My fiance and I wandered into Zales, took a look at a tiny selection of men's rings and the tacky selection of engagement rings while being ignored by the staff, and hightailed it out of there. I'm glad we did...across the corridor were Leo and Ruby at Mandarin Gems, who were kind and thoughtful, and took us step by step through the process of buying and resizing a wedding band and cleaning, repairing, and resizing two antique, heirloom rings from the 40s. We got an amazing price for multiple services, and got an in-depth lesson on how to recognize the individual markings of your diamond. The best part: we needed the ring within four days, and not only did Leo rush the order free of charge, he had our rings ready a day early. In three days and within a small budget, Leo stretched and cleaned the new wedding band (also free of charge) for my fiance, and added diamond chips, repaired the settings, resized and cleaned my engagement and wedding band. We had complete confidence in Leo, and he really took care of precious heirlooms that have been in the family for decades - they came out shiny and brand new. I have to say for being in the mall I was blown away by the customer service and quality of work done here! My Fiance had my ring designed from scratch, which meant the owner had to make a mold and make the ring himself. He sat with us for a long time to make sure the ring was exactly what I wanted, he even sent my fiance a computer generated picture to approve before he made the mold to make the ring. He was able to do all of this and have the ring ready within 3 weeks which was a week sooner then he said he could get it done by. He made us feel very special and said no one else would have a ring like mine and even threw out the mold afterwards. The ring is amazing!!! Even better then I thought it was going to be. I was referred to Mandarin Gems by a friend, and I'm glad I decided to brave the drive up to Burbank to check it out. I was pretty sure that I wanted to make a custom engagement ring, and Emilie and Leo convinced me that they'd work with me to create the ring. They were both very nice, friendly, and not pushy at all. I worked with Leo throughout the whole process. Leo took my initial drawings and ideas and would show me a design. We went back and forth a few times, as I'd make comments and ask for certain tweaks. Ruby She - is her name!!!! Went in for a few questions and canvassing for a 14k gold wedding band sz 4 1/2 , and at first when I walked in ~I had to say hello , cuz no one had greeted me coming in to welcome a customer. So this lady name Ruby, ask if I needed anything ? At first I asked politely if they had a diamond tester. She goes, we don't do that kind'a services, we only do an appraisal and there is a fee. Then she goes, if you want you can go to Zales maybe they could help you. So I said, okay~then I ask if they have any wedding band in gold. She stood up and helped me, I saw a 6MM wide ring that I liked and asked her how much? tag $ amount was 780 , then I ask how much would it cost me on my size 4 1/2 ? she said around $560 plus tax. Then I said, it's the best price you can do? Then Ruby ask me this question, "How are you going to pay for it"? I then said, so appalled, it would be my own business on how am going to pay for it . First, I needed to know if you can reach my price. Then she tucked all the jewelry and stood up, and said ( btw, this is how she re-acted as she's no longer interested of helping me) while I was not even done yet. Ruby is very RUDE !!! all I wanted to do is make a deal put a half deposit then buy the ring . While I was walking out, I even asked her who is her boss? And If I could talk to him and make a deal? Then she goes, We'll he's on the phone, and I said we'll I could wait for him. But she decided to just walked away and tucked all the jewelry and decided she will not sell any jewelry that day! I said, you guys are rude, and not nice to customers! Insults! and poor communication!! But, I guess they don't want to make any money , they INSULT THEIR CUSTOMERS, they are not very nice!!! and they don't trust you!! We had a fantastic experience with Mandarin Gems! My fiance and I did all of our homework regarding what size, shape, and quality of diamond we wanted and the style of the setting, which frankly was really vague. After our research, we ventured out to the diamond-buying world and were very, very disappointed. The mainstream places were not really willing to work with us on what we wanted... which was a oval diamond in an usual/self-designed setting for a fair price. Zales, for example, told me: "the only thing your girlfriends will notice when you compare rings is the color, so that's obviously more important." Seriously. Needless to say, when we found Mandarin Gems, we were very, very pleasantly surprised. We worked with a woman named Emily, who was able to quote us prices that matched the research we had done without the "well, we're going to give you a 50% discount just because we like you, but normally, it's twice as much" run around. They brought in oval diamonds for us to look at, they custom made our setting, and they wanted to give us the ring WE wanted, not the ring they could sell us, throughout the entire process. Very disappointed in this place. My husband usually works with a jeweler we have known for years. One day he decided to venture into Mandarin Gems. He ended up purchasing a pair of beautiful ruby earrings surrounded by diamonds as a gift for me. He paid over $2000.00. When the backing broke we took them in to get fixed under the "warranty" and they wanted to charge $55.00 to repair them. When the woman saw we were perturbed she said ok I'll charge you $35.00 because you bought them here. What a joke--such bad business. Our jeweler will guarantee and fix any piece we buy from her for free-that's what good business people do, especially when you are spending that type of money. Do not buy rings from Sears! They only have one size 7. They make you buy the warranty so you have to send it in to have it sized. My husband purchased the ring on 12/21/2018 and I took it back to have it sized to 8. FINALLY got it back on 2\16\2018. It took 2 months before the ring was ready. I called weekly and they would say things are backed up because of the holiday. I called on a Friday 2/9/2018 and they said it would be in on Tuesday 2\13\2018. Well I didn't get a call until the following Friday 2\16\2018. I have had the ring for one week, and Now a diamond has fallen out. I called and said I want to return the ring. They said once you have the ring sized you cannot return the item. First of all they only carry one size so they make you size it for this reason, and they keep it forever. Without any calls or concerns or updates. The manager Milen needs lot more training on customer service. Unacceptable on how she was dealing with me!!! NEVER NEVER buy a ring from Sears.
