    Happy hour menu April 2024

Great place for a quick, filling, reasonably priced lunch! I had not heard of Mandito's before discovering this Tex-Mex delight today. Reviewing the photos on yelp and menu on their website, I knew this place was the place for lunch today. Maybelline was my server and provided great service! I will be back for margaritas soon!

Went for lunch and they have a $10 lunch! (Nov '24) You get two traditional combo choices such as a taco/enchilada. I really was impressed with the ground beef in my taco. It is a flavor I have never tasted in a beef taco anywhere. I love herbs and spices and have no idea what it could be but it was great. I sat at the bar where Adrian was my waiter/bartender and he educated me on tequila vs mezcal. He was great! You get your chips and salsa and the chips are on the thicc side and super crunchy and tasty. The salsa was not too spicy and went well with the chips. If you want a frozen marg, I recommend the blood orange. Ambiance was open with windows spanning the whole wall and outside dining is also offered. PS happy hour starts at 2pm to 6pm.

We live super close to Mandito's and it's has become a great place for us to come with our family! We love their happy hour. They have quite a few appetizers and drink specials that everyone can enjoy. The kids are able to get the quesadillas, which are a hefty serving, and the adults are able to enjoy a cocktail! This last time I tried their seasonal frozen drink which was a pina colada and their burrito bowl. We were able to enjoy the outdoor seating which was great for the kids! The salad hit the spot- fresh ingredients and the chipotle ranch dressing was a perfect pairing. The pina colada was on the sweeter side, so next time I will probably opt for their margarita. The service was a little on the slower side but we were taking our time so we didn't mind! Our server was very sweet and attentive otherwise! We will definitely be coming back. Check this family friendly place out with your crew!

I live in the area and had my eye on this place for a while. I had lunch and dinner plans so I didn't want to eat much but wanted to check it out. This restaurant is very well presented. The lanterns, array of color, the fun tees the servers wear, the furniture...all give an island cultural feel. I sat on the patio and ordered 2 palomas. There are misters on the patio that the staff was testing during my visit. It was odd at first because it was unexpected. It also wasn't terribly hot but I appreciated the concept and I think it will come in handy during the next few Houston months. My Paloma was very well mixed and the presentation (like everything else) was on point. I loved the black salt and my server informed me they have a variety of different salts/rim dressings if I wanted something different. I did not eat, however I was debating queso and decided against it. My server asked if I wanted to taste it so I could know next time if I liked it. Let me be honest here...the queso tasted like melted cheese. There was zero flavor or spice so I was happy I didn't order it. My five star rating is for the ambience and service. Don was my server. He was super attentive and friendly. He asked me my name right away and addressed me by name my entire visit. It felt very personal but not the overstepping kind of personal. I'm on the fence on if I will eat here based on my queso sample and the other reviews but I without a doubt will come back for cocktails.

Tasty and very vegan-friendly. Great guacamole. Great kale tacos. Good homemade corn tortillas.

My brother and I visited this restaurant a few days ago around 2/3 pm. The restaurant was absolutely empty. I ordered a ranch water and it was absolutely perfect. My second ranch water was extremely limey so I ask if it could be remade. This is when my issue came about because Heidi (manager) comes over rudely and says the recipe says half lime juice/half tequila. Ask if I want something else then proceeds to take the drink from my hand. Not to mention she had her daughter (around 4-6 yrs old) in the kitchen which wasn't cool with us. My brother and I decided to cash out due to Heidi's poor customer service as a manager. This is when Makenzie came over and made everything right. Not only did she remake my ranch water which was perfect. She also gave us a gift card for the inconvenience. She chatted with us for a little while which I made us feel better. Makenzie is a great addition to the management team. I was originally leaving 1 stars due to Heidi but thanks Makenzie for making things right.

Exceptional food and service! My family was brought here with my brother & fiancé while visiting from out of town. The service was next level and everything we ate was so fresh & delicious . My favorite part was the refried beans! So unique but absolutely yummy & memorable! The fajita meat was so tender and the chips were excellent. I recently travelled to Los Cabo, Mexico and the chips I had here were very similar and oh so fresh!! I can't wait to return when I visit Houston again! Thank you!

Came here this morning, and it wasn't bad for Tex-mex. The food was good, the service was great. The bartender, David, was amazing & a quite the conversationalist; Gave me lots of information about the drink menu. The vibes were nice, it was pretty empty when I went as you can see and aesthetically pleasing.

I found this place through Yelp as I was working nearby. The place is bright, sleek, and colorful. Bianca was my waitress and she was very nice. I began with chips and salsa. The chips are greasy, but they're good. The salsa serving was generous and one of the best I've tried. Though it was just a few minutes past 2 p.m., I was still able to order a lunch special for $10. You pick two of a few things. I picked a cheese enchilada and Baja slaw. It comes with beans and rice. Here's my disappointment. I'm pescatarian. When I finished the enchilada, I noticed tiny pieces of ground beef. It doesn't state so under the lunch specials. I was highly disappointed. Bianca was really sorry. I had mentioned to her that I don't eat meat. She didn't know the cheese enchiladas contain meat which is a chili gravy. She's new at the restaurant. The Baja slaw was tasteles, and so were the black beans. I really want to like the place. If I'm in the area, maybe I'll try cheese quesadillas or nachos. The outdoor seating has sleek contemporary chairs and will be nice when the Fall arrives.

We usually share and today's meal was no exception. My wife got a small tortilla soup, it was very good but pricy for the size. She also got a glass of iced tea, also good but pricy....are you sensing a reoccuring theme yet? I enjoyed the tres hombres enchiladas, very tasty and pricy, one cheese enchy wit' chili gravy, one chicken wit' salsa verde sauce and one picadillo wit' chili con queso, the sides were very good....twice fried beans and average Mexican rice. The service was good. Nice cutlery, I tend to notice things that make the task at hand more enjoyable.

    Great patio, margs and nachos!

Great patio. Best in the area by far. Love the nachos and margaritas! An undiscovered gem for sure.

    Lavender margarita.

Mandito's is a great place. The ambiance is great. We love sitting outside and have their amazing margaritas.

A strawberry hibiscus margarita and a mezcal margarita!

Service was remarkable and very friendly from the host to the cleaning staff. Food was delicious. I really appreciated the creative flavors that were inspired by authentic Mexican cuisine. Standouts were the guacamole and wagyu carne asada, but everything was fantastic. I loved the Clara cocktail and enjoyed learning about the process to create it. It is clear that there was care and attention behind each menu item. Also, the pace of the food being brought out was evenly paced, which I appreciate, and our server gave us just the right amount of attentiveness. We celebrated my husband's birthday here, and they sent out a tres leches with a candle on it. Very kind and very delicious dessert. Usually not a big fan of tres leches, but this one was not overwhelmingly soaked in condensed milk, and it has a very fresh tasting peach (seasonal) puree drizzled on top. We will most definitely return.

Places closed, lamentably Loma Linda, resulting in only three places that still do the classic Houston style. This historically significant restaurant is a "must" for any aficionado of classic Tex-Mex. For those who don't know me, I had the pleasure of researching and recipe testing for The Tex-Mex Cookbook by Robb Walsh. I maintain a collection of vintage Tex-Mex at Tex-Mex Vintage and Retro Menus and Memorabilia (f**eb**k) that included early menus from Los Tios. Several years ago I wrote this Houston Press review. A Tale of Two Taco Plates Avatar photo HOUSTON PRESS OCTOBER 12, 2008 I recently entertained an out-of-town food writer who had been contracted to write on Tex-Mex in San Antonio and Houston. Although he was very personable and fun to hang out with, I knew of his notoriety of writing really negative reviews about things that others held dear. When we met up he had already sampled Irma's spinach enchiladas, which he liked. I took him to a favorite place for enchiladas, and he wasn't impressed. Over the next day or so he hit 5 different places, none of which he liked, all of which I do. Our last meal was at the original Ninfa's on Navigation for some excellent fajitas and a flan that was so delicious, I had to seek out the recipe on the Web and make it two days later. I really didn't want to be an apologist for Houston Tex-Mex. But his disenchantment got me to thinking how much my appreciation of Houston Tex-Mex is equal parts food, history and restaurant ambiance. And being a non-native, this didn't have much cachet with him (different cultural map I guess). That night at Ninfa's I decided to direct him to check out two upscale Tex-Mex places, places that I know of but never go to, Armando's and Escalante's. Well, he never made it to them so we'll never know. Time to try Escalante's for myself then. I thought it might be fun to compare the crispy tacos at Escalante's and Los Tios, which are basically across the street from each other on Beechnut at Meyerland. Escalante's Taco Plate Escalante's gets a big thumbs-up for atmosphere, friendly service and food presentation. It's a well illuminated (from the ambient light and the interior lighting) restaurant with attractive paintings and memorabilia everywhere. The kind of place one might take an out-of-town food writer. The tacos come in their own cute little stand and the rice and beans are tasty enough. The tacos themselves have a thin shell and are reminiscent of a Taco Bell taco or those grocery store El Paso shells. On the plus side, the taco meat is not overly salty. On the minus side, it's pretty bland and I had to touch them up with some black pepper and hot sauce. With tax and tip my meal came in at $12.50. A similar order of three tacos with rice and beans would be under $5.00 at Taco Bell. Los Tios Taco Plate Los Tios has its own charm. It's a little dark and the interior is very woody. The waitstaff is great there too. Los Tios is one of only two places left in Houston that still make the crispy style tacos that I remember from my youth. To the best of my knowledge they're unique to Houston (please correct me if you've seen them anywhere else) and if I had my way, every Houston restaurant would make these. The trick to making these is that you have to use freshly ground yellow corn masa for your tortilla. When it goes into the hot oil, there's enough moisture to allow for the tortilla to separate and puff up. The taco meat was perfectly seasoned. I ordered two but could have easily downed a dozen of the wonderful little crunch machines. With tax and tip my meal came in under $7.00 for two tacos. I'll be the first to agree that it's not altogether fair to judge Escalante's solely on its tacos. And I would gladly eat there again. But let's face it, Los Tios kicks ass -- Jay Francis

It's a neighborhood staple and has been my family's go to spot when we're in the Meyerland area since 1989! I love the service model of these Tex Mex places, every body always asks if you need something not just the waiter. This go round I had the shrimp enchiladas with charro beans and an Ultimate Margarita. My wife had the #6 Combo with cheese enchiladas, puffy queso, and crispy taco. Shrimp Enchiladas are my usual order and it was great as always. The shrimp were crisp and fresh not rubbery or overcooked and the cream sauce and melted cheese on top was rich and flavorful. The Ultimate Margarita was amazing, not too tequila forward and didn't taste like premade mix. My wife loved the puffy queso and cheese enchiladas, I ate her taco and finished off the rest of her plate too. My final note, visit these old school tex mex places while you can because one day they'll be gone, or worse open a trendy rebrand. Then all that's left will be huge corporate chains like Gringo's.
