step things up with the fries but they were just average. Anyways, while I overall am not that excited by the menu, it definitely is a great place to go where everybody will be able to find something tasty to eat. And overall, the portions were pretty fair.

Soy Marinade Blue Prawn: My favorite dish of the night. Huge raw blue prawns (head attached) marinaded with soy sauce. Served with barley rice topped with Ssam jang (type of bean paste sauce), and seaweed paper. You wrap all ingredients in the seaweed paper to make a hand roll. Soooooo delicious. Can't walk out without trying this. 3. Beef short ribs: good but nothing unique in its flavoring . Beef steak(medium rare and super tender) that's lightly marinaded/glazed (so not overly sweet) with kbbq/short rib sauce. This is one of their fan favorites so I suggest you try it.. 4. Chilled Acorn Noodles: chewy cOLD noodles made with acorn (just like the acorn jelly side dish we eat). The noodles are seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu-jang (Gochujang paste), crispy cucumber slices, loads of dried seaweed flakes, and perilla oil. And you just mix them all together. Sooo good and paired well with the short ribs. Incredible. 5. Bluefin tuna and trout Bibimbop: like a poke bowl but so much better. Rice at the bottom with loads of lettuce strips, bluefin tuna sashimi, radish slices, and cavier. Seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu jang (Gochujang paste with a twist of vinegar). Very good as well. For drinks we tried the shikhye slush (shikhye is a Korean sweet rice drink dessert). They used a slushy shikhye base with warm cinnamon and ginger spices and pisco for a kick. Also tried the Sujinggwa manhattan which is sujunggwa (traditional Korean cinnamon ginger dessert tea served cold) and a single malt. This was fabulous. Overall fantastic experience. Fantastic food, cool ambiance's. And great service. Highly highly recommend this place!

Tables looked available around 5pm though so walk-ins could be possible. Ambiance: Outside was nice and inside looked dimly lit and romantic. We were seated promptly and service was good. Food: Rice slushy had a strangely strong cinnamon-like taste to it that traditional rice punch doesn't have which was so overpowering, it made it difficult to go back for more sips. Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors.

The banana bun had an interesting flavor profile; a mix of sweet-bitterness to it. 3. Sweet Potato Chaat (5/5) One of my favorite dishes here. It is sweet potato chunks mixed with a sauce blend of sweet corn, yogurt, tamarind, mint chutney and pomegranate. Brunch Dosa Rice & Lentil Crepe (4.75/5) Basically think of a crepe, but a super large size one. I just love their crepe - it was crispy yet doughy with a cheesy flavor. The crepe was stuffed with turmeric mashed potatoes. I typically do not like mash potatoes, but when it's served this way, I approve. The dish comes with a side of 3 sauces - sambar (lentil-based vegetable curry that's often seasoned with coriander seeds, cumin, fenugreek, dry red chilies), curry, coconut and tomato chutney. A perfect dish for sharing and for trying out the various flavors of Indian cuisine. 5. Wagyu Beef Keema Kulcha (4.5/5) Minced Wagyu beef that's seasoned well with aromatic spices and onion inside an Indian leavened flat bread. Highly recommend and will be back to try out other dishes!

We went there on a sunday, which was fortunate for us and easy day to find free parking on the street. The interior is beautifully designed, sleek and cozy We ordered one of the popular spinach and mozzarella flatbreads, there are popular paneer and we shared the special dosa platter. Everything was beautifully plated and very generous portions We want to go back for dinner try more of their savory dishes and definitely come back for brunch because they do have both American and Indian options to choose from.. and the French toast looked amazing!
