I'm so happy to be able to award this place five stars after taking a little bit of time to check it out. It's a Thursday night and I'm eating in the company of other Yelpers; there are ten of us and the restaurant is full, so we strain the wait staff with our requests (they could probably have done with other team member and seem slightly overwhelmed). Service aside, everything else is perfect. The starters comprise top-of-the-range Middle Eastern-style mezze, with hummus, baba ganoush, stuffed vine leaves and potato puree; we add yoghurt with cucumber and mint and dressed olives. The main courses are either a choice between over roast meats and fragrant rice, grilled meat platters, or interesting stews. I really enjoyed my roast chicken with fragrant rice, flavoured with orange as well as nuts and spices, and one of my dinner companions had a really tasty looking beef stew with pomegranate juice and walnuts. There wasn't a lot of choice on the drinks menu, but we were brought a light, crisp craft ale and persian tea. I didn't have dessert as I couldn't manage another thing but I understand that they are tasty, with a nod to Greek sweets, for those of you that don't know Persian cuisine. Taberna Persiana is a truly authentic Persian restaurant and experience. My wife and I visited this restaurant during our week long stay here in Rome as I've been craving Persian food for the past few weeks. My wife and I are both Persian and have access to some of the best Persian food in the world in Los Angeles so we weren't sure what to expect. We were both very pleasantly surprised with how delicious and authentic the food is here. We ordered the Mirza ghasemi, Masto mooseer (yogurt with shallots), jujeh (chicken) kabob, khoobedeh (ground beef and lamb) kabob, doogh, tea, and baklava. All of it tasted exactly as it should. I don't like to put negative reviews, but ai would be dishonest if I do not so. Please note that this has only be my experience and it may be different from others. I tried the kabobs, but unfortunately the quality of the meat was not good and both the kabob barg and the kabob kubideh were hard and over cooked. The kabob barg was not filet mignon and it's completely different from the kabobs we eat in Iran. The ghormeh Sabzi was also so so. It was pre frozen and I could hardly find any red beans in the food. I have tried much better ghormeh Sabzi in the other European countries and US. The portion of the rice was small and unfortunately, the restaurant had adopted a lot of cheap European mentalities in serving their food. The tea was hot enough and made with samavar, but unfortunately the tea was pure color and had no flavors. The staff was very nice and helpful, but unfortunately, I don't think they understand the concept of Persian Cousin. Hopefully, they will consider these comments and address the issues to serve and represent the proper Persian food in Rome. read more

What are the odds of walking in Rome and coming accross a great persian restaurant? I tried the "koofte" as the appetizer which was amazing and full of flavor!(as a child I never liked it as I thought it would taste bland). koobideh and barg tasted wonderful and authentic.
