Even though I paid $1445, the center said that was a special lens not covered by Medicare, and even though they did not have to do anything different for surgery for that lens, they were still entitled to both payments from me and from Medicare, even though they did not put any lens in my eye that is covered by Medicare.

However, everything billing-related has made this experience the absolute worst experience. This may come off harsh, but the fact is Milan Eye Center is incompetent when it comes to billing, and they refuse to take any responsibility. They hire a 3rd party billing company overseas, so every time you call their office to discuss anything "billing-related," you are automatically transferred to their overseas contracted billing partner. Why in the world would you hire such an incompetent company to handle all your billing? This is a multimillion-dollar eyecare practice. We knew this surgery would happen, and switched insurance plans as the new plan had a specific flat in-network $1,000 copay for each eye for Cataract Surgery. The total surgery should have cost $2,000, plus the additional co-payments for other doctor visits/eval pre- and post-surgery. Guess what? Milan Eye Center never billed UHC. At the last moment, we were forced into taking out a $5,000 loan from CareCredit to pay for the Cataract Surgery. To make matters worse, after the surgery, Milan Eye Center billing third party started sending bills for $3,900 for the same surgery. ; First of all. Milan Eye Center will NOT perform any surgery until the costs are all paid off in full, meaning you cannot enter the surgery room, hence why we had to take out the $5,000 loan. So a surgery that should have cost $2,000 with insurance ended up costing $5,000 + now they want another $3,900. Cataract Surgery is not $8,900, including insurance; the total to them should be $10,900? After the surgery, we spoke with the insurance. Milan Eye Center never filed it through them, even though they are in-network. After a year, we finally paid off the $5,000 loan we should have never had to taken out... and now they still want $3,900... A particular shout out to the two opticians who sit on the north side of the lobby. I have entertained the idea of getting LASIK years ago, but after finding out that I was not a candidate for LASIK and had to get PRK instead, I was turned off. The recovery period was quite frightening. But one morning while listening to the Bert Show, he mentioned that he was going to Diamond to get his eyes redone. I researched the company and was impressed by the reviews. I scheduled a consult and things just took off from there. I had a consult on a Tuesday, and was getting surgery on that following Thursday. I will admit that Chris is a little overzealous and pushy with his selling technique, but everyone in the office is very pleasant and knowledgeable. To add to my sense of security, my eye doctor, Dr. Warstadt was able to vouch for one of the doctors at Diamond (Dr. M. McKibbon), stating that he is aware of her skills, so much so, that he tried to hire her. The office itself is clean, they use state of the art technology, and they welcome you with snacks and drinks. I was so nervous about the procedure, but it was not painful and they did everything they could to keep me relaxed, During the procedure they offered me stress balls or a Falcons teddy bear. I opted for the bear. After the surgery, I was still feeling overwhelmed so they let me rest feet up as long as I needed and brought me an ice pack, water and offered me a blanket. I felt cared for and not rushed. I really appreciate that. Before, during and after, I have been able to ask any and all questions that come to mind, and they make it a point to answer each question thoroughly and clearly as possible. Also, the post-op schedule they give you is awesome, It works well for my type-A personality, with check boxes to notate when you take your medications. I would definitely recommend Diamond and Dr. Stetson to anyone who is interested in eye surgery. P.S. Chris knew that I am a fan of the Bert Show and purposely scheduled my surgery for around the same time as Bert's so I could meet him! I met Bert,and he is a sweetheart.
