I have eaten here for years but today changed everything. They have a new Point of Sale (POS) but the acronym of pos better describes the transaction. I went to give a tip and it added to my tip which surprised me. I asked why and they said credit cards add 3.5% to my order. I said cancel it and I would pay cash. They could not cancel the order. I said they needed to inform the customer before they pay and the response was "we don't charge you the fee". I don't mind paying a fee but I want to know options before and not after. May have to start going to 1 of the other 6 taco shops in Alpine read more

Honestly the customer service here is such trash. I walked in and the guy at the front didn't even say hello. He glanced up from his phone for a second when I walked in and then looked back down. I had to say hello and tell him I was ready to order. He took my order and told me the total. The only time he looked at me was when it asked for a tip. Not gonna lie I felt obligated to leave him a tip because he was watching me and I completely regret it. When my order was ready he just said my order and that's it. No "thank you" or "have a good day" or "enjoy". I was the one that said thank you and have a good day and walked out. Have better customer service especially being in a small town. Maybe take some lessons from your fellow peeps in the El Cajon location because they actually make you feel appreciated as a customer. read more

This place was great for my breakfast as I passed through Alpine! I got the omelette rancheros! It was incredible! The sour cream and salads were put fresh on the side and all cold in the to go box. Easily the best taco shop around Alpine, they have a great menu and I've yet to be disappointed. My favorite thing on the menu is the deluxe quesadilla with shredded beef, next would be their wet burritos. The last three times my family and I have eaten here it hasn't been very good at all. Rolled tacos were mostly tortilla; hardly any meat inside the tacos. Deluxe quesadilla was so soggy due to the overly juicy meat inside, it was gross. Beef taco shell was so overly fried it hurt my mouth to bite it. Wet chicken burrito sauce was nothing to be desired. Tasted almost like they poured plain tomato sauce over it :( Service hasn't been that good either. One time they served one us the wrong food and tonight everyone but my husband received their food. My husband didn't get his until all but one of us was done eating, yet the people who sat down several minutes after us got their food before my husband did. I had to go check on it... No sorry or anything! Completely unsatisfactory. They also are not good about keeping their tables cleaned. By far one of the worst Mexican food places I've ever been to. Service is nonexistent. I ordered guacamole and after 3 hours in the fridge it was black. How old that guacamole was?! I got a shrimp burrito and let me tell you. It had 3 SHRIMPS Inside! 3! I also got a mixed burrito. Someone needs to hand them a dictionary. The mixed burrito comes with beans and pulled old meat. I asked what did the mixed burrito had in it, since I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened it and indeed the lady said mixed burritos are made with beans and pulled meat. So every place in like 9 countries I've been to and got a mixed burrito it's a MIXED burrito. With a little bit of everything. You know. What the actual word means. This will actually tell you a lot: bean burritos from Taco Bell are better than this and are not 13 bucks. Btw the mixed burrito was so soggy it was leaking and it ripped the paper wrap it. Never again. I hope tapatios open soon. How did this place survive COVID and still gets customers? Is it because they close late? Take a look at the pictures I got the meat out of the mixed burrito and it's about 0.10oz. It had 3 blocks of meat. Just plastered inside. So that's about 0.30 oz of meat with beans for 13-14 bucks. This has to be the best small business Mexican restaurants in the east SD County. Usually, small business Mexican restaurants are dirty places. This place, as long as I've been there (many times) has always been clean, from the front door, to as we can see in the kitchen, to the dining area to the restrooms. Next and most importantly is the food. It tastes awesome. Have some breakfast burritos there. They're great. Used to stop by here all the time whether going to or returning from Viejas, La Posta, or Golden Acorn. This was our favorite pit stop. Check it out for yourself if you're headed out that way. We had 2 occassions of mold on our tortillas. I tried reaching the Manager and was told they would have them call me. My call was never returned. Today I tried again and was told that there was no Manager or Owner to speak with. I am very disappointed with the employees lack of concern. I've noticed over the past month or two that they're Burritos are getting what are you going very small and all tortilla. I tried calling in to order at 9:15 pm, 45 minutes before close and the phones were "busy" so I walked inside instead to place my order. While paying the store phone rings, and the cashier who was a younger girl jokes to me saying how she "hates when people blow up the phones this late when we close in an hour". Well that answered my question on why nobody picked up when I called, she ignored me. It's not late, it's 9:15 which means you still have 45 minutes of work to be preformed. This place has gone downhill fast. They do not answer the phone in a timely manner (literally was calling for 15 minutes). The process went up, the quality went down. They have the best tortillas for burritos, but the consistency of the orders is not good. On multiple occasions I have gotten black guacamole. Came here twice during my 4-day trip to Alpine. :-) I'd never had a surf-n-turf burrito (mar y tierra on their menu), before coming here, and it was soooo delicious! I had it the first night and then had to buy more before I headed home. :-) The shrimp and steak were very flavorful, and there was a white sauce in the burrito that just made it perfect! I also tried the carnitas plate, machaca plate, and super nachos (or whatever they call it on their menu), and ALL were delicious as well. Would def recommend that you try this place out if you're in the area...I think they have a couple other locations too. Oh, and about the rude service- My bf and I only experienced a little of that when we walked thru the front door and the guy cleaning tables didn't greet us or even so much as smile! We thought it was possible that he didn't speak English, but then we heard him talking/laughing with another customer, and he seemed like he spoke and understood English just fine. So, I guess he's just an unfriendly person, and I may be a harsh critic, but I removed one star for that. My husband and I get food here multiple times a week and always do curbside pick up as we have 4 young kids and don't want to take them in with Covid being so bad...called tonight and the girl refused to take my payment over the phone and refused to do curbside pick up. I have eaten here twice and both times I just have not been impressed. In the visits we have tried: rolled tacos, carne asada burrito, cheese enchiladas, and Rice. None of these dishes have any flavor, and the meat is also dry on top of it. They do have an extensive salsa bar but almost all the salsa is pretty spicy, so if you can't handle heat you will be SOL. Their carrots on the bar are gross too. Literally, they are dry and taste old, like they have been sitting in the fridge for months. Now let's talk price, I paid almost 6 dollars for 2 cheese enchiladas. That is insane! It looks like most things are overpriced. We have visited this location a few times to date. The food taste and quality is good but with all the choices in Alpine service can sway a customer's choice. The last 2 times we have eaten here the same person behind the counter seemed annoyed we were even there. The menu doesn't have details for specific items so we asked some questions. Last time about lunch items and this time about breakfast items. The cashier seemed annoyed that we asked and rattled off the details very quickly. The first time she did this we wrote it off as a bad day as we all have them. Now this the second time with the same person. Only 1 other customer was in the place at the time and no one in line behind us. Stopped on the way down from an epic Mountain Bike Ride looking for a big burrito with tasty ingredients. Mañana did not disappoint! Carnitas with pico and guacamole, it was perfect. I was thinking of beer because alpine makes me think of beer, but we didn't have time for the brewery. Although they didn't have Alpine beer they did have my favorite cerveza Pacifico, that hit the spot with the burrito.
