I'm from Lebanon, and the food is not Lebanese or Mediterranean or any other kind, I think they make there own recipes that are not related to any culture. And WHY THE €8 for bread we did not ask for and the €9 service fee, ARE YOU F KIDDING ME. It sucks, but I paid so we don't get into an argument with the owner as he was on Facebook reading all the bad reviews. Great Lebanese food! We had the Arak drinks which were delicious and strong. We had a mezza and grilled chicken which were delicious

We started off with their shisha which is €18, not too bad for Rome. However the quality of the coal is horrible, a group of 3 of us were only able to smoke for 20 minutes before it burnt. The food is SO delicious! We had the hummus and beef shwarma and they were both made absolutely perfect. The service is fast and good as well. read more

I walked by this location several times via route to the Spanish Steps from my hotel. Each late evening the street side dinning would be busy. They open late so we arrived after 10:30 pm after enjoying a siesta. We started off with humus which was outstanding and I followed with the mixed combo plate - rice, lamb, chicken and kefta which was excellent. Disappointing one, this. Sometimes you pay excessively for a location, but you don't really mind. Other times the extra cost just sours what has already been a mediocre experience. This was the latter case. Mandaloun is located in a pretty street just off Via Veneto, Rome's luxury hotel district. In fact, I think we were the only locals dining here, managing to bag a pretty outside table on the quiet street. Specialising in Lebanese food, we were offered bread with olives and sour cream while waiting for our order. Starting with an absolutely fine but standard mixed mezze, featuring hummus, babba ganoush and tabbouleh, the drinks took ages to arrive, and in my case, was a fairly average industrial 33cl beer which had been advertised as a specialist beer from Lebanon. The mixed mezze costs around 22 euros in two, which is a lot considering the cost of the ingredients, but the taste was good so it wasn't a problem. For my main course, I selected a lamb shank with rice combined with pine-nuts that cost €18. This was pretty disappointing. The lamb was well cooked and to my taste, although slightly subtle in flavour for another member of our party. The rice was seriously overcooked with that unpleasant, crumbly texture and no taste at all. I decided not to order anything else after this disappointing meal, but other diners in my party ordered mint tea to complete the meal. This turned out to be a cheap, ceramic pot containing Lipton black tea bags with a few straggles of fresh mint. For those of you who have spent any time in Italy, you'll know that finding good tea can be tricky but not impossible. A restaurant like this should be serving genuine mint infusions, if not entirely made from fresh mint, then sourcing quality dried tea-bags. Sorry, but this was an absolute disgrace. Lipton is the cheapest and poorest supermarket brand of tea, and I would have been livid if I'd ordered this as there's no way I would want to be drinking black tea in any case at midnight. Just totally wrong and a symbol of the cheapness of this place which pretends five star prices for careless cooking and essentially basic ingredients. The bill? €40 per head. Wow. This food was so authentic & delicious. It reminds me of the food back home. Funny enough, I met someone from my home town here who said the same thing (she's Lebanese). This place may just get a bad rap because they don't have belly dancers & entertainment, but their food is incredible. read more

Found this restaurant a bit by accident as we were not specifically looking for a Lebanese establishment. Glad we noticed the street sign across from our hotel. Went without expectations and were very pleasantly surprised. Very nice decor inside. Main dining room on lower level from street level. Good selection of authentic Lebanese/Turkish items. Dining with another couple so we had a variety of menu items. All had very nice taste profiles. I particularly liked the Spicy Salad. Our server was very nice and helpful to us in explaining several menu items. Would recommend them if your in the mood for this type of food. read more

This was my second time visiting Roma and after having an overload of pasta and pizza I wanted Lebanese food so I found this place. I was so impressed! The hookah was amazing... it lasted 3 hours without even burning once!! Very good price.. everywhere else in Italy is expensive for hookah. The food was amazing! Everything freshly cooked and well seasoned. The owner and his staff give welcoming and great customer service. I recommend the chicken tawouk, fattoush salad and baba ganoush! I loved the food and ambiance so much I came twice during my 4 day stay in Roma! Please check it out.. you won't regret it. read more

I found Mandaloun on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I loved it right away, honestly not for the hookah nor the food; but for the amazing staff they have, very friendly and welcoming. I like their hookah although they don't have a lot of flavors, just the basics, no mixes. I am not sure about the price but its around 15€. They play classic Arabic music, which is my favorite so they gave me another reason to go back. read more

First of all I was going to smoke shisha over here, but it appeared to be a good dinner spot. Tabule salad for the beginning, lentil soup with croutons for the main course and beef shawarma with rice for the end of the dinner. It was awesome. If you love mid-east and Lebanese food, this place is worth to visit. As for the shisha. There were only three smells: double apple, grape & grape with mint which I choose. Shisha was ok, but they made it with crappy fast start coal which is bad. Go in here for the food and then go for the shisha to the "Shisha" place. read more

Great hookah, but lack of flavors. This is a review of the hookah alone, not the food. We did not eat here, although based on our experience it would be worth to go back to for food and/or shisha. My friend and I arrived here around 10pm on a Wednesday, of course the exact time when 10 typically loud American college students arrived (although I am in that category of an American student, I do not associate myself with such obnoxious individuals). Luckily they sat outside, but the worker of the establishment changed the authentic Lebanese music to modern music from the US for the group of girls. This was a little disappointing because that was half of the ambiance! The place was very nice and well decorated in the Arabian style. Even though the couch wasn't the most comfortable, it was still relaxing and well furnished with pillows. There were not many people here aside from two smaller groups and the bigger group. There was plenty of room. My friend and I ordered the apple flavored hookah for 12 euros. The only two possible choices for flavor were grape and apple. It didn't even taste like apple. If anything it tasted like licorice, which I liked, but you barely even tasted a flavor unless you really breathed it in deep. Besides that, out of the four times I have done hookah, this was the best. It was quality with nice smooth, thick smoke. I didn't cough once; there was no harshness and my throat didn't hurt at all. The worker was nice and helped us with whatever we asked, but he never changed our coals. Given we didn't ask, but apparently they should automatically do that. It still lasted for quite awhile; we were there for about two hours. My friend ordered a drink for 6 euros which she enjoyed. It was a nice relaxing night after a busy day sightseeing in Rome. And it was nice when he changed the music back to Lebanese when the college kids left. Overall, if you want quality hookah with thick, easy smoke, this is the place to go, but if you're looking for flavor this is not the place. read more

I don't smoke shisha and I went there on a Sunday lunch time, bad idea ! The beef shawarma is really not fresh, and has no taste, was not even warmed up in a microwave, we ordered three different dishes and they all lacked flavor. The food presentation was not appealing at all, and above all the price is higher then similar restaurants in the area. This Lebanese restaurant serves delicious food. Not sure they have low ratings. The chicken was tender, juicy, flavorful, and the lamb was simply delicious. This restaurant have us a reprieve from Italian food, which we have been eating 8 days strait. Great food! read more

Absolutely shocking. I have dined around the world, from fast food to Michelin star establishments, but I am no food snob. I thought I would take a risk and order here to go. The food was packaged in aluminum containers with plastic wrap placed on top of hot soups, etc. and then covered by a top. The plastic melted into all the food. There was next to no vegetables and zero chickpeas in the food. The flavor was overwhelmed with lemon and otherwise totally lacking. I kid you not, the pita bread smelled like socks. Unexplainable and unjustifiable. Presently, I am suffering stomach cramps from whatever it is that they served us. Highly regrettable. Never again. read more

We were excited for a little something different on our last night in Rome. While we were aware of the negative reviews, we decided to give Mandaloun a chance because the restaurant was close to our hotel, and we love Lebanese food. We arrived fairly early (18:30ish). There were a few groups smoking/eating outside, but we were just planning to eat with our 2 children, so we got a table inside, downstairs. We were the only patrons. We were given menus upon being seated, but then no one ever came back...not to offer water, not to ask for a drink order...nothing! The waiters were chatting in a corner, working behind the bar, going up and down the stairs to serve those outside, but we waited and waited and waited and were completely ignored. Finally, we got the message and left. We passed several waiters on the way out and not a single one said a word to us. It was an absolutely bizarre experience and disappointing to say the least. read more

Though their food was delicious, I would not recommend this restaurant because of their lying and sneaky ways of stealing more money from their customers. For a 5.5 euro meal, I paid 4.6 euros in service fees. This is not right. I'm sorry but no restaurants deserve 84% service fee... especially the awful service we had with one waitress for 8 tables and extremely slow service. I was going to give it a higher rating but the experience of getting ripped off and lied to outweighs the good food. Just a warning for all that YOU WILL BE CHARGED TWICE FOR SERVICE FEE AND FAKE/HIGHER PRICES ON THE BILL. Make sure you check your bill... On the menu, it said that service fee was not included so we knew to plan for service fee in addition to what we ordered. But when the bill came, there was a "Pane & Coperta" which Coperta is usually the cover charge but at the end of the bill, there was also a "Service 10%". So per person, it was an additional 3 euros (minimum). First of all, why would it be 10% service charge on top of coperta?? They charge everyone twice for service. Doesn't make sense. Also, I saw on the menu that a 750ml bottle of water was 2.50 euros but when the bill came, they charged 3 euros per bottle. I asked the waitress about the service charge and she couldn't explain it and just said it was the manager's decision and the manager was not present. I also asked her about the water and said that I think I saw that it was 2.50 euros on the menu and she didn't even check, she just told me that I was wrong and it was 3 euros. I checked on their online menu just now because I know I saw on the menu at the restaurant was 2.50 and IT WAS 2.50 euros, even on their online menu. Waitress is a liar. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE RESTAURANTS THAT TRY TO RIP OFF TOURISTS. read more
