I dont live in the area any more however, this was a favorite when I did, so I had to go back and have my fix. I love the tacos! The are crisp and perfect. I will say, they are not for everyone, I prefer non spicy items, there are just that. The pizza, I love it fresh or reheated the next day. The place is huge! The service is not so great, or even hood. The wait staff is rather rude but, I don't get to have it any other place, so I just look past it. The prices are good, parking is decent as well. The pizza is so good BUT THE TACO'S are AMAZING! So, we went here for dinner while staying in Sabula Iowa. The pizza was so good and even though they were really busy the service was awesome! Our last day before returning home we wanted shirts for our grand kids and could not find any kids shirt in Savannah. I remembered Manny's had kids t shirts. So we went in and the owner actually waited on us and found kids t shirts for us!! We told her we loved her pizza and she said you tried our tacos right. We said no. SHE WAS LIKE OMG.... YOU MUST TRY THE TACOS!! She gave us free tacos and THEY were AMAZING!! They are deep fried and very different then a normal taco AND SO GOOD! I want to go back just for the TACO'S!! read more

I held off writing this review for quite a bit, to consider myself and the energy I'm responsible for during a transaction. Food service isn't easy and these companies get a lot of leeway with me. On the day of my purchase the food was nearly free (my realtor gave me a coupon), and I picked it up to go. Let me first say that Manny's does not strike me as an eatery conscious of a customer's experience. I ordered my universal favorite: a pepperoni, jalapeño, and pineapple pizza. Unpacking at my new house, the pizza itself looked hilariously bad (I actually laughed out of surprise when I opened the box and saw... it looked like the person who made the pizza did a lot of guessing that literally didn't pan out). The middle of the pizza was almost cheeseless, the edges were hard and burnt, and... it was pizza. Whatever, right? Someone else at the place will make it better. Well... it came with a side. I padded out the order by getting some tacos on the side. I thought that was a neat option--almost like Jack in the Box with side tacos, and (at the time) this felt like a low-bar comparison to prepare me for a potentially messy taco experience. You know what this place calls a side order of "tacos"? It's ground chuck that looks like it's been browned/boiled at home and topped with pre-cut salad from a bag and powdery cheese. Truly, at the moment I saw those two tacos, I knew this place was operating (on that day) with very low standards, more akin to a barely acceptable bar food that resembles the experience of a restaurant (insofar as you enter a boxy, stucco building with an immaculate exterior and on-point branding) but delivers something a teenager would make on Mother's Day. read more

The pizza was very good but they allow smoking in their outdoor dining area. During Covid, people want to sit outside, but should not be subjected to smoking. According to IL law, smokers must be 15 feet from the door (which they were not) and in outdoor dining areas with a roof and floor, smoking is not allowed at all, which they did. We moved inside, quickly ate our pizza and left. On the way out, we heard the bartender talking about our complaints, loudly, to other customers. Manny's Pizza in Savanna seems to be a popular hangout spot in that town. It was pretty busy when we drove by last week on our way through town. If a place is busy, it's usually a sign that it's good food. Not sure why so many people eat here because I thought the food was really subpar at best. The prices are really good. A large specialty pizza was $16.95. My buddy and I split that and his wife got some of the "famous" Manny's tacos. We got a chicken bacon ranch pizza. It sounded good and our server recommended it. It wasn't good. It basically looked like a bunch of toppings sitting on saltine. Thin crust is fine, but this was brittle and almost crunchy. It should be crispy and chewy, but never crunchy like a cracker. The toppings werent good. The rance sauce was nasty, the chicken pieces were gristly and the bacon bits... well, I'm not sure it was even real bacon. I was told the tacos weren't good either. Extremely greasy, dripping with grease. There was enough grease to leave an orange puddle on the plate, which is ridiculous. Good staff, they were friendly enough and our server did their job well, but I thought the meal was underwhelming. If I pay $20 for a pizza and a soda I think it should be quality. This wasn't quality. I don't know much about Savanna, but there must be a better places to eat in that town. If not, I feel bad for anyone that lives there. read more

We decided to grab a pizza and figured Manny's would be as good a place as any... until it arrived and it was ORANGE. There was absolutely nothing on the menu that might have alerted us out-of-towners to this travesty. We were too horrified to question whether using cheddar(?) cheese is a thing out here, but it, combined with the catsupy sauce, made the $16 large pizza that we ordered truly inedible so we just left it with a tip. All three of us did give it an honest try, but we could not get past the flavors. The extremely thin crust was reminiscent of a communion wafer, and it was nicely cut into squares rather than pie slices. I suppose the onions and Canadian bacon were fine. It was a serve yourself joint where you order at a counter and get your own drinks and utensils. It was clean enough and the employees friendly though not terribly attentive. I have been going to the Savanna location since I was little. But recently in the past few years, everytime my wife and I get a pizza, it is very greasy. The grease is very orange and floats on the surface and doesn't make it taste as good. Last time we were there, we got meat and cheese tacos and we asked for extra cheese and their was barely any cheese inside the tacos. The tacos drip grease as well. We have been going to Manny's since the 70's and we LOVE IT!! We used to live in the area and enjoyed meeting friends and family there every week. However, we now live out of state and only get back to Savanna once a year. When we are there for a weekend, we go to Manny's at least 2 or 3 times. All of our friends and family who live out of the area make sure to go to Manny's when they return to town. The tacos are the best you can get EVER! I have tried to replicate them at home, but they're just not quite as good. Sure they're greasy..,...but they are wonderful! And, then there's the pizza.....very thin crust, not too much pizza sauce and the mixture of cheeses and whatever toppings you desire makes Manny's Pizza our all time favorite. It is the only pizza I will eat cold the next day. We always purchase a dozen frozen pizzas to take home. Regarding the service..........you know Manny's has been in business over 50 years....they must be doing something right!! Why would you change what has worked all of these years?? If you want special service, quiet ambiance, white tablecloths you should go elsewhere. I guess I understand some of the negative comments, but to each his own! I walked in at 10:36pm on Friday night and they refused to sell me any food. Sign on the door says they close at 11:00pm. I drove around town looking for a place to eat and was recommended Manny's. Too bad they don't really stay open as late as they say they do. I wont come back or recommend this place to anybody. read more

I told my husband the lore of this pizza, he was skeptical. Boy, was he pleased!! The sauce is the key..also the thin crust, the whole thing is perfection. I dream of this pizza. It's 7 hours away from me, sadly...but it keeps me in touch with my family! We tried the Mexican fare for the first time. It was delicious. I have to represent for my hometown--Savanna, Illinois. (Can I get a "What! What!"?) Anyone reading this review from out-of-town should keep in mind that this review was written by someone from the home team. Tourists may not agree. Manny's Pizza is a Savanna staple. When we were in high school, I remember all the kids on the basketball teams would each consume a large pizza--per person! No celebratory occasion passed without this tasty must-have being served en mass. And no one returns home for a visit without at least one visit to Manny's. (I'm pretty sure they revoke your hometown membership if you don't.) Manny's is super-thin crust, baked atop cornmeal, which sometimes sticks in chunks to the bottom of the crust for even more crunch. I'm telling ya, if you grew up with it, you'd love it, too! I'm not sure how they do it, but the cheese is actually covered in grease when they serve it to you. We would use napkins to soak it up, and then dive in, a slice in each fist. The sauce is totally simple--just tomato, nothing more. This is the kind of pizza that tastes best with just one of two toppings--like mushroom and olive. If you're cruising Savanna for a visit, you have to try the food of the locals. Hey, maybe you'll become addicted, too! read more

The pizza and "Mexican" food at Manny's are true small town creations, bursting with the flavors of the midwest: cheese, grease, and carbohydrates. It's true. The tacos are deep fried, and you'd best not watch the puddle of orange tinged grease as it pools on the paper towel in your taco basket, or you just might start to feel bad. The yellow cheese melts to become one with the beef filling. There is ice-berg lettuce and chopped tomato, and a "salsa" that you squirt on that also tastes mostly of tomato. This is an all-American, Midwestern taco at its best. The pizza comes in many varieties, but as a fellow home-town reviewer said, it's best to keep it simple--one or two toppings, mostly to add the flavors of salty or earthy to the crispy cracker crust, plain tomato sauce, and sheen of greasy cheese. Last time I was there we had three--sausage, green pepper and onion, and that was pushing it, but I hardly consider onion a topping anyway, so we were good. The new space is much larger than the old one, but they still use the painful system of taking names and then wandering around and yelling those names when your food is ready. Do yourself a favor and call ahead no matter what time you're going there. When you're in the mood for the grease, you don't want any extra time to reconsider what you're about to consume. They have other food, I guess, but for me its only the tacos and the pizza. read more

Pizza and mexican - who knew? Nice, newer building with a big bar area and a big restaurant area too. Not much on tap beyond your basics, and the menu said $8-9 for a drink (I wasn't clear if that's per pitcher, but I sure hope so). We had an order of nachos (forgot to supreme it, d'oh!), an order of bacon cheddar fries, a meat lovers, and a sausage pizza. The total bill with tip came to just under $50 which wasn't too bad. The nachos were just chips out of a bag with some vending cheese (expected). The bacon cheddar fries were smothered in cheese and real bacon bits with a not quite ranch / dill side. They were tasty, but considering the cheese probably better for a couple rather than friends. Both pizzas were really really greasy, a little burnt, and nothing to write home about. They did fill the belly, but were just absolutely forgettable. A sauce was included that looked a bit like salsa, but even in hefty amounts couldn't be tasted or felt (heat wise) on the pizza. The bathrooms were clean and nice, and there's a small 3-4 spot lot and street parking in front. I did like that the booths in the bar area comfortably sat 6. They almost squeaked out a 4th star since they were showing MotoGP on the TV, but I'm pretty sure it was a complete accident (leftover channel from college football the day before). I visit Northwest Illinois once ever year or two. My wife and I make one stop - EVERY visit - It is Manny's Pizza. We live in Southern California and NOBODY here offers pizza like Manny's.
