Normally, I would choose shipping, but due to the recent heat, I didn't want to risk the chocolates melting in transit. So instead, I checked local store availability and saw that the Wheeling location had 3 boxes in stock. I placed an order for in-store pickup, and my husband picked them up today (7/3/25). It should have been a simple and straightforward transaction, but unfortunately, 2 out of the 3 boxes turned out to be expired. One had an expiration date of 6/30/25, and the other 5/31/25. Only one box had a reasonable expiration date of 10/31/25. For comparison, the box I've been enjoying at home, that was purchased two months ago from a different retailer, does not expire until 1/31/26. Walgreens really needs to implement better quality control regarding expiration dates. Selling expired products, especially food items like chocolates, is unacceptable. And since the Wheeling store only had these 3 boxes at the time of my order, I now have to make a trip to another Walgreens to return or exchange the expired ones.

So much so that I would like action to be taken against this employee. Unfortunately, I did not get his name, but this is not the first time that he has treated my sister and I this way. Immediately when we walked into this store, he practically told us to get out. This employee never acknowledges us. I simply asked if we could purchase IL scratch-off lottery tickets. I was immediately told in a very aggressive tone that lottery is closed. I can use the machine. Trust me, I would have preferred to use the machine, but the ticket I wanted was behind the register. I then asked why scratch-off lottery was closed and he yelled that they close at 9? Still prompting for an explanation, as I knew that you could purchase and redeem lottery scratch-off tickets, until 2am, he simply screamed that it was closed and to get out. Please refer to the link stating specifically the timeframe you can purchase and redeem scratch-off tickets in Illinois. What time do they stop selling scratch off lottery tickets in Illinois? (askinglot.com). At this point I began to videotape because I was that upset. I proceeded to ask to speak to a manager and he said, get out, you can come back in the morning. I asked if I could give him/her a call and he refused. In the meantime, my sister wanted to check out an item she won through your current Fuel Runner promotion. He did finally check her out but was not happy about it. In fact, he mentioned under his breath that you only come in here to get everything free! Yes, we do come in because this is the only location near us, to redeem our promotion earnings, but if they did not want to honor these, they should not be a Circle K Franchise. This is simply unacceptable as nobody should be treated this way, especially as a customer. To make matters worse, I stopped back in this evening 4/28 at 8:30 p.m. to purchase the scratch-off tickets. It was a different clerk, so I asked him what time they stop selling scratch-offs behind the counter. He told me never. You can purchase those 24/7! So, here in lies my point. Absolutely ridiculous. The main building is nice inside and has plenty of lobby seating before a sales meeting. Inside there is so much memorabilia about the Walgreens family and how they got their start in the pharmaceutical business. It truly is a business passes down through the generations. The office park is located next to the highway for easy access and there is plenty of free parking if you want to come inside and see all the Walgreens collected merchandise through the years.

The sandwich was right in the cooler at eye level, cashier was friendly enough, and checkout was quick. As for the sandwich, it's basically a US egg salad sandwich with an attempt at giving it a Japanese twist but fairly pricey for what you get. The bread is supposed to mimic Japanese milk bread, and while it's softer than what you usually get in the US, it's still noticeably thicker and a bit dry around the edges with the crust left on. Definitely not that soft, almost fluffy crustless shokupan you'd find in Japan. The filling tastes like standard American egg salad which tasted a bit vinegary and heavier on the mayo (although they do say it's Kewpie), and missing the light silky smooth texture that makes the Japanese version so delicious. Nothing wrong with it, just not what the name might lead you to expect. If you've never had the real thing in Japan, you might think it's pretty good. But if you have, it's clear this version is more of an American interpretation than an actual replica. Overall, the store experience was fine and the sandwich is okay for a quick grab-and-go.

I've always had great experiences at Walgreens pharmacies. It hasn't been until I frequently need to get things like as of late that I realize how much I took that for granted. I would call in for a prescription and they'll give me a time to come pick it up or tell me a day to pick it up, and I'll come in and have to wait 30 minutes or they'll tell me they don't have it in stock. Despite sending me the message that the prescription is ready for pick up. There is one tech in particular that I've heard talk rudely about customers when asked a question. The ones who are up front talking to guests are always super sweet. But there is that one tech that whenever we ask a question he wigs on the person asking the question. It's a bit disheartening to the point where I don't want to ask questions but naturally have to at times. If you are in a need for a refill, make sure you call days in advance and still come in with time to make sure they fill your prescription.
