Huge letdown after eating there over the years when visiting Green Bay. Obviously the ownership change was a big downgrade in all phases of the experience- server was taking care of at least 8 tables when i was there- so, very slow service a result. Ordered hot tea- absolutely zero flavor and no sugar on table to add to it! Egg rolls very greasy and just lacked any flavor- won ton soup equally flavorless. Chicken with peapods the final topper to an awful dining experience! Sorry but this place won't last- not with all the dining options there now and more sure to come as Green Bay grows & grows! 2 stars only because i didn't get sick afterwards!!! read more

This restaurant has excellent (and pretty authentic) Chinese food. I've enjoyed some of the best hot-and-sour soup I've had in a long time here. Their salt & pepper shrimp and scallops had fresh seafood perfectly cooked and seasoned. Mu-shu pork was a standout and their twice-cooked pork was delicious. We had a party of three and arrives about 6:30 this past Saturday. We were seated quickly and ended up ordering a poo poo tray for three and an order of potstickers as our appetizer. Also ordered was a seafood dish which was supposed to be spicy along with general tso chicken also indicated spicy and shrimp lo mean. Food was good but not great. The spicy dishes lacked the heat and flavor it should have had. Lo mein was good. The seafood dish, the scallops were over cooked. We were horrified as a server started to vacuum around a table very close to our table. Nice and efficient server. read more

This one is tough to post. I've been going here since I was a kid, and I was devastated to learn that it was planning to close. So, when I heard that it found new ownership, I was hopeful that things would stay the same. Unfortunately, they have not. The food was not good, and even though they kept some of the popular items on the menu, they clearly haven't been able to keep the same quality. The dishes were bland, oily, and overall left us feeling somewhat unwell. The portions are noticeably smaller, despite the prices remaining the same, or in some cases, raised. The service is rough too--it took well over an hour for us to get our food, and we only ordered two items. There are numerous places in the area that are far better and more authentic. I think I should have just stayed away from the new ownership and enjoyed the memories of the past. I hope, for everyone's sake, that they're able to turn things around and keep this place alive. My husband and I had a great dinning experience. The staff was very nice and caring. The food was great. Just sad that it took us this long to try them. Food excellent Service: I received the incorrect order thru door dash last weekend and was told by one of the Mandarin Garden staff that the correct order would be sent. I was waiting specifically for the vegetarian items. When door dash called me I told them also that I still wanted my original order. The correct order was never delivered and my emails and messages have not been responded to. I was told to keep the wrong order, but all of those items contained meat or seafood. Door dash was kind enough to refund the cost, but that did not feed my vegetarian diners. read more

Unexpectedly good! If you order the right thing of course. I think it's a hit or miss but overall flavor is there. Decor fits well, service was great. Sort of romantic dim lighting and lots to choose from. Pictures would be great on the menu but do you best to pick something you're familiar with. Ordered take out, pork lo mein and beef rice noodles which we thought was going to be a beef chow fun. Overall, these meals were very noodle-heavy and had very little portions of meat, veggies and aromatics. The lo mein was not the usual egg noodles but the noodle used was more of a pasta/spaghetti kind. The taste is tolerable and not horrendous, thus the 2 stars. Restaurants come and go, but Mandarin Garden has been in Green Bay for over 30 years! It's been a while since I've been here, and I remember it being really good...my recent experience was not super stellar, but still a positive experience. Came here for lunch with a friend. I had no problem with the service. We were seated immediately, our service was nice and courteous, and he checked on us when needed. Only odd part was he gave me my food first, and then brought my friend's food out two minutes later. Not sure why he didn't bring both out at the same time. They have a pretty decent lunch special; all of them hovering around $10 which included your entree, soup, rice, and depending on the day either a crab rangoon or an egg roll. I ordered chicken with broccoli. It was alright, but nothing exciting. The vegetables didn't taste very fresh, and the chicken was blah. It wasn't terrible. The portion sizes were perfect for a lunch meal. I've gotten more and fresher Chinese food for less. I would go again, but I'm in no rush, especially when there are plenty of other options. read more

Stopped here for lunch with a group of 6. We were quickly seated. The table was already set with an snack and sauces for us. The waitress served us drinks, and we ordered from the lunch menu. Two from our group made special requests which were happily accepted by the waitress. Soup was included with our lunch and was served very shortly after ordering. Our food arrived shortly after. It's been a hot minute since we had Chinese so my husband and I decided to give Mandarin Garden a whirl. We went on a Saturday night and to our surprise and pleasure, got seated right away. The restaurant is set up in a circular way, where the kitchen is in the center and the dining area surrounds it (along with a small, maybe 4 seat bar at the entrance). Pretty cool. It's an obviously older building (as are a lot of places in Green Bay) but it was clean and decorated like a typical Asian restaurant so it was all good. We were immediately given water and menus and decided on sweet & sour pork (husband) and sesame chicken (me), both of which came with white rice only - no soup, no egg rolls, nada. We inquired about substituting the white rice for fried rice (fully expecting and offering to pay extra for it) but were told that it's not an option; we would have to order a full plate entree of fried rice. Hard pass cause 1. we didn't want a full order; that's just too much food, and 2. i wasn't trying to pay $12.50 for some fried rice. We asked for a half order of egg rolls since those didn't come with the dinner either (a pattern is emerging here, no?). Those came out pretty quickly and were delicious paired with the sweet & sour sauce on the side. Our white rice came out next piping hot in a covered rice bowl. After about 10 minutes (15-20 minutes since we placed our orders now, mind you), our server told us they were out of sweet & sour pork. Wait...what? Husband decided on sweet & sour chicken instead. We got our food shortly thereafter and it was decent. Definitely not bad, but I can think of about 4 other Chinese restaurants that do it better. We left satisfied but pretty underwhelmed. Our server was very kind and apologetic about things. She did an excellent job. While there, two other tables surrounding us had issues as well: It seems that the kitchen forgot part of an order and that table got served their fried rice long after they had already finished all their other food. We overheard who we thought was the manager apologizing profusely and telling them she would take it off their bill and asked if they'd like to take it to go. They declined as they were staying in a hotel and had no place to put it. Doh! The other table near us had an issue similar to ours in that one of the items they ordered was not available either. It was something different than what we ordered so...really, Mandarin Garden? You're out of at least TWO entrees on a Saturday night? Huh? My 3 stars is due to a few different things: the inability to substitute the rice (how easy/profitable would it be to do that?), the fact that no soup/egg roll/rangoon came with the dinner (i've NEVER been to a chinese spot that didn't include at the very least egg drop soup with the meal), the unavailability of the sweet & sour pork (borderline unforgivable) and lastly, the cost. Two egg rolls and two entrees coming in at $40 is just a bit much in my book. We didn't even get drinks! The value just wasn't there but I will say this: we'll be back! I never, ever, ever write off a restaurant after one try. Next time we'll go with the family style dinner where you get everything and probably pay the same (or less?) that getting it all a la carte. Just don't go runnin' out of sweet & sour pork, y'all! Stay tuned! read more

I think this place has beeb around for 32 years. That says something. Sure it's old and somewhat rundown, but the cheerful hostess and waitress lightened the overall mood. Most diners looked to be retired and late lunch regulars. Altho the lunch special fit one plate, many took home "go bags". I found my dish, Moo Goo Gai Pan with fried rice, win ton soup, and crab won tons, to be very generous. The price was $8.99 plus $1 hot tea. More than fair. My dish was delicious but slightly salty. But that grew on me when the combined bite included the rice. When in Green Bay with time on my hands, I'll go back. Very comfortable for dining alone, too. read more

We spent 42 dollars and some change. When the order was delivered and I saw that we had no sauces or soy and nothing to eat with I called the restaurant. The woman was rude and gave me 5 different excuses as to why. She was not willing to make things right, not even to have someone bring over silverware. We went down to the hotel front desk and asked for plates and silverware. The food had no flavor. I am so mad and highly disappointed that we spent $42 dollars on a meal that we couldn't even eat. I'll bet this is the best Chinese place in Green Bay, because it'd be a darn good one in most towns. Went there on "date night," dinner and a movie during a snowstorm. We really needed a good meal at that point, and this place took care of us. We were treated like regulars (of which there seem to be plenty.) We had the "favorite dinner," one of the shared options. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon, a soup (you both have to get the same kind,) and your choice of any entree. Sweetie had garlic chicken (I think...) and I had my standby Mongolian beef. I like it, and most places have it so it makes for a good comparison. The appetizers were good, not great; clearly made fresh, not from a box. The soup was very good- we chose wonton. She enjoyed the chicken, and I liked the beef. Portions were large enough that we had some for lunch the next day. I'll keep this in mind for the next time I'm up. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for more then 20 years. I am pleasantly surprised that the food (over 20 years) has been sooooooo consistently good. Service is friendly and not intrusive, the food comes very fast, is piping hot, never overcooked, and always flavorful. This is my very favorite place for Chinese in the city and I love it that they don't have a buffet. read more

When you first get there it's intriguing the way they have set up their restaurant in a circle. The problems start with the menu. Its overpriced and bland. You will only be disappointed after sitting for a good minute and then getting flavorless food. I waited 45 minutes for my general tso's chicken. Anyone else in Green Bay could have it for you in 10 minutes. The food does not taste good at all. I don't know who the chef is but it's time to look for a different specialty. I went in with high hopes due to reviews. I was not let down per say but it was nothing special. The hunan chicken was spicy and had nice chunks of veggies to pair over the rice. This was the only thing I liked from our meal. The Three Ingredients was lackluster and really lacked any flavor at all. The crab ragoons were good but nothing outstanding or special. At the start of the 20 minute delivery window the restaurant provided, my husband received a text that our order was canceled. No reason or explanation given. We have not eaten the food here and likely never will because of this ordering debacle. Staff was really nice. Price was a little high. Had same meal couple weeks ago it was about $12.00 less. No price isn't an issue if the food is amazing. First off This is the first place that puts sprouts in fried rice. It was unique not bad but would get rid of it. It gives it a weird taste. The sweet and sour sauce looked old and Discolored meaning it had sat in the freezer for a long time. I was not going to try it. Whole family said it was ok but not bad. I will try agin in another six months to see if anything has chanced. I recommend not getting expensive meals on the menu. Crab Rangoon was really good I recommend that. read more

Been there twice. Both times great food and service. The only two things I'd complain about is there is no crab at all in the crab Rangoon and there were way more onions in the Mongolian chicken than chicken. Other than that, everything we've had has been really tasty! read more
