White Milkweed Tree (unusual looking plant!)
Kimberly L.

[Review #773] 2023-060 Food Order: RAISIN STICKS, CUSTARD ROLL CAKE MamMoth Bakery is located inside Tokyo Central & Main on the right with other eateries. I used to shop here frequently when it was Mitsuwa because this location didn't require a membership, & when it did, I stopped coming. Some years ago, they either merged or was bought up & named Tokyo Central & Main. While the shopping plaza has plenty of parking, it's usually packed around lunch & dinner rush, so you may need to park around the corner on the east side of the market. I was meeting a friend & had some time to kill when I noticed MamMoth Bakery. If they're like other Japanese bakeries, their goodies aren't overly sweet, which I like. Most of their baked goods were already packaged/bagged so I question its freshness. My son picked the bag of raisin sticks & I picked a single slice of custard roll cake. The Japanese lady who rang us up was really nice & friendly, suggesting (upselling) other goodies. No thanks... need to try what we have first before coming back for more. At the register, I noticed this unusual balloon-like plant & asked what it was... she only knew its Japanese name so I researched it at home; it's a White Milkweed Tree. It definitely grabbed our attention while we were browsing the racks of baked goods. Once home, M had the raisin stick for his mid-PM snack. He liked it enough but not loving it, so I took a bite. It was a little dry & didn't have that fresh baked taste. Possibly day old? They have ovens to bake onsite but no baking action when we were there, & didn't smell any fresh breads or baking spices like 85°C or Torrance Bakery during baking, or even its neighbor, Beard Papa's; even so, sometimes that scent lingers in the lobby. I did enjoy the slice of custard roll cake. It was good, & the the sponge cake was moist & fluffy. Not an abundance of custard, about 1:1 ratio of filling to cake. Good variety with competitive prices, MamMoth Bakery serves up a variety of baked goods but there are closer options to me that offers better quality treats. Recommended: Custard Cake Roll, Raisin Sticks.

MamMoth Bakery is the best bakery shop and best customer service in LA! Not only their bakery taste amazing but my atopic won't react with them. Their customer service are amazing and make me happy and feel warm every time I visit. True customer service and omotenashi,

Jess N.

Located inside Tokyo Central market on the right as you walk into the store. Very tiny shop offering Japanese sandwiches, buns, pastry, and I think cake (shown on their website). Though my interactions at the shop were brief, I was assisted by a very sweet lady at the register. My order: Cod roe bread ( French bread smeared with roe. Light and flavorful) Cod roe with shrimp bread (Tons of flavor in every bite) Walnut bread slice (Light and fluffy) Everything was yummy! It was reminiscent to my old favorite Clover Bakery, located up in the bay area. Must go back and try other goodies. What you need to know: - Located inside of Tokyo Central Market - No outside food is allowed inside the market but you can hold it to enter the mini food court section - Parking is ample inside a plaza - Gets busy during peak hours - They have a bread slicer - You can order a cake from their website.

4.5 stars. Got 2 items here since I came here around 5pm Curry pan-Not as good as Curry House..but then again, it wasn't fried to order. The batter was a bit thick and it wasn't at all spicy. However, it was good enough that I finished it all. Chicken Sandwich-Really delicious. Breaded chicken with tomato and shredded cabbage on white chewy bread with sweet bbq like sauce. Can find this at the refrigerator. http://static.px.yelp.com/bphoto/YdO78cC88f7rp1XLNxWc_Q/l Will be back for the sandwiches when I go on my trips to San Diego!

Black sesame custard $3.39

We ordered a small item (black sesame custard) for $3.39. According to yelp reviews, this bakery is suppose to be a hit! We'll find out soon. It's located inside the Murakai Supermarket.

Stopped by here with my husband last Saturday to feed my sweet tooth. This bakery is located in the Marukai Market (in the Pacific Square Plaza), so it is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. Anyways, we ended up purchasing a few things like the honey thick toast, Madeline cookies, curry pork pastry & a cinnamon donut looking pastry (not sure of the exact names of these baked goods). My husband and I shared a few bites of the thick honey toast after we purchased it and it was delicious, but very carb filling! I loved the little Madeline cookies and were moist even a few days after purchasing. My husband liked his curry pastry (he ate it after a few days after purchasing and he said it wasn't dry). The cinnamon pastry wasn't anything special to me and a little dry (that could possibly be due to the fact that I ate it a few days after purchasing). This pastry reminded me of a donut since it was round with a hole in the middle. But I think this pastry was baked instead of deep fried. I think I would have preferred a cinnamon cream filling instead of this pastry rolled or coated in cinnamon. I can see why this place has an overall rating of 4.5 stars (at the time of this review). I will be sure to come back here the next time I am in the area for sure. By the way, there is a $5 minimum for credit card transactions. You can also purchase shaved ice here, which I haven't tried yet but will the next time I come.

Green tea shave ice special $3.75
Santi T.

A bakery with green tea shave ice?!? Would you believe yes?!? We came to this location in the Marukai Shopping Center on a very hot October day to order the green tea shave ice special ($3.75) and were very pleased with the strong Japanese matcha flavor covered condensed milk. This reminded me of the cripsy ice flakes instead of the fluffy Hawaiian shave ice. The only bummer was they ran out of green tea ice cream that accompanied with the special. Unfortunately, I did not purchase any baked goods but they looked incredibly delicious! They have an onsite bakery which carries breads, desserts and pastries. Maybe on my next visit I'll make time and carb up here.

Ham & Cheese Baquette Sandwich

A year ago, when I entered the Pacific Square market, right at the entrance to the food aisles sit a display rack of Cream Pan baked goods. Back when Cream Pan was all the rage from our neighbors in the south. It was a bit embarrassing because the display was right across from MamMoth Bakery. A punch in the gut would have been better than this insult what the supermarket put them through. A year later with much better sense of taste buds and a bit more keen eye, I decided to go back to the same place again. The bakery got accustomed to people walking about and just gawked at baked goods. It doesn't seemed like the people who worked there will helped you right away unless you stood at their counter long enough. After you get through the notion of waiting to be waited upon, the staff will assist in what you needed. There seemed to be a lot of European influenced with a bit of Japanese recipe. Especially with the enriched white bread with fruit pastries on top. Just looking at these pastries makes you wondered where have they been http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/K4PCQ7eMG4jdA9uKcEYbig?select=oLKpbsVkUaMmEk_wO4ssCg . My favorite is the croquette sandwich: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/K4PCQ7eMG4jdA9uKcEYbig?select=Qf7ZqEXHm8Ki6qSN5r07JA A nice pork cutlet sandwich wrapped in the enriched white bread I was talking about and go along with the fresh lettuce and tomato. if there is ever a thing that would hit the spot, this would do it. There is just so many different things to try. I had a feeling they had something new cooked up every single time. To me, I think the non-sweet pastries are the ones that are popular at this place with their baked loaf of bread. As in for Cream Pan, they pretty much disappeared and banished to the other corners that is far from this place. Personally, I think it's done so because it's conflct of interest. Then again, not quite sure why they don't put out Cream Pan stuffs. Oh, don't confuse this place with Beard Papa. As much I loved the old bearded Santa elf, it's not as popular in this quasi food court as the small bakery that can do. You can't missed the bakery since it's on the east end entrance. ---------------- CASH Only with ATM right in walking distance.

I stopped by on a Friday early afternoon to pick up a flan for my daughter's birthday celebration. There was no wait, and the customer service was friendly and welcoming. I decided on the cheesecake flan, and it absolutely did not disappoint! It was rich, creamy, and the perfect combination of cheesecake and flan. Everyone at the celebration had a slice and loved it--there wasn't a single piece left over! That says it all. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of their cakes and desserts. Highly recommend if you're looking for something delicious for a special occasion or just to satisfy your sweet tooth!

On my second and most recent visit, I tried their vanilla and chocolate conchas. I really liked both of these classic flavors. They weren't too sweet, and the conchas were freshly made and still warm when I got them. They pair really well with hot coffee. I haven't tried the coffee here because I usually like eating my concha with black coffee, creamer, and Splenda. I also love dipping my concha in my coffee, so I picked up a hot coffee from McDonald's next door instead. Customer service is good, and the staff have been pleasant both times I've visited. However, during my last visit, only one staff member was working. I went in the morning before work, so it was during the breakfast rush. I had to wait about 10 minutes just to place my order because he was taking orders and preparing the food, and the two people ahead of me had ordered a big box of conchas. It wasn't his fault, and I honestly felt bad that he was working by himself. I hope management makes sure there is enough staff, especially during the busy hours.

It's a family‑run mochi shop that's been quietly perfecting the art of handmade mochi and manju for decades. You walk in, grab your treats, and walk out feeling like you just stepped through a time portal into old‑school G‑Town sweetness. I ordered several varieties of mochi and manju to go, and every piece tasted like someone's grandma woke up at dawn to make sure your day started right. Soft, chewy, fresh, each bite has that unmistakable "made with love" energy. Nothing fancy, nothing flashy, just pure craftsmanship. Vintage to the core. This place has that old‑school Japanese bakery charm, minimal, humble, and frozen in time in the best way possible. It's grab‑and‑go, no frills, no fuss. The kind of place where the walls could tell stories if they wanted to, but they're too polite to interrupt your mochi moment. Those who know this spot... know. It's one of those Gardena classics that locals speak about with a little pride and a little nostalgia. Service was excellent, warm, quick, and genuine. You can feel the family's heart in the way they greet you, pack your order, and keep this place running year after year. They're not trying to be trendy; they're trying to make you happy, one perfect piece of mochi at a time. Plenty of street parking. Easy in, easy out. No drama. Sakura‑Ya is a reminder that great food doesn't need flash, just skill, tradition, and heart. Every piece of mochi and manju tastes like a small pleasure crafted by people who genuinely care. If you grew up around Gardena or have been exploring its food scene for years, this place hits you right in the nostalgia. "A classic. A staple. A sweet little time machine." I was so surprised by the location because from the outside, it looks a little run down and I don't imagine myself stumbling across this place unless if I was looking real hard for it, but I was so happy to have come here. First off, I've heard not from my friend Cindy but also another friend that this is probably the most tastiest, hand-made mochi spot. They have an array of delicious mochi desserts ranging from matcha flavored to the more generic snow mochi with red bean as well. I was stuffed from my lunch but managed to grab three different types of mochi and I cannot wait to go back again to try the other flavors. We found parking on the main street, but also noticed that there's a neighborhood in the back where you can park and walk over.
