This place gets brownie points for the following:…read more 1) Having "my" brand of sangria cheaper than Binny's. 2) Having Robert The Bruce beer when Binny's didn't. 3) Letting me take some of their empty boxes when I was moving. 4) Carrying fresh limes all summer so you don't have to go back to the grocery store. 5) Knowing the difference between rum and cachaca. 6) I can ride my bike to here from my home! I do it for the exercise and to save gas, but I'll let everybody keep thinking that I bike to liquor stores because my license was taken away because of, um, my frequent visits to liquor stores. I like Binny's, but this is closer, has a great selection, and has better pricing on some items. I lately only go to Binny's for particular beers that Prestige doesn't always have, or has in limited quantities that may disappear quickly, like Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier. I took one star away because there seem to be some rude customers there pretty often; the kind of people who smash their car door into other people's doors and then yell at the person in the car they smashed like it was their fault for having the stupidity and audacity to park in their vicinity. Also, the parking lot can be a bitch to get out of if you drive. Also, I like that they card religiously, but there's this ONE GUY who likes to scrutinize the ID's of old ladies to make them feel young and beautiful or something, even if there's a line. Hey man, if you wait much longer, she's going to die before she can get home and drink that wine cooler. Really, though, I love this place. Thank you for selling good sangria on the cheap, Prestige!

Holy crap, yes, such a thing exists ^_^ In a fit of intrigue, yearning, and jealousy, I urgently got on the interwebz and used my keen investigatory abilities in order to find a place where i could get my desirous lil' hands on some bottles. The interwebz pointed me out to Prestige and minutes later i was in my car ready to go. Compared to other liquor stores, Prestige is on the smaller size, but it packs a big punch in terms of their craft and specialty beer selection. The place was clean, organized, and the guy in front of the counter was really helpful in terms of helping me find what i was looking for. The beer gods must have been looking out for me because i managed to snatch the last bottle of Wells Banana Bread Beer which cost around $5. I browsed their selection to see if i there was anything else cool to buy and hell yes there was. TONS of lefthand,Three Floyds, Lagunitas products, lots of interesting specialty porters, stouts, i found a creme brulee beer, a vanilla beer, AND i ended up purchasing a bottle of oatmeal stout. This place freaking rules and my banana bread beer was amazing. It smelled like bananas and tasted like awesome. Sorry Liver, but i'll be coming here back for surely .

Specialties like: Kraken rum, Camarena which is a premium tequila when set against Cuervo. Titos in a glass bottle which is a plus for those that enjoy the crisp flavor of a good vodka. (Keep'em in the freezer and shoot'em when you like.) Also it looks as though the serving size is larger than most bottles of that type but it is the same measure. I was also pleasantly surprised to find Stolichnaya minis. Another good vodka brand. In suburban liquor stores one can often find "airplane bottles" aka minis or "nips." Though, not every business will offer a finer collection. Mini bottles run from .99 cents to a few dollars depending. Usually the premium spirits carrying the higher pricing. Their setup along the counter is arranged like candy assortments found in similar convenience shops. Since I was waiting on bbq from the pizza joint next door, I had some time to kill stocking up on minis. The owner seemed nice. He was talking sports while I was making my choices. Although the name is Payless liquors.. I doubt that anyone is actually paying less for their booze. If you want discounted booze, head to a big chain. If you want to find something different or to save time, hit a convenience store.

I'm serious, it's a good thing I don't live super close to this location, because I would become a full-blown professional alcoholic if I did. You can find nearly anything you'd want to try, and you'll be amazed at how little you're paying. And the cherry on top is that they'll often give you free beer/wine carriers with your purchase if you pick up enough items. You should make this your go-to destination for all alcohol purchases if you're in the area.

Sure there the usual complement of big name blended whiskies (Suntory et al) and draft beers (thanks to the liquor monopolies in Illinois, you can find these just about everywhere). There's also a good selection of Japanese craft beef Hitachino - try the red rice beer for a nice change from the ordinary. But the Sake and Shouchuu - especially the shouchuu - is worth the drive out to Arlington Heights. Yes, there's the usual selection from The Jizake http://www.thejizake.com/ (that name always makes me giggle) - an importer of 22 different distillers' branded Sakes. But there are also some standouts that you won't find at Sam's or your local. Don't come here for the prices - come here for the selection.

You'll also find Sochu, Plum Wine, an assortment of Japanese beers and other varieties of rice wine. I bought a bottle of sake a few months ago and was completely confused... lots of brands and lots of varieties. However, I did know what grade I was looking for and asked one of the gentlemen working for help picking a bottle. He was really helpful and narrowed my selection down to two different bottles... and then I just chose the prettier one ;) Prices seem to be better here than the city as well. Grab a bowl of miso ramen next door while you're visiting. YUM.

Since they often get a steady stream of Eastern European clientele they also offer a few brands of European brand alcohols. A star attraction would be Kapitanska vodka, their large size at 1.75L for a mere $27.99. Yeah its the same as any large bottle of spirits but its the bottle it comes in. Fully decorated and its size, just causes any alcohol drinker to smile. Image it having the length and girth of a 10 year old child's leg. Yes, if you wonder, I have purchased a bottle and am waiting for a good occasion to bring it to a house party. Since Packy's is in the burbs, they also offer a medium selection of airplane bottles. They are one of very few liquor stores that allow a discounted price on buying these in bulk. Often times these airplane bottles come in packs of ten or twelve. If buying in bulk, make sure to inquire with the clerk about the rate. Most times the owner is not there and the clerk may just charge you the price per bottle. I've included a few photos to entice your interest.
