I was in the parking lot looking around to see what was nearby and saw this place had Mexican food so I decided to check it out. I expected it to be a small hole-in-the-wall type of spot but I was surprised by how spacious it was. I really liked the decor because it felt like I was stepping into a place you would find in Mexico. They had a salsa bar and I liked that they also had pickled onions which was a nice touch. I tried them when I first moved to Alpine now I remember I got a breakfast burrito and it was horrible so I thought I'd try something else this time because I've been going to Tapatio's but they always get our order wrong. This place needs to update their menus. They are outdated by a few years. I was expecting about $25 for a burrito and combination ended up being $35. That's a big difference. We stop here often after dirt bike riding. It's conveniently off the 8 freeway. They have a salsa bar. The birria quesadilla is my usual meal and you can order it deluxe with lettuce, sour cream and guacamole on top. I always take half of it home. Today I ordered the shrimp enchiladas with rice and beans. That might be my new favorite, but I didn't have any leftovers. Service is great and friendly. They also ask to be tipped when ordering at the counter; I cannot abide by this practice since I won't know what sort of service I will re ricé beforehand. I should have know better when I saw the reviews, but I stopped here out of convenience. $20 down the drain. I make it a point to only leave a negative review if I am really, really disappointed and sadly this place left me with a stomachache and feeling hugely disappointed. Food was salty. Tortilla seemed old. My burrito fell apart when I took it out of the wrapper. So did my daughters. Her bean burrito tasted like it was out of a can. And I may be mistaken but the cheese in my burrito tasted like the kind you get in your cafeteria cheeseburger back in elementary school. Plastic-y. I'm not a food snob, but I definitely think this place has nothing but room to improve. It does have a couple things going for it. Clean and big room with lots of tables and space. Decided to give them another try. It's been about a year since I was here last. Ordered Fries Supreme and beef taco/cheese enchilada combo plate. Fries Supreme were 5 star worthy. Enough to feed 2-3 people and lots of flavor. The combination plate was 2 stars for me. The tortilla shell for the taco was chewy, the cheese enchilada was cold and the worst part was that the beans tasted like fish. The rice was great though! The salsas were fresh and tasted good, too. If you haven't eaten here definitely ask what is in what you are ordering because it probably isn't what you'd assume. The food was good but I ordered a California burrito which is typically meat, potatoes (or fries) cheese, guacamole and pico. This was just meat, fries, cheese and sour cream which made it a bit dry but everything still tasted good. I just had to add my own guacamole and pico when I'd rather it have been included especially since it wasn't cheap. While that's on me for not asking since the menu didn't list what was in it, you kinda figure you know what you're getting when you order a classic like a California burrito. First off the cashier taking order was rude, and then my husband did not get what he ordered (carnitas) but instead carne asada, when he said something about it, the cashier said no thats what you ordered and didn't even offer to correct it. I like stopping at Manana's after riding up in the Laguna mountains. Restaurant is usually very clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is usually really good. The service is fairly quick and if they are not too busy they bring the food out to your table. I had the chicken fajita salad today which is usually really good but the chicken was dry and a little overcooked.
