The food was tasty and cooked well. We had the Philly cheese steak combinations with fries and tea. Everything tasted fresh and the staff was very friendly. Mankins is a must for my family when we vacation in Holden Beach. I haven't been to HB since 2020 and it seems like the menu changed a little bit. There were more menu items, which is a great thing! I always get the big burger all the way (chili, slaw, mustard, and onions.) it came with two patties and cheese as well. The fries were the perfect crispiness and the burger never disappoints! Service was pretty fast. They make everything to order. There is some seating inside, but not a lot. I can't wait to go back next year! read more

Absolute trash. You would think that a café at the beach would have a good fish sandwich right? Absolutely not. It's frozen squares, just like McDonald's! The first one they served me was so hammered I took it back. They made another but I could only eat a couple of bites. Server said people go there for the hamburgers and offered me one to go. Locals know Mankin's Causeway Cafe is the place to go for great hand-made burgers. Open only from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm, Mankin's is definitely worth a stop if burgers, dogs, and fries are your jam. The cafe is small and no-frills, but clean and efficient, with an A sanitation rating and friendly staff. You wait in line, order at the counter, and then find a seat or get it to go. If you opt to dine in, they'll call your name and bring the food to you when it's ready. The menu is limited, and there's only one laminated copy of it at the counter where you order. The hamburgers are hand-formed on site, and cooked to order. You'll wait a little longer, but according to my husband and nephew, it is absolutely worth it. Since it has come under new management, the quality has gone down, and the prices have gone up. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers, 1 hotdog, and 2 drinks. This was $30. The main problem I have with this is the food was bland. Nearly flavorless. I'm sad to say that this will be the last time I come to Mankins. Edit: since you can't respond to a response, I shall edit this response. I am quite familiar with Mankins. I remember when Barnicle Bill's was here. My wife and I each got a cheeseburger, my 4 year old ate half of your hotdog and we had 2 soft drinks. I have eaten at establishments in Holden beach for 30+ years. I am pleased that you finally responded 9 months after I posted this review. It shows that it really isn't that important to you. I guarantee you wouldn't be able to pick me out of a lineup if you saw me. Not that you will at this restaurant again. Hopefully, all future patrons have a better experience moving forward. It's one of those small 9 table restaurants, but packed with flavor. Hamburgers are cooked to order. My husband had one and let me taste it. Juicy and of course he got it "all the way" (mustard, onion, chili, and homemade slaw). I had the footlong "the way", 6 napkin hotdog. Fries tasted fresh and nice and crispy. This is an excellent unassuming little place. My kids cannot come to the beach without at least one chicken tender meal from Mankins. The fries are very good, and the burgers are made fresh daily-no frozen patties here. The people who work here are always friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable. They will do take out too. This place has been a mainstay on the causeway here forever, it seems. Place always seems busy at peak times, even in the off season. The chili dog here is very good, though perhaps not the best on the beach, but still worth a stop just to try one, The Cheeseburger here is exceptional, nice crusted patty off the well worn grill, great flavor - not the biggest in the world, but worth the price. Alright food, but very long wait and got sick after. We watched as meat from a giant Tupperware bin was put on the grill without employee washing their hands or using gloves. We tried Mankins for the first time a few days ago and I was highly disappointed. There is a better family owned business in Shallotte (right down the road) that serves up tastier fare! During this health crisis, you would think that all service type establishments would adhere to the law of wearing masks when out in public. Not only did the two ladies working there not have on any masks or gloves, my husband was the only customer there wearing a mask to pick up our order. I work in the health business and because of them simply ignoring wearing a mask to help stop this virus, we will NEVER return. What you do on your personal time is your business. Wear a mask or not - I don't care. But when you are in public and preparing my food, it is a must and don't forget, it is also law. read more

I remember the first time when somebody told me to try Mankins I thought they were joking considering that I'd seen the small trailer-like building before and thought nothing of it (this was years ago). Turns out I was missing out because Mankins has the best burgers of Supply/Holden Beach. I normally get the "Big Burger" with a side of fries. This place has one of the best hotdogs I have found! We ordered 20 hotdogs and a few burgers for our crowd and they gave us a whole bottle of Texas Pete to go with it. I've been going to Mankins since we moved to Holden Beach 5 years ago. The burgers are pretty good, but, it seems that every time I go, the wait gets longer. I told myself the last time I would not be back after a 35 minute wait for a burger. Today, it was 58 minutes. 2 burgers and fries. After the 30 minute mark, 4 people came in and ordered at the counter, they got their food and all four ordered basically the same thing I did. What I did notice during my hour of standing at the counter is, if they knew your name, you got your food ahead of other orders. To close, I will say this. No burger, at a burger joint, should take 58 minutes. Standing at the counter, I over heard call in orders so I knew who ordered. And sure enough, they came and went while I stood there. Oh, did I mention that they were not overly busy??? I could have driven to Burg-Dog in Shallotte, had a better burger and been home before I ever got my food. First time eating here. Went in and immediately greeted. Both ladies there were nice and attentive. Ordered breakfast 2 eggs bacon hash browns toast and a tea. All was great tea wasn't over sweet and give everything a 5 star except the price a little over 8 dollars for that. But then again it all was made fresh to order, so be it. Will I go back? Myself and four other very hungry guys were craving a hamburger and stumbled into this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, or inside, but the Big Cheeseburger was REALLY good! We all got the Big Cheeseburger (two hamburger patties) and we all chose not to order it "all the way" (includes chili and cole slaw). Each burger was made fresh to order. They were similar to "Five Guys" and we have been talking about how good they were all week. Fries were good too. Highly recommend.
