In hindsight I could have driven 30 minutes home and been as well off for free. I didn't know my business would apparently be so unvalued or I would have. I just ordered 2 el pastor tacos and the chips and salsa they brought to begin with. The female waitress gently tried to talk me into a lunch special with rice and beans but I'm on a tight budget. but I also needed to eat something before the drive home after a recent Sunday funeral for someone I didn't know well and didn't feel comfortable going to their family gathering, and this place wasn't far away and they had good reviews. But the service was sllloooowww. Mind you they were busy. But I also ordered ONLY 2 TACOS! Good service would expedite the 2 solitary tacos ahead of the group of 10 or however many. From when I sat down and got chips and salsa it took a long time to even take my order, and then it took a half hour from when I walked in and sat down and was given a menu to even get 2 TACOS. A HALF HOUR. I'm starving and patient in the moment, so I look up some things I need to look up on my phone. No checking back before or after. I still left a good tip based on percentage of order total but it's because I'm a good customer and have family who've waitressed. It certainly wasn't because she deserved it, because I also had to go up and ask for my bill. I couldn't help but think I was alone and "only" ordered 2 tacos (as a paying customer) so maybe she thought I'm not worth the effort, but not even 30-60 seconds worth? For a paying customer?! I ran out of water but she wouldn't have known, because she easily avoided or forgot me sitting at the one table for 2 by the door while she went to the people behind me at the larger table near the counter, or to the majority of the people on the other side of the divider in the main area of the restaurant. There are WAY too many options elsewhere, especially when I don't usually eat out, so I doubt I'll ever be back or recommend it, even for what was tasty food.

Quickly, after walking into Melina's, we were greeted with a friendly "Hi, just the two of you?" A…read more"wheeeww" sounded, swirling through my head, ushering away the stressful day we'd had so far. You know, that tense sigh of relief you can feel, right behind your eyes and above your temples. First, at our original Blackfoot destination, we had been treated as though we weren't welcome--so we left without ordering lunch. Blackfoot holds quite a few of our 'We've not tried,' so we headed out to cross another off. After fighting with navigation about what direction we were actually facing, we eventually arrived at our second pick--closed on Tuesday! "Bleep, sighhh." We found a 'next spot' to try our luck at. My navigation spat out "Exit the parking lot" with a northward arrow (I was facing north, so it was telling me to drive through a building) We just hoped for some good fortune and turned right out of the parking lot--headed to Melina's--not feeling very hopeful. So, as you might guess, the warm greeting, comfortable air, spacious area with plenty of seating at larger-than-average tables, and being surrounded by a history of cultural art lightened my spirits. Our young lady server was very patient, checking on us occasionally, while I wasted her energy by snapping photos of EVERYTHING The menu is pretty decent-sized, and provides some detailed descriptions of items on it, which I appreciate (as many Mexican restaurant menus are non-descript). They've got some rare dessert finds in there too. Another cool thing (good for those who want to sample a couple-few foods), many of their items come in a choice of three sizes--with large being tops. I got a small Chorizo & Egg burrito. It comes with rice or beans, but I opted out of those (saving room for dessert). The burrito comes smothered in red sauce containing meat (I assume mild chorizo). No matter, it was tasty, went down easy and started squashing that hangry bug. She got a Taco Salad that was topped with ample cheese, sour cream, and guac. It looked very fresh and festive. We both, as is our norm, ordered Chile Rellenos a la carte. Those are delicious, and I recommend them. For dessert, I had the ice cream-topped sopaipillas. It was my first time trying something like those. They were ok, but next time I'll order what she had! Wow, the Peach Chimichanga! It also comes with vanilla ice cream, and the way she was eating it (like someone was gonna take it away), I was lucky to get a bite, lol. That was the highlight of her meal. But she had no complaints about anything and, with me, voted Melina's to our 'We Like.' Melina's is a Mexican place that has a relaxed diner vibe, serving up quick & tasty food at very reasonable prices. They're very flexible for customizing, and the service is knowledgeable. It's as if they "invented" Melina's, and they're on top of it. 5*

Our waitress was kind and responsive, she refilled our chips and drinks quickly and the wait for food wasn't long at all. I've been twice in the last 5 years or so, I think if I lived nearby I'd be in every now and then. Decent food and staff.
