Another day trip to Southport and we chose to dine here. Located on the main road with plenty of street parking to include disabled parking. They offer outdoor seating, bar seats, and the standard small tables or booths inside. We decided to sit at the bar. The bartender asked what our beverage of choice is. Just water. After a quick look at the menu, we chose the Hey Jude and Hungry Like A Wolf breakfast bowls. The restaurant is very quirky and eclectic inside with paintings everywhere. They do have a full bar. A variety of non alcoholic beverages to include coffee. The menu has a lot to offer for all palettes. Our food arrived after a little wait. Looked, smelled, and tasted amazing. We both enjoyed our meal and agreed we liked each others after sharing. As far as bowls go, we do recommend dining here. Next time we'll try other menu items. The service was great. The bartender was really nice and friendly. She engaged with us a little bit with small conversation. Overall good experience. read more

I was a worker at kafe koa in 2025 for about 6 months until September of 2025 when my farther passed away and I was fired with no explanation whatsoever. after I was told to take as much time off as I needed. I was ignored by the owner herself. When I tried to reach out about coming back to work ONE WEEK after the passing of my father I was ignored and was never spoken to about my job. These are selfish inconsiderate People that made me feel like I was in the wrong about needing time to grieve for my father!! if you ever want to work or eat at this place remember the type of people ur support as a business. Cafe Koa is wonderful! I got the Levon sandwich, and it was even better than I could have hoped for! It included a large serving of fish, great bread, and the peach relish was *chef's kiss*. One of my sisters is VEGAN! So this is a great restaurant for people who are and also people who are not vegan. As you can see I got chicken and waffles and it was superb. My sister got some sort of vegan breakfast bowl and my god, she danced for it when the waitress brought it out. Happy customers all around, also the bathroom was awesome. read more

The waitress was not good at all, I had to ask for things several times and things that should have been standard like silverware and checking on our drink refills, food, etc were not done. Spent the day in Southport and decided to check out this cute café because it was recommended as having vegan options. As many yelpers have shared, we lucked out and got Holly as a server! And as expected, she was wonderful, providing lots of helpful tips and recommendations for vegan menu options. The service was quick, the presentation was beautiful, as you can see in the picture and they even had live music at lunch today. The food was healthy and fresh, but my dish wasn't terribly flavorful; however, I had asked for no cilantro which might've been the problem. The food selections we made were smart and simple and the food was what we needed but it was nothing over the top. We sat outside, because we had a dog. I have to say, the fact that they reserve tables outside for people with dogs seemed like a novel idea but I could see it rubbing people the wrong way when they were put a waitlist and my fiancee and I were the only ones sitting outside because we were the only ones with a dog (I'm on the fence whether I think this is the best idea ever or an annoying feature). The chai glass was hot but the chai itself was luke warm. The eggs were way too salty. Potatoes were frozen type and only warm. Actually did not finish food. Another waitress took our extra chair without speaking to us or asking if we needed it. Took a while to get butter for toast bc waitress was not available. We had ask other waitresses for help with butter, check etc. They were not friendly about it. The chandelier above table was very dusty. Needs to be cleaned. It was okay, do not plan to return. Such a great find in Southport! Creative menu with lots of dietary options. We had a delicious breakfast and ordered an assortment of items. The Free Bird omelette was light and flavorful with just the right amount of Monterey Jack cheese. Grits were creamy and good. Turkey sausage patties are tender and lightly seasoned. Bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy without being dry. The pancakes were perfection and had a nice touch of cinnamon. Our new favorite place in Southport. Can't wait to try lunch or dinner. We recently got married and we had our rehearsal dinner at Cafe Koa. We had a small group of 13 but for this relatively tiny place, this was a lot. While the space was cozy, we had a terrific time. Melanie and her team couldn't have been lovelier and more helpful in making our joyous event special. We began with hors d'ovres, while we stood around in our area meeting and greeting family and friends we hadn't seen in awhile. She did some tuna toasts, wonderful shrimp snacks and a few other things. My only criticism was that these were quite large for standing and trying to eat while holding a drink. It would have been much better if they had been smaller and really bite sized. She had prepared a lovely printed menu with 5 or 6 entree choices which ranged from a wonderful Mahi Mahi dish to a local favorite shrimp and grits to a vegetarian cauliflower dish and a few others. All were outstanding. The piece de resistance was an enormous and very beautiful cake. It was truly the best cake I can remember having in a very long time...if ever. What was so good about it was that it was not, unlike so many bakery cakes around here, overly sweet. The frosting was truly a buttercream confection but also not overly sweet. All in all this experience was such a wonderful memory. I will surely call upon Cafe Koa for any future group events and for sure my new husband and I will be back for some lovely dinners very soon. read more

They have indoor and outdoor seating, a fun menu that has you humming throw back tunes as you make your selection. First time we had a group of 7, and 2nd time had just 2 of us. Both times, our service was great. Today, our waitress, Sierra, allowed us to linger over a cup of coffee no rush in deciding what to eat and just laughed at how we asked for substitutes or changes to the dishes. They were incredibly accommodating! Today had a toast, but instead of the thai shrimp, with avocado/tomatoe/chive cream, I opted for a fried egg. Which came out perfect!
