Located in the Monteverde area, this small restaurant with Middle Eastern flavor is among Rome's…read morehidden gems. Everything rotates around the Mezés, fixed price entries that go from a delicious hummus, to tzatziki, a delicious yogurt cheese, a vegetables cream and the awesome "frittelle di zia Esterina". There's also an option for happy hour to enjoy a glass of wine and one mezè for just €7. After this round of entries here are the main courses: my Jerusalem's filled chicken with rice, pine seeds and cinnamon was amazing, but they serve also a shawarma plate, a good beef, cous cous and some pasta dishes. At the end a good glass of sweet Sicilian zibibbo wine and a delicious Libanese cannolo... It's been a bit pricey, but worth it.

So, we've just been there in this hot sunday evening, as everything else was closed in the area (we…read morelive close by). I must say that I was not satisfied. A pita bread turned out to be a standard bun (seemed industrial to me). The cutlets seemed like they had been taken out of a supermarket. Then we had a vegetable cous-cous and a "baccalà alla romana". The cous-cous came in a tiny plate and had only a few vegetables in it. It must have cost less than 1 euro to make, and was priced 8 euros on the menu. The baccalà had the sauce which was almost raw, practically uncooked, with random raisins and pine nuts thrown in, and a couple of olives which did not mix at all, giving the experience of a dish prepared by arranging a few ingredients with no binding whatsoever among them. A bit pricey, too, given the quality.

The waitress gave us the menu and after…read morewe had looked at it for fifteen minutes and tried to order several main dishes she said, "actually today we only have beef and chicken kebab and felafel." Okay! So... The beef and chicken kebab were both quite tasty - though the beef was a bit tough. The felafel was interesting. My wife's favorite was some spicy peppers that the owner brought out just for her. They looked like green string beans but had the heat of a jalapeño. I had ordered an appetizer but it never did show up. Due to the language barrier it could have been one of the things that wasn't available today. Oh well. Overall good experience.

Accompanied by fellow yelpers, we head for this "posh" kebab joint, distinguished by three spit-roast doner options - beef, chicken and vegetarian. The interior is swankier than your average kebab shop, with a room on the side featuring table-clothed tables, charming prints and a collection of fezes (can't resist a fez). We start with a plate of falafel to share, 6 pieces for a good value €5, and a plate of mixed antipasti for €8. The baba ganoush and hummus are pretty good, and there are also creamed zucchini, beans and potato puree. We all order kebab on the plate, a portion of seasoned beef, chicken or a vegetarian option dressed with a little bit of salad. This is "make your own" kebab time, with unleavened slices of pitta-style bread and salsas to share. Pity they only bring 2 spoons for the four salsas - they're soon all mixed together. And for a group of five people, they run out immediately so we request more. Overall the impression is good and the food is tasty, although I do prefer a lamb kebab. The main dishes are also quite pricey at €12 each although the kebab meat is good quality. The five of us pay €16 a head, after sharing two bottles of water as well, and go away full and pretty satisfied.
