Called for a same-day inspection and even though they notified me that they were booked, they still squeezed me in. I was interested in purchasing a car from the dealer next door and wanted to get it inspected before purchasing. The mechanics test drove my prospective car and lifted it up. Being that it was a car from up north, I had reservations about there being rust under the car. Apparently this shop has been here for decades, down this quiet dead-end industrial road, proving Manic Mechanic is one of East Orlando/Winter Park's best-kept secrets. The only pitfall is that this is a small shop, so you'll probably need to leave your car overnight for jobs that take more than a couple hours. So, I had my car towed to The Manic Mechanic shop. I was a day late because I could not get a tow truck the day before...maybe the rain had something to do with it....When I showed up..he said "I thought you were coming yesterday because today I have a lot to do" I thought..wow so rude..the next day..as soon as he opened...I went to tow my car out of there..I needed a throttle body..he said $450..I got it cheaper on Forsyth Road..$360 So, when I went to pick up my vehicle (he did not know I was coming) why was he backing up my car with the cover of my engine off on the side when he knew he was waiting to order the part for my car? to me it was strange.. at that point.my car should have been parked if he did not even order the part yet....I think there was no reason for him to be moving my car around. I am glad I got my car out of there when I did. read more

The old reviews here are quite stale on this place and it has changed from the fond memories of the past. They are now charging dealership rates for a shade tree mechanic outfit. Come on - $96 per hour for a one bay garage grease monkey?? The work I had done on my car was not done correctly nor was the car put back together properly. I had to go back and ask them to make it right. I got excuses but they did fix it. I found later they did a cobble job on it. A good friend of mine who has been using him for many years is turning away as his prices are outlandish for this type of shop. You are better off going to the dealership if you are going to pay these kinds of high prices and you KNOW that you will have solid backing behind the work. Do yourself a favor and take your car some place else. There are better shops out there for a lot less money that do quality work and stand behind it 100%. read more

So I've been taking my vehicles to Manic Mechanic for years. The last service I had was in 2012, when I had them do my timing belt and water pump. They did a great job, and also showed me that my radiator had a leak (and replaced it). I've always had the experience that they do great work, fix any mistakes that they made (I can't think of any off hand), and do not perform any unnecessary work. This contrasts to a commercial type place that gives you a print out of 75 things you don't really need done to the car. It's a small shop, so you might have to wait a little longer than usual, and the prices aren't as cheap as you may find somewhere else. For me, it's worth paying a little bit more for peace of mind and quality work. read more

I moved out of the area, so I have not been to this mechanic in a couple of years, but I was fondly remembering the great service and great work he did on my car and decided to give him a review. That's right, years later this guy's work still sticks out in my mind. I brought my car here more than once and he was always straight forward and honest.
