Their pricing is a scam. They change the rental pricing and protection plan coverage every month/couple of months without telling you what the new price will be in advanced, why it's being changed, and if you can opt into a different tier. For example, one month in, they changed their protection plan coverage pricing and automatically put me on the most expensive plan. The manager then mistakenly canceled all my coverage for a month I had already paid for. It was a real mess. They also doubled my rental price within three months even though their website says "From time to time, there may be a minimal adjustment to your rental rate." Customer service reps could not give me any reason as to how doubling the rent is considered reasonable and within their stated policy. Avoid. read more

Had to straighten out some problems after losing my keys, have to say that I had another really exceptional experience with the front desk (again also have to say that the phone assistance at the "central office" is really not good at all). Kim was really outstanding - so personable but also efficient and really helped me untangle a few things. I had to have the lock cut off on my unit and buy a new one, new keys etc. and the person who drilled out the lock, Richard, was outstanding. I felt very lucky that an experience that could have been stressful was a great one, and lucky to have two wonderful staff members to work with. Richard was patient and persistent - one of the cylinders was tough and it took a lot of doing and a couple of different drill bits. He had to go back downstairs to get different equipment and afterwards was kind enough to go get a dolly since there were things I had to move, and he helped with that, also. I was there with a friend and we three had a lovely conversation about how great it is to deal with nice people. It was clear that he enjoyed his job/enjoyed helping people. And at the end of it, on the way out, Donna had come on duty - the Donna from before in my first review. She once again stood out in terms of her demeanor, willingness to help. Please commend all three of them. Kim (Kimberly) really made my day be sorting through things and solving everything pretty quickly, and Richard really added an extra touch, easy going but professional and with a "can do" attitude that you don't often see these days. Worst self-storage experience of my life. They're going to get you for their $25 / month "Value protection plan" or whatever they call it this month no matter whether or not you have insurance, and no matter how many times you send proof of insurance (they'll just hit you up the very next chance they get). I had to call and email repeatedly. They'll increase prices on you within months of you locking your stuff up. It seems there is a population of homeless people living within the Spring Street facility, sitting in the bin and eating with charging cords draped across to the nearest outlet. I do feel for most of them but occasionally that is frightening when you're trying to put something away in the evening. Often a smell of urine in the aisles. Hours changed, now you have to pay ridiculous extra fees to access your unit in the later hours when you're out of work. All downhill since Storagemart took it over. Look elsewhere if you'd like to save yourself endless aggravation. read more

Shocked to see so many positive reviews. This place is a joke. 1. They don't accept packages via USPS or messenger. 2. They dont place packages in your unit and you only have 48 hours to pick them up. Not very helpful if you are trying to run a business. 3. While you can have multiple people listed on the account, the packages can only be addressed to one person. Again, making things very complicated for running a business. 4. Staff is rude AF - especially Mark. I've never received such poor customer service in my life. He continued to yell, scream, and talk over me when I confronted him about returning and rejecting deliveries. 5. They will nickel and dime you for everything.... cart use, box breakdown, etc etc. If you are running a business and use storage for a team or group, look elsewhere. They've returned/ rejected so many of packages for some reason or another - we've lost so much money in shipping costs. We will be canceling our account and moving somewhere more geared towards servicing companies. read more

I stored all the contents of my apartment here for 3.5 months while it was under renovation. I was impressed with how clean Manhattan Mini Storage is -- not to mention it felt safe, secure, and well-lit. The hallways are lined with security cameras, and each storage unit requires two heavy-duty locks (one of which they provide, one of which you provide or purchase). Every time I went back to my storage unit to retrieve or exchange a few items, it was easy to get in and out of the facility using the key card, and I never saw any problems with my unit. This being NYC, I had been a little worried about potential issues about pests or temp control/moisture when storing things for so long, but it's now been close to 2 months since I moved my things back to my apartment -- I have had no problems with my furniture, clothes, or other belongings. (My movers did wrap all my upholstered furniture in plastic wrap -- check with your movers if they do that). The way the loading dock is set up makes it very easy for movers to do their job during move-in/move-out as well. All of the staff I encountered were very helpful and friendly as well. The only word of advice I have with the Soho site is -- if you or your movers are in a major rush for any reason, be wary about trying to come or leave during prime rush hour times using Varick St because you will likely encounter tunnel traffic. read more

Your stuff is definitely safe here, but the staff is usually pretty snippy. I have rented here for 8 months. A few staff members are nice but most are very machismo and arrogant. I feel like every time I ask about car service, or the bathroom key, or where are all the carts, they want to bite my head off with anger. Is it because I am female, or because I interrupted your computer solitaire game? I get this attitude from them whether they are insanely busy with other customers or not. They often do not have enough carts. They charge for using the dumpster. In other words, they charge you to store your stuff and they charge you to throw it away. Nice facility but explore every other option before signing up. I was thinking I would move my stuff to a smaller unit, but now I just want to get all my stuff out and be done with the place. read more

I couldn't find a new apartment before my lease ended and got a locker to store my furniture for a month. I think the price was reasonable and the teller set everything up in about an hour. There is always someone at the counter, 24/7. When I left, I lost my card and it was a week into another month I had already been charged for. I remember seeing a sign that required 21 days notice of move out. I was sure there would be problems, certain they'd charge me an extra month and throw all sorts of fees at me. That was not the case at all! It cost $10 to replace my card and the remaining locker time was refunded. read more

Manhattan Mini Storage was great, until I wanted to leave. I had a few thousand dollars worth of furniture that I no longer needed, and when I told them I wanted to end the contract and asked for help finding a charity to donate my furniture to, all the great customer service stopped abruptly. Not only would they not help me find a charity, they would not let me leave the keys there for a charity to pick up, so I would have to wait at the storage unit during the several hour window that Salvation Army might come by. I asked if I could give the keys to Salvation Army myself, and again, they said no. I asked them if I could pay them to just dispose of the furniture, and they said it would cost something close to the cost of the deposit. After failing to find a charity that would pick up my furniture over the weekend (I travel during the week for work), I came back and offered to pay them their crazy fee for removing the furniture. They said no. I offered to forfeit the entire deposit to avoid the inconvenience of renting a truck, and they told me they would have to send my account to collections, which would of course hurt my credit score. read more

I've been a customer here for the past 4 years. I can honestly say that I've had no complaints. The staff has been great and very attentive. The place is clean and secure. Last week I had a major horrible incident with my storage unit (that was beyond their control -- just one of those things that happens). Anyway, Carlos (the General Manager) and Mark (the manager) could not have been more helpful, sympathetic and accommodating. They gave me everything I needed to clean out my storage unit and move to another one and then offered me one-months credit for my horrible experience (again, it was something that was almost like a freak accident - just an unusual weird situation). They were fantastic. They made a horrible situation bearable and accepted responsibility for fixing the problem WITHOUT QUESTION. Very happy with them and the facilities. read more

I had fantastic service from this place. I needed to find storage ASAP for my stuff since my sublet fell through. I called to make a reservation and 2 hours later I was bringing my stuff to this place. There was a misunderstanding with my reservation and Patrick and the manager DelRoy took good care of me finding a new locker for my stuff even though they were overbooked. Patrick served me a coffee and helped me through the paperwork and DelRoy helped me move my boxes into the upper locker. I mean - these guys went above and beyond the call of duty. You don't expect this type of professionalism for a storage place, but they are a first class facility hence deserving my 5 star rating. read more

I used MMS recently when working on a project for a client who hired me to get him moved out of his apartment and into storage while he was out of the country on business. I scheduled the Manhattan Mini Storage movers (FOR A VERY REASONABLE FEE) who called, arrived on time, and made the 3-hour window allowed in the terms of our agreement. The movers were courteous and careful and provided excellent service. If you don't need movers then sign up with Manhattan Mini Storage for their FREE service to either meet you at your home or office with a VAN and drop you off at the storage facility. The driver will call you prior to the scheduled window, meet you at the designated location and help you load your cargo into the van. The facility also offers this one-way service from the facility to your home, office or other designated location. I have a business and use MMS when clients need to de-clutter their office or home office of records or furnishings that they need/can't part with.
