Excellent coffee. Easily in my top five Melbourne coffees. The actual bagels are great. No eggs on the menu is a bold move for any Melbourne breakfast establishment. We tried three different bagel combos, and none of them really quite cut it. The flavors were all a bit bland, or didn't quite come together. If you're desperate for something different, this is an interesting diversion from your typical weekend brunch, but I would rather go and get a bagel with butter or peanut butter and a latte. Location was nice, clean, comfortable, and service was good. It can get quite crowded so for the best seating go early. read more

Looking for somewhere awesome to go for brunch my sister and I decided to try Manchester press after hearing that they do really good bagels and this was definitely confirmed. We had the pulled pork and the bacon and avocado one both of which were delicious and came with a little side salad. We also tried the juice of the day apple strawberry and mint which was perfectly fruity and fresh. Cool industrial vibe going on decor wise this place was a lot busier than I expected it to be being hidden down a lane but well worth the wait if you end up on the waiting list. Like most of the coffee shops here there is an excessive adherence to what I'll call "warehouse chic" that I can't get behind. I'm not trying to be harsh, just commenting on the similarities between what I expect are 'counter-culture' institutions. Bare bulbs, unfinished paint jobs, up-cycled tables and chairs abound. Anyway, we came to Manchester because they had bagels and we were served bagels but as New Yorkers, we've had better. Its not so much the bagels fault. The bagel, what we could taste of it from under the condiments, were tasty! It had the right balance of heft and lightness. It was the right size, color, and temperature. It was just let down by the restaurant. I ordered a fruit and nut bagel with mixed berry marscapone and strawberries while my partner had a poppy seed bagel with peanut butter. Why can't they just stock regular cream cheese?!? Why did the only cream cheese have to be DILL?!?! We got over the severe cream cheese issue and made our orders but mine came with too much marscapone (literally set 1/3 of it aside on my plate) and C was just sad. Seriously, liberate the bagel, give us out-of-towners some cream cheese, and you'll get 5 stars. Promise. read more

What a typically Melbourne little bagel spot. In a laneway off Little Bourke St, we wandered over with my sister's sole intention of trying the rainbow bagel. And boy it did not disappoint. With perhaps an overload of matcha mascarpone topped with Persian fairy floss it really was a sight to behold. The bagel itself was plain, so there was no overpowering sweetness and made it a perfect breakfast treat. Being lactose and gluten intolerant, I was so pleased to see there were so many options catering for those dietary requirements as well as vegetarians and vegans. My open grilled chorizo gluten free bagel was such a delicious experience, not your stereotypical gluten free bread experience. A beautifully crusty and toasted outside, soft and chewy inside had I not known it was gluten free I never would have guessed! The chorizo had a little kick and wasn't too salty, the roasted red capsicum, spinach and goats cheese to balance out the flavours and a side of fabulous little pickles that had me wanting more! And I'm usually not a pickle girl...check this place out, you won't be let down. read more

Coffee was great, freshly squeezed OJ was delicious. Food menu was lacking. To me this is a lunch venue NOT a breakfast venue. Only had sweet items on their new "Breakfast" menu. My husband and I were going to leave to get breakfast elsewhere but decided we'd heard such good things we'd stay. BIG MISTAKE! He got the Bacon and Banana Bagel, it was fine but sweet. I got the Rainbow bagel, I had half a bite and didn't touch the rest. Think the words I used were "to call this food is a crime". Absolutely horrendous, stay clear of it at all costs.
