The store is always clean and the beer prices are very competitive. The staff (usually one guy - the owner?) is always cheerful and he gives the correct change!! It is also conveniently located in the same strip mall as Tortorice's Pizza so you can grab some beer to go with your pizza.

A few years back, this same location used to be the White Hen Pantry, which never really impressed me. It sat unoccupied for a while, and only recently did I notice that HP Food & Beverages had set up shop here. It's conveniently located at the very front of the Garrity Square shopping plaza, which has just enough parking for most times of the day. When you walk in, you'll see a good selection of snacks - chips, popcorn, candy, instant foods, cookies, nuts, jerky, meat sticks, and more - in the first aisles. They feature a variety of my favorite snack, Slim Kim Popcorn by local company Highland Pop. They have a sensibly modest selection of grocery items one might expect from a decent convenience store, at reasonable prices. In the back are coolers with a number of sodas, sparkling water, juice, milk, and other refreshing drinks. They even have a slushie machine running in the back. At the counter they also have a selection of phone accessories, mints, gum, and other odds & ends at the checkout counter. Where HP Food & Beverages shines brighter than the other convenience stores in the immediate area is the huge selection of alcoholic beverages. They have a number of popular and less-common canned and bottled beers in the fridges along the back wall, and in bigger cases in the aisles. I'm particularly happy that they have cold 16 fl. oz. tallboy 6-packs of Hamm's, which is one of my favorite American macro lagers. In the middle they have a nice selection of bottled and a few boxed wines. Behind the counter they have an impressive selection of liquor and liqueurs. I noticed several of my favorite whiskey varieties, and at very reasonable prices. I chatted with the guy behind the counter for a little bit, and he recommended several new single malt scotch and a blended whiskey that I might like. He definitely knew his products, suggesting that much of the selection is carefully curated. Between their convenient location, good selection, reasonable prices, and friendly service; HP Food & Beverages is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I'll be sure to stop by more often when I need a quick snack or to pick up some drinks.

STOCK UP This place…read morereminds me of being a kid. When my parents went to stock up for parties or Christmas presents they always went to a store like this. There are not many of these little stand alone small liquor stores anymore. So this place has a sweet spot in my heart and when I'm in the area I try to patronize them. This place always has a ton of parking, so you won't have to worry about searching for a spot. The staff is always friendly and are really fast at getting customers out the door. The owners are even hip and use Belly, as a rewards program. I typically do not see Belly outside of Chicago. I'm sure many Gurnee people are not into Belly but its a good feature. They also sell lottery tickets here. Hopefully I'm lucky tonight. I always try buying my tickets in the burbs cause you never ever hear about anyone from Chicago winning the lottery. That's my plan and I'm sticking to it. So you can't go wrong here between the liquor and the gambling. It's like Vegas without the indoor smoking or airplane ride. So next time your feeling lucky, then come and shop here!

It's kind of funny we were reading the reviews on the store clerk/owner but we didn't have any issues while we were there. Maybe he learned his lesson.
