Due to Covid-19, like many others I hadn't had a haircut in months and well, let's just say I resorted to box dye for my roots ... so my hair was somewhat of a catastrophe! Skip to the bottom if you want to just know the tidbits about the hair ‍ Once, we moved into phase 2 and salons were allowed to open, I contacted my normal stylist in Puyallup and she seemed a little irritated, intense, and not too enthusiastic about booking clients again. I took this as the universes way of telling me to finally look for a new hairdresser, since I moved to Tukwila 2 years ago it was in theory good timing to find someone closer to home. Apparently, getting an appointment to get your hair done in a pandemic is like finding a golden ticket in a Wonka bar. Needless to say, in the beginning of June I was able to make an appointment at the beginning of JULY at a salon (not MiaBella)! Y'all I did a lot of research bc I have curly, dark, damaged...hair. Thankfully, Yelp led me to a couple close by options! The day my appointment was supposed to happen at 3:30pm, the salon I had made an appointment at called to cancel less than 2-hours before I was suppose to arrive...doesn't matter why, but they didn't think they could get me in until the following week . I was bummed, but I am pretty sure it was for the BEST... I had originally, really wanted try MiaBella in Normandy Park/Burien area and they reached back out with availability after I had booked the other place. When my appointment got cancelled at the other place I seized the opportunity to try out MiaBella, they had great reviews and had recommended Leah! THIS WAS THE BEST OVERALL HAIR EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD SINCE MOVING TO WASHINGTON! First, when I called in a total panic Leah answered the phone! She was super nice, and knew it would be hard to fit me in but did her best... her only open availability for what I wanted was the end of July... but I knew it'd be worth it! She even asked me to send pictures of my hair and what I wanted! You could just tell from the first 5-minutes of the phone convo Leah was going to be awesome! When I showed up for my appointment, I was not disappointed either! Leah was super friendly, it's a family owned salon Leah's mom was super kind as well and it was a totally welcoming environment! The salon was really nice, clean, and COVID-19 safety protocols were in full effect. Now for the important bits... I of course was like, "I need a change, I want to go lighter" Leah gave me great advice, and the best recommendation for MY hair considering the damage a la box dye! Many, stylists will fry your hair further, or not tell you realistic expectations...and at the end you are disappointed. Not here! Leah, was honest about what we could achieve and talked through a plan with me to try and combat my grays. Also, Leah should get 10-stars just for listening to me talk about my dog for 2-hours, and treating me like I actually mattered as a client BUT ALSO Y'ALL my hair came out so PRETTY! My hair felt healthier, looked shinier, and was so soft! Leah was attentive, her customer service was on-point, her hair skills were outstanding, and honestly the pricing was great! However at the time of my service with holly she only had about 3 reviews but I guess I shouldn't have mentioned I'd be leaving a review when asking for the refund. So now I feel inclined to leave my honest review. The salon was not the neatest and the room was messy. The equipment was pretty outdated and this service didn't come with a wash which I was fine with. This was the worst haircut and highlights I've ever had. I was super clear about what I wanted, I asked for only an inch off of the length, some face framing pieces that were chin length and then just a few highlights to lighten up my hair. I was going on a birthday trip that week and also had interviews coming up. I cried when i saw my hair that day. I had to book an appointment last minute with another stylist to hopefully fix what happened. She cut so much off in the front that it looked like a mullet or a bowl cut. The pieces in front were cut so short. This resulted in me having to cut my hair short to fix the choppy pieces. She only put a few highlights on the top and nothing in the back so I had to go over it with box dye and go back to my regular hair color. After I sent her an email with photos of my hair and explaining how I had to get it fixed, She did give me a refund for the Groupon and apologized which I appreciate. I believe she should have paid for me having to go and get it fixed. She was a nice person but I don't understand how a trim and some face framing could get messed up so badly. I truly wish she would have just told me she couldn't do it. I came in with long beautiful hair I'm so disappointed with how my hair looks now. Hours before my scheduled perm, I get a message from Melissa stating the water heater is not working and they are working on it but she needs to reschedule for Thursday. I do not have control over my work schedule and was not able to confirm I would be able to attend on Thursday so I just received a refund. After I returned to work I was able to confirm I could have Thursday off I scheduled a perm again with Melissa Moore because life happens and everybody deserves a second chance right, plus 5 days would have gone by and the water heater issue should be repaired by then. Just mow Wednesday at 5:30pm, I receive a new message from AGAIN Melissa Moore stating that the water heater is not working and she would beed to reschedule for Sunday. I was completely let down by the lack of professionalism and not taking their business seriously. A week passed and the water heater was not fixed. I opted out to cancel my appointment and receive a refund again. And let Melissa know how let down I felt. Mellissa responce to my message was "you are so rude and there is no space for you on my chair do not schedule with me again". That is completely unprofessional and childish. They have 4.9 stars and maybe I was mot meant to experience their service and rate their performance. Good luck to anyone who is trying to become a new client. Customer services is really important to her and a customer satisfaction is her priority. In my opinion and based on the cuts and coloring i have had the best part about visiting Melyssa is: 1) her ability to create beautiful color that matches me 2) her remarkable skill to place my highlights or balayage in a way that the color grows out naturally (I can get away for weeks without going back, it always looks amazing when my hair grows out) 3) amazing haircuts that positively shape my face and even when it grows out it maintains a great shape. Jeff, the owner, had to step in towards the end to help him out, but by then my hair was already beyond recovery. It was significantly shorter than what I requested, but Elmer had to continue to go shorter because he kept messing up the fade. I left the place with a jagged and lopsided fade haircut. I had to go come and shave most of it off. Spent 30 minutes trying to make it look like it wasn't cut by a toddler. Usually I say you get what you pay for. But this place charges $20 for a basic barber cut, which was actually the most expensive haircut I've ever had (being Military there's usually tons of barbers who do an excellent job at a low price).
