Mammoth is a very cute little bakery inside marukai in pacific square. I used to live/work very close to this plaza and would usually grab a small lunch from mammoth. My favorite is the egg sandwich! It comes with three little sandwiches with egg salad and tomato. So good! They have a variety of sandwiches, bread, desserts and more! This is my favorite authentic japanese bakery ever. I love all their breads, but especially the Honey Bread (which has to be eaten on the day of, not one day after... i learned it the hard way) and the curry bread. They actually display a very vast variety of pastries (including fresh made sliced bread). The service is very good, and one of the girls behind the counter is a total cutie (does she still work there?). hahahaha. This is my favorite Asian bakery in all of LA county and OC! I'm pretty picky when it comes to quality of food but I have to say their mentaiko bread (cod roe potatoe bread - not the one in French bread but the regular one) is GREAT!!!! I'm literally addicted to it and freshly baked ones are just HEAVENLY!! The quality is great overall with most stuff they carry. As long as you go early in the morning and get hot-fresh-right out of the oven ones, honey butter bread can be totally awesome, too! My friend keeps on telling me that they have the best Japanese pudding in town. I have to try it one of these days! Oh, don't forget to take your cash! They only take cash. I'm a huge fan of MamMoth Bakery's afternoon sales! Chicken Katsu and Beef Katsu sandwiches for $2.50 each? What a deal! Just stay vigilant, because the daily mark downs on each items price don't happen at the same time everyday-- it depends on sales on their sales. I tried the CURRY BUN, which was rather tasty. The bun is fairly large ,and filled with yummy curry ( which I love). I was a tad disappointed since it didn't seem that fresh. My suggestion would be to go as early as possible. Just as another yelper stated I have had better, but hey it's only about a 10-15 min drive from home. They do have an ample selection of other breads ,which I will be back to try. read more

I would give them 4 stars if those tiny bread didn't cost so much~!! I notice their price goes up and up each time I come here and I mean like every month! I realized the price is 10-20 cents more with each visit. And selection is now so limited. They don't make my mom's favorite "sweet potato twist"!!! MamMoth Bakery is definitely one of my favorite Japanese bakeries in L.A. Their bread quality is just dreamy and to die for. It's sweetness and softness brings my childhood back to me, since I used to get to enjoy Japanese inspired bakeries' goods while spending my childhood in HK. MamMoth Bakery's stuffed pans is so good, it can bring anyone or give anyone the joyous smiles. Every bite of their breads can seriously sweep you off your feet. It's just plain irresistible. Quick Update: I began to notice saltiness in their breads. I'm not sure if it was always like this but it's too much for me. Sometimes I have the sliced white bread with mozzarella cheese on top (Quick cheese pizza sort of), and the saltiness stands out. To confirm, I eat the bread alone first and sure enough it's salty, this kind of kills the good bread joy IMHO, not pleasant. Black sesame toast! Fluffy and fresh! Not many places carry items made with black sesame and this is one of the few. Today, I did see black sesame pudding but I was too full to eat anything else. Next time ;) Ok, that's all that I've purchased here so far, but everything looks yummy and fresh baked! Steam coming out of bag is always a good thing when it comes to bread! I have never entered a physical MamMoth Bakery before, but I have always picked up their bread products at my local Nijiya Market. Their loaf breads are the best loaf breads I have tasted. The walnut bread, marble bread, and milk bread are simply delicious. My favorite, and the one I would recommend to all is the walnut bread. The topping for the walnut bread, and for all of their breads, is buttery and delicious. The interior of the breads are soft and light. A slice is perfect as is, even better when lightly toasted. The wonderful texture and flavor are simple, but enough so that there is no need for butter or jam. I often find myself eating almost the whole loaf in one sitting. I work in Pacific Square in the 4 story office building so this is very much my go-to snack counter right before work or right after work. It's located within Marukai Market which makes it easy to find and very convenient. I've tried a few things from here as suggested by other Yelpers. My favorite thing has to be the Curry Roll. How can you go wrong with a portable, deep fried, curry version of a meat bun? It's the perfect consistency and taste! The honey toast is also a delicious food item, but I grow wary of things that I can easily make at home. With that said, the honey toast is absolutely delicious to anyone with a huge sweet tooth. You really, really have to like sugar for this selection. Everything at this little bakery is reasonably priced considering that all the food and baked goods are fresh. I highly highly suggest you try this little place out. You'll surely find something you'll like. read more

The worker on Tuesday at 5:10pm should be sent to a customer service training. It is not only once, not twice but three times now that has given me the worse service. First, a few months back when she was too lazy to make coffee and she served me watered down coffee. Second was when she refused to give me utensils for what I bought. And this last time was when I tried to order hot tea and she only gave me hot water and tried to argue with me that I didn't order tea. She even told me I don't have enough money for the tea. And before this tea ordeal i had to get her attention because she was chatting away with her friend. Out of all the workers that work there, she is by far the worse employee. Whoever is the owner of this bakery needs to talk to her and teach her customer service. I can be extremely indecisive when it comes to food--especially if it's good food--because if I had my way I would just shove everything in my mouth with one expansive sweep of the hand. I tend to get strong urges for this sweep-and-shove action when I go to MamMoth Bakery. So many good eats, so little tummy space! Yes, the honey bread is good. And so is everything else. (well i dunno about their sandwiches.) They must put hella butter in those suckers. hey, I'm not complaining. The little Asian lady behind the counter is so cute! She's always soooo happy. I must say it's contagious. I remember going around Halloween and she wouldn't let me take a candy out of the bucket in front of her register until I had said "trick-or-treat". The only downside is that it's cash only and since it's in a supermarket, it doesn't have that "Asian bakery" smell... ya know what I'm talking about? Mammoth Bakery is just amazing!! I know there's alot of carb conscious folks out there, but if you can spare a slice of their bread, give it a try. You will not regret it. The bread is super duper fresh and soft!! It really feels like its melting in your mouth. If you happen to be there when a fresh batch camesout of the oven, grab that loaf of bread!! They don't tie the bag yet because it's still hot!! YUMMY!!! This bakery is inside the Marukai supermarket in Gardena (the one on Redondo Beach), bakes on site and has a variety of pastries as well. My favorites: tarako pan; takako & potato; cheese pan; honey baked pan; cream pan; cream pan. They have other sweeter pastries, but haven't tried - I'm watching what I eat, lol... You have to go and try it. Beard Papa used to be the place to get 'pastries' aka cream puffs, but now, the line is at Mammoth. AND, if you're going to buy a loaf of bread anyways, why not swiing by Mammoth. I grew up with Japanese bread (Pasco, Yamasaki, and any other brands at the Japanese markets), but this just blows them all away!!!! I recently bought a loaf at the bakery in Mitsuwa (can't recall name) and it was good, but I could immediately tell the difference!!! Love it! read more

oh hello little awesome japanese bakery tucked away in the corner of the market... with cute guy at register.. at first glance it doesn't seem like they have much ~ especially when you've been bombarded with places like paris baguette or 85c in orange county. but everything looked fabulous and i have this thing for baked goods.. picked up a few pieces and could not walk by the freshly baked honey butter bread.. just toast with honey and butter.. but stinking AWESOME... it was delicious. crispy, sweet, buttery.. god i love bread. they had this really neat looking apricot bread too.. everything was fabulous. they have sandwiches and other goodies.. definitely would come back here again. this place is so much better than beard papas.. which is a different kind of baked good.. but i'd crave this honey toast over beard papas any day! will return to this market.. will definitely recommend. nom. read more

I would come here every day if it wasn't soooo far away! I'm sort of a self proclaimed expert on Japanese breads having spent a week gaining 10 pounds eating my way through bakeries in Tokyo last October. Mammoth bakery could stand with the best of them in Japan. My absolute favorite bread here is the spicy cod roe potato either on the french bread or the soft bun. It sounds weird, but trust me, it's delicious. Also good is the curry donut, the C.O.B. (corn onion bacon) and just the plain loaf. Be sure to get the thickly sliced loaf so that each piece will toast up crusty on the outside and soft like a cloud on the inside. MMMM! Great. Rundown - Love Japanese Bakeries! - This isn't the best one but it is decent - I've had a few of their items I always pass by the counter and want to try the French Toast slice. One day, I tried it and was disappointed think I was just expecting way too much. However, I do like the bread. It's fluffy on the inside and not tough on the outside. I like places that still give you the option of buying it uncut. If you ask them, they usually have a few in the back. I have this bread for breakfast (and sometimes as a late night snack). What I like to do is, slice it very thick. At least 1.5 inches! I toast it in the toaster oven...wait for it to get a little golden brown on the top. Lightly spread some butter on top and let it bake for another minute. Right before its done, I drizzle honey all over the toast.....and let it bake again. It come out crispy and the butter/honey soaks through the bread. It's so good! Have it with a cup of coffee and you're set. read more

I've been here once with a friend and recently came back because the bread was SO yummy! My friend got me addicted to the Spicy Cod with Potato, and the prices aren't too bad; got a bad full for about 10 bucks, considering that I also go to the Asian places in LA (Monterey Park, Alhambra, San Gabriel, etc.) and get bread there, which is a little more pricey, but it's basically the same thing with a fancier bag. The only drawback is that it's kind of far from me, but I think it's worth the drive. Should check it out whenever you're in the area! read more

This bakery is very good. Some popular items sell real quick so you wanna go there in the morning! I have not tried everything there but here is what I like: Butter roll: very soft and mochi-y and nice flavor to it. Atsugiri (thick slices) loaf: Very mochi-mochi texture and very good. I like to put natto&mayonase and bake it! Mentai potato: Very soft and mentai flavor goes sooo well with potato. *croissant was not so good.. I like cake house's better. I give 4 stars instead of 5 though because we cannot get what we want all the time due to the limited amount. read more

I've tried the Melon Pan, the An-Pan and Cream Pan and all three have been delicious. Their breads are not too sweet and is perfect for that late afternoon snack. Everything seems fresh and inviting. I came here on a whim because I forgot my lunch at home on a work day and I am not familiar with the area. Looked this place on yelp and found that there were curry pans here! Well, it's called a curry "roll". I must say, I prefer Nijiya Market's curry pan more because of two reasons. 1) The bread here is not as sweet and soft and 2) the curry roll here is cold. BUT, I do like the inside fillings with actually carrots that you can chew on. And the service here is of great quality. They are really nice and courteous. Visiting Tokyo and seeing the many bread bakery shops known as 'pan-ya', I was hoping someday to see that here. But the concept of having bread in an open environment for all those to touch and not using those damn tongs, well could lead to an unsanitary environment. Putting bread behind the glass and waiting for the clerk to choose didn't feel the same. Mammoth bridged this gap by limiting what you can choose and what they will get. One item I recommend trying is honey toast. If you thought Crispy Creame was a violation of your diet, then Honey Toast might push you over the edge. The fresh bread is very good too. Making a sandwich with this bread is truly a tasty meal. A very nice addition to Pacific Marukai and one reason to come hear than Marukai market. read more

Had a company dinner at Sea Empress, which is in the same plaza. Didn't have much to eat since I'm the type of vegetarian that doesn't eat seafood. So I was still sort of hungry when I went into Marukai. I got the marble bread and the cream puffs. The marble bread was excellent. The cream puffs are a bit different from the cream puffs I'm use to, which isn't good or bad. My first impression was soggy from refrigeration, but I think the pastry is supposed to be soft and by the 3rd puff you just get use to it. Prices are pretty good. Wouldn't go out of my way to pick up these Japanese treats. If I were ever in the area, I would definitely pop in. read more

*sigh* I hate to do this but people need to know. I absolutely LOVE Mammoth Bakery but after today I will no longer return. I went over the fridge to grab a ham sandwich (my fav!)for lunch. When i took one out, i noticed that there was some sort of green stuff sprinkled on top of the packaging. So i grabbed another one, & that one had a small glob of GREEN MOLD on the packaging. I wanted to tell the lady working @ the register but she was busy helping a customer, so i decided to wait until she was free because i didn't want to make a scene or anything. So while i was waiting, i kept looking at the fridge i noticed that the clear plastic cover (that covers the fridge) also had spots of green mold. It was so gross! So finally the lady was free & i took the ham sandwich with the glob of green mold on the packaging & showed it to her. & she tried to convince me that it wasnt mold!! Are you freakin' kidding me?? She grabbed the green glob with her fingers & said it was "freezer burn" but wait it gets better... So she just wiped her fingers on a rag & tried to reassure me that it wasnt mold & proceeded to help the next customer. She didnt even wash her hands!! I'm so disappointed & grossed out. 1st Mottainai & now Mammoth Bakery! I mean c'mon people! You are dealing with food & the health of the public! Take the freakin' time to clean up!! Located inside the Maruki Market on Redondo Beach Blvd, MamMoth Bakery is my favorite bakery in the area. Dare I say, it's better than JJ Bakery on Crenshaw and Beard Papa right across the aisle.. I've tried quite a few things here, and I've been quite happy with what I've gotten. 1) Honey Bread - As Yuko mentioned, it's a thick honey glazed toast. A definite must get. 2) Curry Pan - I love the deep fried curry bread. I loved it when I had in Japan, and this place makes a mean Curry Pan. 3) Green Tea Pan - I swear to god they're either not making it or are running out the last few times I've gone there. I really like this one too. 4) Pudding - There are 2 flavors, but I prefer the original. Located in their refrigerator, it's one of my favorite things to get in the bakery. There are a few other things I want to try next time, including the Cod Roe bread, but these items makes a pretty light meal or a snack. Remember, it's Cash Only! read more

Honey butter bread!!! Yeah, that's what I usually get when I go. I went the other day to get some for a few friends of mine but there was only one piece left. They said if I wanted to wait 20 minutes, they would bake a fresh batch. WOOHOO! It's about a 2" thick slice of bread with honey baked on the top. It's so yummy! I also like their loaf of plain white bread. Very moist. Great to toast with some butter in the morning. I got my coworker hooked on it and she asked me to get a loaf for her birthday. read more

4.5 stars? Methinks not. 3.5 maybe..I come here quite frequently since I moved to Gardena and I no longer live near JJ's or Tous Les Jours. The cream bread is really good, soft moist bread with sweet cream in the middle. Yum I can eat the whole loaf in one sitting. The honey bread is also good, but it's not the best. I go to Guppy House and eat their fab brick toast. This one doesn't even come close to Guppy House's brick toast. Everything else is meh. The corn tuna would be good except for some reason the tuna tastes like how cat food smells- not appealing. It also leaves the bread really soggy and gross. They skimp on the red beans inside the red bean pan so you're essentially eating bread. The hotdog is decent, but for half the price the ones from JJ are waaaay more bomb. The little cakes in the refrigerated section are typical of Japanese desserts- really cute but not much flavor womp womp :( I had a sandwich here, I forget which one, but I think I prefer Nijiya market sandwiches to the ones from here. The cool thing about this place is if you come about an hr before closing and spend over $10 they give you a free gift of more baked items. I wish I could give this place more stars, but my taste buds won't allow it. read more

I have been stopping here a few times to buy their roasted chestnuts. They charge $7.80 for 10pcs, which is really expensive but good until today...I opened one up and found a dead worm with eggs inside. Super grossed out.
