Baby Blues has been my go-to barbecue spot in LA for years. I have so many great memories here with my daughter, from celebrating her birthday to marking the end of the school year and other special occasions. Yesterday's visit was not quite a five-star experience. I would rate it a 4.5, but I'm rounding up. I have always enjoyed the ambiance here. It's cool and a little quirky, which feels very consistent with the overall vibe of Venice. Also, the service was excellent, as the employees were friendly and attentive. And, as we've come to expect, the food was absolutely delicious. The only issue was that my cornbread, beans, and ribs were all served at room temperature. The mac and cheese was the only item I ordered that was served hot. This was a bit disappointing. Anyone can have a slightly off day, so we will definitely be back, and I'm hopeful this issue will be corrected. I still believe the incredible flavor of the food here can't be beat. read more

Baby Blues BBQ is great. It is ever so cute and clean and the service is just the best. We have had it for pick up and dinned there. The service is great, no matter which way you go. They are nice and know their menu well. I personally love all their sides and can make a meal just out of those. Their Hush Puppies and Fried Green Tomatoes are the best. Their Baked Beans are great as are their Cole Slaw, super tasty mac and cheese and you will love their collard greens. Their fried okra is the best and we love their mashed potatoes and pork and beans. You have to have their cornbread and pay the additional 0.50 C for the honey butter. All of their BBQ meats are great. We love their brisket and their tri tip is wonderful. You get corn bread and sides if you order it as a platter. Do that. We hadn't been to Baby Blues BBQ for 11 years! I can't believe it has been that long! We decided to drop in Friday night and I'm glad we did. The staff is so welcoming and nice and the restaurant looks like it did 11 years ago, which in this case is a good thing! We ordered tri tip that was perfectly cooked, and baby back ribs that were tender and fall-off -the-bone. We all loved the homemade mac and cheese and the pork and beans as well. The mashed potatoes were okay as was the cornbread. Luckily, we saved room for banana pudding for dessert. The pudding and the key lime pie were both delicious made from scratch treats. I felt welcomed walking in the door. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is bright and clean. I ordered The Butcher's Block. I initially wanted to substitute the brisket because I have had brisket from Bludso's, and I didn't like it. I'm glad I decided not to make any substitutions because the brisket was so good. I enjoyed all of the meats. But, those sides and the cornbread, so damn good. The bbq beans were different than what I'm used to, but in a good way. The mac n cheese, collard greens, and potato salad were also good. One of the tall good looking guys carried my order to the car for me, which I was not expecting. Excellent customer service. Today was a long work day and I happened to be driving down Lincoln. I've passed Baby Blues BBQ plenty of times and always told myself I'd stop one day. Today ended up being that day. I didn't have the luxury of sitting down and ordering a full spread like I normally would at a BBQ spot. Usually I'll get a couple different cuts of meat, but today I just needed something quick for the road. I decided to grab the chopped brisket sandwich, fries, and a drink--and it definitely didn't disappoint. The food came out quick, which was perfect since I was in a hurry. The sandwich had a nice mix of chopped brisket and fresh coleslaw. You can tell the slaw is made in-house. It had just the right amount--enough to add texture and freshness without making the sandwich soggy or sloppy. The brisket itself was tender and full of flavor. I also grabbed some of their spicy BBQ sauce, which had an awesome kick and great flavor. Honestly, I didn't even finish the sauce, which made me feel like I should've ordered another sandwich just to keep going. The gentleman helping me was also great--easygoing, friendly, and made me feel welcome right away. The ribs were decent, but the smoked link, brisket, and pulled pork were all below average and definitely didn't feel worth the price. The mac and cheese was especially disappointing. It tasted off, looked reheated, and the cheese had congealed. The mashed sweet potatoes was below average and the cornbread just tasted weird. Having spent a lot of time in the South and eaten plenty of great barbecue, this just didn't measure up for me. When it was ready, we were not told or called by name when the order was ready for us We had to ask another waiter for any progress upsets on our order. That is when the waiter brought a bag to us saying it was ready. This was a bit frustrating because we don't know when the order was ready. Although a waiter asked us if we had placed a take out order and after saying that we did, it would have been helpful to have a waiter check on our order & let us know that it is being done or will almost be done. I think having us have to check to see if our order was finished, was poor customer satisfaction. Perhaps today was an overly busy day or perhaps someone had called out. Wow wow wow. We just ordered postmates from here and we both can't shut up about it. It was SO GOOD. I've been wanting bbq for a while but I feel like it's hard to find a good spot these days. It was really delicious and in my top five banana puddings in LA (have been to 10 spots as of 2/25/25). Came here for a quick bite on a Friday afternoon. They had just opened not long ago and the place was still empty so we could sit wherever we liked. The staff was super attentive, immediately greeting us, and offering up recommendations Their happy hour menu is crazy, $1 wings is unheard of! We ended up ordering a number of things for the table, I myself got five wings, dry, and an order of fries and it was the perfect amount of food to hold me over until dinner. The wings came out, burning, hot, and Fresh made. I loved the char they achieved on the wings and felt it was perfect without any extra sauces, just some ranch for dipping. I did also try the barbecue sauces. They had on the table and thought they were yummy, tangy and unique. The fries were also pretty good, just the right consistency and amount of salt. Baby Blues is our favorite BBQ joint in LA. Go early in the day so you can get the fall off the bone meat. The cornbread makes me cry every time. I think it reminds me of home. The sides are great and there are plenty to choose from. The service is always fantastic and the place looks amazing after the fire rebuild. Only reason for the 4/5 verses my typical 5/5 is that the meat was not fall off the bone, and dryer than usual, the blues in the cob seemed different. The corn didn't have any flavor and the toppings seemed like they may have been sitting in the corn a while? Typically the Parmesan is fresh and heaping. Today's updated review is going to be a math problem. I don't like math, and I don't like the fact that I'm spending my review doing a math problem, but my love affair with Baby Blues' BBQ'd shrimp has come to an abrupt halt, in large part, because of math. Okay, first, you need to know that I ALWAYS order their BBQ'd shrimp. As always, their shrimp PLATTER comes with SIX plump shrimp for $28.00. While they ARE plump, they are only medium size, so I have also always ordered extra shrimp because 6 just aren't enough, plump or not. However, I noticed that they are NOW charging $3.00 for EACH ADDITIONAL shrimp, and while I may love them... not at $3.00 each. TBH, I don't recall if that's always been the price of additional shrimp, but I'm thinking... NO. Lots of time, a fire shutting down Baby Blues for possibly 2-3 years, and the nation's economy in the toilet, hint at a likely significant price boost to the price per shrimp. So long story short, I didn't want to order additional shrimp by the piece, and I was still trying to navigate my way through the menu, but holding firm with the shrimp platter at $28.00 for the 6 shrimp. I noticed further down the menu, under what's called the "Big Blue" platter, I could get THREE "PORTIONS" of "meat" for $36.00. So I asked one of the owners, can all THREE portions of "meat" be SHRIMP instead? I saw reluctance fill his eyes immediately, but he still said yes. Here's where I did my own math. I made the FATAL ERROR of ASSUMING that the original shrimp platter of SIX pieces was ONE PORTION of shrimp, so I then reasoned that THREE portions would be THREE times the SIX shrimp to equal EIGHTEEN pieces, costing me $36.00. We all agree that 6 x 3 = 18. I'm thinking this is going to be a brilliant idea !! Guess what... THAT math was wrong. What showed up were TEN pieces of shrimp. I looked at my plate, then my husband, and I called over another of the owners. With a friendly smile on his face, I asked, "How many shrimp come with the Big Blue platter, and he very quickly responded, "Nine." Now I'm really confused because I was expecting 18 shrimp, I got 10, but he then said 9. I then responded with my version and said, "But if each PORTION was 6 pieces," and he quickly interrupted to correct me and said, "No, each portion is THREE pieces of shrimp," and that is when my jaw dropped. I quickly re-did the math, and realized that I had been duped. ONE PORTION is ONLY THREE MEASILY medium-sized shrimp, and I don't care if they're plump. So that $28.00 platter I usually get is TWO PORTIONS worth of shrimp since that always comes with 6 pieces??? That's absolute BS. Do those of you reading this see my math issue here? If the menu wasn't explicit, and it wasn't, then the owner should have INITIALLY stated that yes, I could order it, but that I should be made aware it only included 9 pieces of shrimp. It just should have been made extremely clear. I may have smiled back at the owner correcting me, but I can assure you I ate my shrimp with anger, feeling like I was cheated out of EIGHT more pieces of shrimp, and to add insult to injury, they weren't all cooked through. I called him back, and he tried to suggest they "cooled off," but I'm not an idiot. They weren't ever cooked through completely in the first place. Five of the 10 shrimp were like that, but I only returned 4 shrimp for re-grilling, which they ultimately did. For all the times and years I've had their shrimp, I have NEVER before dealt with "cooled off" shrimp, and even if I've taken my time to eat them, which I don't, they're ALL still hot when I eat them. These just never got cooked completely. Be honest about it. As for the rest of the food, I saw that they now have sauteed spinach on their menu, so I got that, along with mac 'n cheese for the the fixins. The sauteed spinach was not good. It wasn't spoiled, but it just wasn't a good flavor. Both my husband and I ordered that, and neither of us liked it. As for the mac 'n cheese, it was okay, but we remembered it was a lot more flavorful in the past. It was creamy, but it wasn't cheesy enough this time. The cornbread was the same, albeit a little dry. I live too far away to have to then deal with unfair shrimp counts, sub-par flavors, price hikes. While we rarely go here, I seriously doubt I'll return. I'm glad they survived their dwelling fire, but I'm not happy with the changes they made... for whatever their reasons. Sorry, Baby Blues. Heard of this place when I worked in playa vista. Took a drive to the beach and ended up here. Had the hush puppies for starters. The honey butter is good. Personally I prefer my cornbread not to be deep fried but with melted honey butter it's good. Also got me the sweet mashed potatoes and collard greens with a half rack baby backs. Good bbq flavor. Decent amount of meat on the bone. Greens and potatoes were good. Didn't like the cornbread. Looked and tasted like a coffee cake. The smoked chicken was good. Liked the coke slaw and the Mac and cheese though when it got cold got a glob of cheese I wasn't happy with but I cut out cheese so don't let that keep you from trying it yourself.
