    Surf and Turf Buritto
    Stephen C.

Sometimes you find a gem where you least expect it. Near the Lakeside Rodeo my child started complaining that he was hungry and then he wanted chicken tacos immediately so the nearest thing I saw was this taco shop in the little shopping center next to Dominos 7-Eleven in a car wash. I was at first put off by the homeless people on the ground outside the doorway, However we pushed on through and we're pleasantly surprised at the elegant little taco shop. Sarais' to be exact. We ordered three items. I had the surf and turf burrito two chicken tacos and one quesadilla supreme and I gotta tell you that quesadilla was supreme. It was huge. You had to eat it with a fork and knife and it tasted delicious. The chicken tacos with the bomb perfectly seasoned guacamole and pico. However, the surf and turf was not so surf or turf. I felt it was a lot more rice with two or three shrimps in it and some strips of meat. I could've really tried harder at that one for the size of the burrito it really left to be desired, however I believe we can try again on different items. I was really interested in the tortas so we will probably get back there soon. So if you were in the mood to step over a homeless guy, enter the taco shop, simply pleasantly surprised look no further than Saris taco shop in Lakeside across from the rodeo. I would really wish that we could do something about the homeless, but it's part of society we have to deal with as unfortunate as it is.

Really good I come here daily the staff are friendly and hook me up with free chips and salsa sometimes

The businesses in this area do not help enforce the homeless encampments in the area (most businesses do but the business in this shopping area don't). The homeless urinate and defecate directly behind their business in the sand. This is the SAME sand the employees walk through to take trash in and out. This is an extreme health code violation and food safety issue. This area is also extremely sandy so the soiled sand naturally comes in contact with their business. I wouldn't eat any cross contaminated food from this business. I hope they speak with the property owners to stop allowing full homeless encampments behind their restaurant. The homeless also throws glass outside so you risk having glass thrown at your car or messing up your tires.

Best breakfast burrito I've had in awhile, the tortilla was so soft/fresh! I got the sausage breakfast burrito and asked them to add beans to it. It wasn't greasy and it was bigger than most. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and their green salsa is fire

Got a bean and cheese burrito and the beans weren't hot enough to melt the cheese. Food was still really good!

We were a large group so there were a few people rotating in and out to make our lunch special. The restaurant itself is beautiful. There is outdoor dining as well. Everything is well decorated and maintained. I would say very festive! There's live music on Sundays and Wednesdays. I would love to come back on a Wednesday for the Latin Jazz. The food was amazing! We felt like it was authentic and reasonable price point. For the table, they brought out lots of chips and salsa. It was nice and crispy and flavorful. Not spicy, though. I had ordered the Hacienda Carne Asada. It was a flamed broil skirt steak with a cheese enchilada, rice, beans, and guacamole. The beans came inside a fried tortilla bowl. OH MY! It was so good. I am embarrassed to say, I kept on eating and talking even though I was full. Overall, we had a great time! The food was delicious. The service was amazing. Ample parking. The price point was reasonable in this economy. You get plenty of food. Clean bathrooms. Look at their website for live entertainment schedule! I cannot wait to come back soon!

The tortilla can't hold the generous helping of chicken, which has a great flavor. By the time I finished the second one, and all of the chicken, onion and cilantro that spilled from the tacos, I was full. (I'm a senior citizen and I eat less now than I used to, so YMMV). I like their chicken tacos a lot better than Sombrero's chicken taco a la plancha, which has been my go to for lunch for years. That said, my wife prefers the California burrito at Sombrero, since the one from Chuy's had more fries than meat. The pollo asado quesadilla was very filling and very tasty (plenty of meat). Chuy's is right next door to Funky Burgers, and given the fresh food aspect of Chuy's offerings, I'd say Chuy's is probably better for you.

I ordered a California burrito and asked to swap in adobado pork. No hesitation, no side‑eye, just a nod and a "you got it." That alone puts them ahead of half the shops in the county. The burrito itself delivered. The adobado came through with that deep red glow and smoky tang, the kind of flavor that feels like it's been tended to, not rushed. Fold that into fries, cheese, and a tortilla doing quiet, reliable work, and you get a bite that hits all the right notes. Rich, bright, salty, satisfying. It's a simple thing done well, which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood taco shop. Chuy's isn't trying to reinvent the wheel. They're just making a damn good burrito and treating you right while they do it.
