I guess this is the south side version of mambo, seafood, or Connies. I guess the southside has her own version of everything in the north side. So I decided to give this place to try with my girlfriend and I absolutely enjoyed it. The food is really good. I went with my normal, two piece, fish and six shrimp and I have to say it was absolutely amazing. One thing they didn't have is the habanero hot sauce which I love from mambos. Also, I think mambos has way better fried rice, but I will give Mannys this they have eggrolls which were absolutely amazing and I've never seen any of their competitors so props to them for that. They are very tasty too! The prices are great too! Whenever I am in the SE I'll definitely give them a try. However I do wish they would start stocking the habanero hot sauce. read more

I've been coming here for years and have never had anything bad to say about this place. Today I came in with my black girlfriend and we were just about completely ignored. We were sat quickly and then the waitress came to ask for our drink order while my girl was in the restroom. And then my girl came and sat down and told the waitress what she wanted to drink. For an offbeat seafood restaurant, this place is the best! The shrimp cocktail appetizer was plentiful and very tasty. The shrimp fried rice is better than most Chinese restaurants! Had the gumbo on a previous visit, and it too was excellent. Service is fast and efficient. It gets crowded during peak times, but it is definitely worth the wait. I use to go to Mannies for family meals. They have started the foolishness of charging extra for catfish! This is a bottom feeding fish but tasty. That needs to be the same price listed. If you don't ask, they don't care enough to tell you. Therefore, the family eats no fish from here. Now I also eat the lemon garlic butter shrimp, good for no fried eating. They act like they can only sell by the pound and very discouraging as if they can't divide by 2 for half a pound. I did find a loop hole and it's in the plate option with rice. If you are in search of a humble spot with fresh seafood at a low price, then Mannie's just may be for you. Apparently Mannie's gets it popping early as I went in around 1pm on a Sunday and the place was packed. Upon entering I noticed a fresh seafood counter, but it seemed to only hold red snapper. Nonetheless pretty cool such a small joint had a fresh seafood counter. After 2-3 minutes of standing without being acknowledged, the tiny hostess turned with a surprised look and asked how she could assist. I was directed towards the counter where to go orders are placed. It took about 10-12 minutes to prepare my to-go order. Here are the results. Pros: Food was still hot when I arrive home (15 minute drive) Shrimp fried rice was flavorful and not overly salty. Fish was fresh, although the batter reminded me of fish sticks. Yummy eggroll! Inexpensive like $11 bucks for a ton of food. Cons: I know the food is prepared fresh but everything reminded me of frozen cuisine for some reason. They provided no napkins for my to go order It took a moment to be acknowledged, but the young lady who took my order was a redeeming factor. Would I go back? Sure. I come here pretty regularly when I can since it's a bit far, but ever since I went to college, I haven't had the opportunity to come here. However, when I came back to Houston for my two week break, I immediately asked to go to Mannie's seafood. I didn't crave any other restaurant But Mannie's. I hadn't been here in about a year and a half so I was wondering if the food may have gotten worse or if the prices had gone up but luckily they didn't. I ATE LIKE A PIG HERE and stuffed my face with ceviche, fish ranchero, seafood soup, and shrimp fried noodles. Everything tasted exactly how I remember it tasted and the entire time I was crying internally at how good the food was. You can tell that the seafood is extremely fresh because it has great texture and no odd odors. It is SO FREaKIN good. Also, it's very cheap too. We get ceviche all the time but it's not my favorite. My favorite would have to be their seafood soup, shrimp fried rice, and shrimp fried noodles! Honestly as an Asian, they cook better noodles and rice than the ones I've tried in Chinatown. My friend ordered fried catfish. However, what he got wasn't catfish and it wasn't cooked all the way through. Updating my review of years ago. Today I had shrimp cocktail which was delivered quickly without issue. It was yummy! I also got the fried shrimp and oyster combo. Service was great and I'm glad I came back. The service was a little slow but I think that was due to the back of the house. The server apologized several times for the lateness of my oyster cocktail. There were tons of oysters in the cocktail. The only thing I would change would be the cocktail sauce being more on the oysters rather than oyster water. I couldn't reach the cocktail sauce until I dug below the oysters. I will start by saying we've lived close to this location for the last 19 yrs. The food is always good to great. Tonight's review is about how we were ignored, mistreated & discriminated against since my wife does not speak spanish. The hostess who greeted us, sat us within a minute only to sit for 10 mins without being approached by any wait staff. I finally waved down Isabel who I had to explain in fluent Spanish that we hadn't been greeted & we were ready to order after sitting for 10 mins. Drinks came in a decent time but that's where the service took a downward spiral. Ignored again for 10 mins I waved her down to ask if my wife could have her salad before her meal. Waitress rolled her eyes & said she'd have to go put that request in. Was that request really unreasonable for an eye roll? We then people watched for another 10 mins as 2 separate single men at 2 separate tables got the royal treatment. One even got a hug! It was almost as if we were being pranked! One of those men got his main course before my wife & he got there after our drinks! Not sure if she felt uncomfortable that my wife didn't speak Spanish but that shouldn't made a difference since I was translating for her. Half way into our meal we never get checked on. I had to wave her down for some cocktail sauce. She pauses at our table & doesn't completely stop & walks away before I was finished talking. She brings the sauce quickly & doesn't wait to ask if we need anything else. She races to the two other 1 person tables. By this time my wife is very upset since we had her empty tea glass at the end of the table when she delivered the cocktail sauce & didn't bother to ask if my wife needed a refill. My wife then holds her tea glass up in the air for 5 mins until Isabel notices us again. By then my wife had enough. Takes a sip of tea to wash down her food from 10 mins earlier. We get up to go pay & explain to the cashier what happened. She quietly apologized & the said she would tell the manager. Well just to make sure Mannies management or ownership knows of our experience tonight, I'm am here. We are long time customers. We enjoy the food but your wait staff is of low quality lately. It's almost like no experience is necessary to work there. Ok even if they want to give everyone a chance, train them! It's our 1st time not to leave a tip in our 19 yrs of marriage. GO TO MANNIE'S! You'll regret it if you don't. The service was acceptable but the food was extraordinary! Not a single person turned out unhappy with what they ordered. Yes I'm a fan of Mannies! Had to do an errand at the Hobby Airport so I was keeping my eyes wide open for some Mexican seafood restaurants on the freeway. I absolutely love Mexican seafood like the type way down in Mexico at the resorts or small villages. I could eat it everyday in every style from ceviche, raw, grilled or fried. I had stopped in first to check out the menu and it passed! The restaurant was half full later in the evening with happy looking patrons eating all this Mexican seafood. I had to have some. So I took my dining partner here. The menu had a very good selection of the above mentioned seafoods I like. The only exception was that they didn't serve fried snapper or tilapia with the sautéed squid, calamari, clams, shrimp, oysters (my fave). So I ordered the whole fried tilapia fish floured, shrimp fried rice and a roll for $5.95. Unbelievable pricing and flavor! Yes you have to pick out some bones in a whole fried fish but no problem. That gives the fish more flavor :))!!! Also got a side of the yummiest shrimp fried rice for like $5 range. My dining partner got a fried fish sammie toasted with the fixings and hot fries just made for the same price range. Everything was so good and fresh. Friendly service with bi-lingual server. Awesome pricing for so much good food and pleasant casual atmosphere. Got my craving satisfied and had plenty of shrimp fried rice for leftovers. Will be back when in the area. She was the only ones responsible for phone order on Tuesday 11/24/2020 lunchtime) asked for my name and phone number. I even spelled my name our for her. Then she hung up on me which was super rude but I was like okay whatever. My coworker went pick up the food for me. I thought everything was fine till I received a call from my coworker saying there's no order here under my name or any order for family meal!!! She had to place another order and waited for 25 more minutes!!! I was super confused! Called the restaurant back and the host told me she had charged the order already! Even more confused Turned out the order was already ready when my coworker arrived. The host just made her wait for nothing! Unbelievable! Luckily, the manager was helpful and fixed everything. Mexican seafood. Didnt know what that meant until this week, but tried based on nearness to marriott hotel and yelp reviews. Yeah yelp. Had tostado de shrimp to start . Essentially a spicy shrimp cocktail on fried corn tostado (spelling?). Very good portion and taste for 3.95. and a bud light (with lemon juice) . Never had it that way. Cool. Dinner had the grilled salmon platter. 8.95 Substituted small salad for the broccoli. Came with good soft roll and fantastic shrimp fried rice. Very tasty, prepared perfect. By the way it is also a fresh seafood market, that probably help the fish quality and freshness. Bilingual server , very nice, attentive, helpful . Great food, great service, great price.
