Another day trip to Southport and we chose to dine here. Located on the main road with plenty of street parking to include disabled parking. They offer outdoor seating, bar seats, and the standard small tables or booths inside. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender asked what our beverage of choice is. Just water. After a quick look at the menu, we chose the Hey Jude and Hungry Like A Wolf breakfast bowls. The restaurant is very quirky and eclectic inside with paintings everywhere. They do have a full bar. A variety of non alcoholic beverages to include coffee. The menu has a lot to offer for all palettes. Our food arrived after a little wait. Looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. We both enjoyed our meal and agreed we liked each others after sharing. As far as bowls go, we do recommend dining here. Next time we'll try other menu items. The service was great. The bartender was really nice and friendly. She engaged with us a little bit with small conversation. Overall good experience. read more

I can't believe that we have never been here before. We stopped in for brunch and loved it. It was the Mr Bojangles omelette with the sunup salad & toast and a wake me up before you go go coffee for my husband and the roxanne omelette with cheese grits and a mimosa for me. It was all delicious and the service was fantastic. I can't wait to return. read more

Was recommended this pace by one of our frd. We absolutely loved what we ordered - vegan "Santana" and vegan "could u be loved". Finding a tasty cooked tempeh is not very usual but this place had the best of it. I love that they have separate vegan options, it makes our life so easy. Also love their latte - "Walk this way", absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend to all vegan and non vegan peeps. read more

Cafe Koa is wonderful! I got the Levon sandwich, and it was even better than I could have hoped for! It included a large serving of fish, great bread, and the peach relish was *chef's kiss*. My husband got the Kokomo tacos and also loved his dish. Additionally, the mimosas were delicious and strong! It was super cute inside, too! Great vibes, and service was fantastic. I highly recommend and will certainly be back! read more

Always love the food at Cafe Koa! The playful and eclectic atmosphere exudes happiness. Our server Dyer was helpful with menu selections and on top of our drink refills. Our food was fabulous, Love Shack salad, Katerina chicken tacos and Chicken salad toast did not disappoint. Finished up with what just might be the best iced coffee ever. Definitely go. read more

One of my sisters is VEGAN! So this is a great restaurant for people who are and also people who are not vegan. As you can see I got chicken and waffles and it was superb. My sister got some sort of vegan breakfast bowl and my god, she danced for it when the waitress brought it out. Happy customers all around, also the bathroom was awesome. read more

it is apparently under renovation and completely closed. We drove 40 minutes because Yelp and Google showed they were open. Business owners need to update their information and website. read more

We had seen great reviews about this restaurant but were disappointed overall. The waitress was not good at all, I had to ask for things several times and things that should have been standard like silverware and checking on our drink refills, food, etc were not done. I watched how many tables she had and it was not overly busy . It took much longer to be seated than they told us which does happen sometimes but it just added to the overall not great experience. The food was ok but nothing special. read more

I was a worker at kafe koa in 2025 for about 6 months until September of 2025 when my farther passed away and I was fired with no explanation whatsoever. after I was told to take as much time off as I needed. I was ignored by the owner herself. When I tried to reach out about coming back to work ONE WEEK after the passing of my father I was ignored and was never spoken to about my job. These are selfish inconsiderate People that made me feel like I was in the wrong about needing time to grieve for my father!! if you ever want to work or eat at this place remember the type of people ur support as a business. I want the WHOLE town of Southport to know how I was treated by these people. it took me alot of time to be able to go through with this review because I want everyone to know the truth!!!! read more

I am posting a review just because I misunderstood the Yelp reviews. I came to this place assuming it was a quick place to grab a bagel and a coffee possibly to go. It is a sit down brunch/lunch and I believe offers dinner as well. I was a little confused on the menu; where it looks cool, it's a bit scattered with specific names to food items. We ended up having a drink, and then explored the near by area. The price of the drink ordered did not match the price on the menu. The waitress was sweet, but not very helpful for a first time customer. Ambiance 10/10. I'd come back, read more

Spent the day in Southport and decided to check out this cute café because it was recommended as having vegan options. As many yelpers have shared, we lucked out and got Holly as a server! And as expected, she was wonderful, providing lots of helpful tips and recommendations for vegan menu options. The service was quick, the presentation was beautiful, as you can see in the picture and they even had live music at lunch today. The food was healthy and fresh, but my dish wasn't terribly flavorful; however, I had asked for no cilantro which might've been the problem. The prices were reasonable and the menu was varied and unique. It's definitely worth your while to check this place out next time you're in town! read more

Out family of ten waited for about 30 minutes at Cafe Koa to be seated and even offered to split up into two smaller groups. The server told us she could seat us when a larger table opened up. When it did, we were then told they don't split up groups. She was very rude, so we left. Our family enjoyed a lovely dinner together just down the street at another Southport restaurant. read more

Cute little (modern) diner in Southport. The service was professional and quick, but to be honest a little too friendly (kinda forcing the smiles and cheerfulness). The food selections we made were smart and simple and the food was what we needed but it was nothing over the top. We sat outside, because we had a dog. I have to say, the fact that they reserve tables outside for people with dogs seemed like a novel idea but I could see it rubbing people the wrong way when they were put a waitlist and my fiancee and I were the only ones sitting outside because we were the only ones with a dog (I'm on the fence whether I think this is the best idea ever or an annoying feature). Inside was DECORATED -- stimulation overload... but, I have to admit that the bar area was very cute. All in all, I would give Cafe Koa a second chance to impress me if I'm ever in Southport again. read more

This place has become our go-to restaurant. Love the vibe, people, food. Something for everyone. My favorite is the Koko rice bowl with any protein. read more

The service was okay. The waitress was so busy with other task they did not have time to attend to us. They were nice enough but not available. The chai glass was hot but the chai itself was luke warm. The eggs were way too salty. Potatoes were frozen type and only warm. Actually did not finish food. Another waitress took our extra chair without speaking to us or asking if we needed it. Took a while to get butter for toast bc waitress was not available. We had ask other waitresses for help with butter, check etc. They were not friendly about it. The chandelier above table was very dusty. Needs to be cleaned. It was okay, do not plan to return. The wait itself was not bad, decor was cute , minus the dirty chandelier. read more

Fantastic food and great service! We had brunch and everything was outstanding. Definitely will be back.

Such a great find in Southport! Creative menu with lots of dietary options. We had a delicious breakfast and ordered an assortment of items. The Free Bird omelette was light and flavorful with just the right amount of Monterey Jack cheese. Grits were creamy and good. Turkey sausage patties are tender and lightly seasoned. Bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy without being dry. The pancakes were perfection and had a nice touch of cinnamon. Our new favorite place in Southport. Can't wait to try lunch or dinner. A full range of delicious looking cocktails and desserts were passing us by! Breakfast including coffee was $23. Very reasonable for this level of food. read more

Loved our casual dinner here. The Mahi wonton meal will be calling me back...Delish!! And our darling server was great!

We recently got married and we had our rehearsal dinner at Cafe Koa. We had a small group of 13 but for this relatively tiny place, this was a lot. While the space was cozy, we had a terrific time. Melanie and her team couldn't have been lovelier and more helpful in making our joyous event special. We began with hors d'ovres, while we stood around in our area meeting and greeting family and friends we hadn't seen in awhile. She did some tuna toasts, wonderful shrimp snacks and a few other things. My only criticism was that these were quite large for standing and trying to eat while holding a drink. It would have been much better if they had been smaller and really bite sized. She had prepared a lovely printed menu with 5 or 6 entree choices which ranged from a wonderful Mahi Mahi dish to a local favorite shrimp and grits to a vegetarian cauliflower dish and a few others. All were outstanding. The piece de resistance was an enormous and very beautiful cake. It was truly the best cake I can remember having in a very long time...if ever. What was so good about it was that it was not, unlike so many bakery cakes around here, overly sweet. The frosting was truly a buttercream confection but also not overly sweet. All in all this experience was such a wonderful memory. I will surely call upon Cafe Koa for any future group events and for sure my new husband and I will be back for some lovely dinners very soon. read more

Went in for brunch on a Sunday. Been meaning to dine here since discovering sister eateries at Kai Joe's and Koko Cabana. Great food. Eggs were fresh. And the Turkey Sausage was a step up from the norm. Mrs Bo's Spinach Feta omelet was awesome too. Healthy salad side option was a plus for brunch. The house Chardonnay was above average . Service was super friendly. The owner even dropped by the table to say hi. Get in there now before the season starts up again!! read more

It's very challenging to have a creative and successful food joint at the beach due to the seasonal volume swings, but this mother daughter team has done it. The place has a comfortable beach cottage feel, which I think was the goal. It's modern and loungy. Staff has a relaxing vibe, while working hard. The food is fantastic. Lots of options for everyone, including vegans and vegetarians. This is a very special place. Eat here. read more

Loved this spot for a late breakfast. They have an eclectic menu that was full of flavor. As a vegetarian, I appreciated the options available to me that weren't *salad*.
