I stopped to put $20 in my car before heading back to the city, only to discover they preauthorized $175.00 for my purchase. I called Amex and they said they would look into it, but even mor suspicious is when I called the station and was bold a) there was no manager b) the manager was at the store c) it was AMEX that was holding the charge. Obviously what they do is over authorize your card, get the deposits ASAP and then refund the overcharge, after they have used your money for a week. It's been 4 days and still pending so AmEx is going to flag the charge as fraud, which it is. I spoke to a friend that lives nearby and she said they do it all the time and the only way around it is to pay with cash inside or pay for a specific amount of gas. I vote for never going there again as long as I live because there is NOTHING posted about the 800% over-authorization, Mobil does not have any such policy and AMEX says it's a violation of merchant agreements and are investigating this practice. I wouldn't be so mad if it wasn't the only card I had with me and their crazy overcharge flagged fraud prevention (I never charge more than $50 on this card) and then couldn't pick up my dinner. This is a predatory business practice and you would be better off running out of gas and using roadside assistance than this den of thieves. It is not normal, nor legal.

Next, it is employee owned. Everyone inside seems to care about making you a happy customer because they own a stake in it. Lastly, this place is massive! I can't rally explain to you how massive. It is 242,000 square feet of groceries. For scale, that is 15 commercial Boeing 737 jetliners inside or 395 full sized semi trucks or the entire New York City Central Park Zoo! Thankfully, I found North Shore Shell as one of the only places open early on a Sunday in the burbs. Honest, affordable, and the kind man working also told me what was wrong with my breaks for free. Finding an honest mechanic that won't charge unnecessary fees is such a breath of fresh air. Still prompting for an explanation, as I knew that you could purchase and redeem lottery scratch-off tickets, until 2am, he simply screamed that it was closed and to get out.
