I lived in a very violent part of the city, so going to a place to escape all that while being able to study, hang out with friends and make new ones was amazing for my youth development. Fast forward to now, and I had move here to Central Valley with my family, after finding out through a Chamber of Commerce flyer we had one right here in Manteca. I went over to meet the staff and learn about what this location had to offer. For a membership price of $60 a year, my kids had access to homework assistance, STEM activities, Taekwondo 2 day of the week, Local Sports such as basketball, soccer and football. You couldn't find a better placed $60 dollars, and I know this as my children spend way more on Robux and Fortnite skins. I had also learned the staff is trained to handle children with ASD and ADHD which is another plus for those parents who aren't certain about putting their children in an unknown setting. They allow a day pass trial before you sign up so if youre curious to see how your kids about it, have them check it out and then talk about it on the car ride home. There are tremendous social benefits to being a member of the Boys and Girls club, and this location's staff is very friendly and welcoming.

There are two playgrounds--one for smaller kids and one for kids 3 and up--with soft ground so if they fall, no scraped knees. It's very kid-friendly and well-designed. They also have pickleball courts and a skate park. The skate park is always full of happy, laughing kids--never seen any issues. Pickleball can get busy, so if you want to play, try going early or in the late afternoon. I've heard the regulars are friendly, so just let them know you want to join and it shouldn't be a problem. There are shaded tables, BBQ areas, and plenty of space to relax while the kids play. People there are always friendly, and we've had nothing but good experiences so far. Highly recommend for families or anyone looking to enjoy some time outdoors!

The staff that puts on the classes are so friendly and helpful and really make sure to give the kids a special time. The table games for the older kids are well kept up and the space is a good size for the events they have. The library is right next to it as well in the same building so that's a plus as well. The park is fun and keeps the kids occupied and it's a great space for parties. I haven't taken the kids to skate park yet so I can't speak on that but it always sounds like people are having a good time.

I worked at Valley CAPS for many years before leaving to pursue another career…read more Valley CAPS is a behavioral Day Program - one of a few in the Central Valley for intellectual disabled adults who want to attend a Day Program with behaviors that other Day Programs are not able accept. There are various facilities- ABLE, PLUS, Senior Center (Manteca) and Modesto and In Home Day Program for those who can not make it into a Day Program. I applied to work there because my friend said I would be a good fit even though I had little experience working with intellectual disabled adults. My first day was an eye opener, even though I was given a tour and was told what to expect during my interview - from assisting Consumers with personal care, assisting them eat their packed meals, teaching them independent living skills and how to assist them in managing their behaviors. With lots of training from management and staff, I was able to succeed. I learned many things , most importantly how to assist Consumer when they have a behaviors so they don't harm themselves or anyone around them. They gave me the tools to succeed and that's what I did and management took notice and was offered a full time position. Yes, there were staff/management issues - I loved my job and pushed through the BS. I heard the old guard is now gone and I hear things are slowly changing for the better for staff and the organization. No more covering tattoos and one can wear shirts with logos/ images. It will take time. At the end of the day, it's all about the amazing Consumers who attend Valley CAPS who teach each other and staff tolerance, forgiveness, empathy, care, love, understanding and being a decent human being. P.S. If you like to sit, not lift a finger except to text on your phone, be ignorant and not learn anything - don't waste your time or Valley CAPS' and DO NOT APPLY.

Valley CAPS is by far one of the worst day programs in Northern California. This company's staff…read moreare some of the most patient and wonderful people who have to deal with horrible management. Executive Director Paul Rengh and Program Director Toni Trauman willfully change rules at their discretion, while not taking repercussions into consideration. Upper, middle and lower management have been known to knowingly and admittedly utilize threats against their staff on a regular basis. Quite often consumers will sit in their own filth because management will refuse to cover an employee for the appropriate amount of time to perform a change/toileting. Upper and Middle management will not usually help in a classroom unless representatives from Valley Mountain Regional Center or the Department of Social Services are on site. Quite often staff members are left alone in classrooms with at times twenty or more clients. The official ratio of staff to consumer is to be 1:3. The staff to consumer ratio is 1:8 or higher. The management claims that the management is included in the ratio but with exception to Area Coordinators it is rare for a member of management to be on the floor. If one were to look at the official staff lists, one would see staff members who are no longer with the company (FRAUD). If you have a family member who is an individual with a developmental disability please don't do them a disservice of sending them to this day program. It is also common practice for the management to schedule staff lunches and breaks within an hour of clocking in which affects the quality of service to the consumers. This entire organization should be investigated along with the Executive Director and the Program Director.
