This Italian restaurant provides plenty of options for pasta as well as pizza. I was there with a large group and everybody ordered something a little bit different. In hindsight because the portions are so large we easily could've ordered one or two entrées and split them. I opted for the classic fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. OMG. Seriously. It's not my first day with Italian food. I served it from a very authentic kitchen from 1990 to 1993. That restaurant was considered the best Italian restaurant for 50 miles around. When compared to Mamma Rosa, it sucked. The portions were generous, and delicious. The pasta, bread, and pizza shells are made from scratch daily - and it shows. First time in Kelowna and had a night went we didn't plan for dinner. Made a last minute decision to go to Mamma Rosa and we are so glad we did. They closes at 9 but we weren't making our way over until 8. Called ahead to make sure it's ok and was informed the kitchen closes at 830 but we are welcome to come as long as we make it to last call. Arrived at 8:15 and were seated right away. Quickly look through the menu and ordered and foods on the table steaming hot with in 15 minutes. Food was great! The pizzas are full of flavors and the crust is crunchy and toasty. The portion of the food is huge! For sure a place to come back to next time we come back to Kelowna. read more

Very disappointed with the spaghetti Bolognese. Food came out within minutes of ordering. The sauce tasted like ketchup with cheap meat. After discussing the issue with the waitress she asked if we wanted to reorder. Moments later she came back saying we still have to pay half of the meal we barley touched. We could see by the bar the waitresses were talking and making remarks about us as we weren't happy with the food which made us feel very comfortable. If the matter was dealt professionally we probably would have ordered a different dish. We left paying half the bill and eating some where else. read more

We're on vacation and experiencing Kelowna for the first time. We wanted a cozy Italian place, and Mamma Rosa did not disappoint! The decor was fabulous, beautiful paintings lovingly framed within brick arches, decorations artfully placed; I'm no interior designer but even *I* could tell that everything was just perfectly placed, festive, cozy without being pretentious. It was a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The servers were all welcoming, cheery, pleasant and more than willing to engage in humorous banter with me. (I like to joke around with servers; we had a great time!) The food was to die for. My daughter was thrilled with the garlic bread; flavorful, with just enough garlic. My wife and I wanted just toasted bread, which was cheerfully provided and delicious as well. Then to the main course. Portion sizes were VERY generous, pasta had a special something that we struggled to identify until the menu revealed it's all handmade daily by the chef. WOW. My veal cannelloni was smothered in cheese, steaming hot, aromatic and flavorful. My wife LOVED her spaghetti bolognese and my daughter was also very pleased with her spaghetti pomodoro with meatballs. We enjoyed the meal with a house red; I forget the name or blend, but it was "the full-bodied one." Rich, flavorful, a bit of zing but smooth at the same time. Welcoming friendly service from the moment we entered, followed by efficient, well timed service - these ladies are good. Traditional, cozy plaid table cloths and bright Italian painted scenes. Subdued Italian music in the background. For an appetizer we took advantage of the free classic bruschetta from Yelp, awesome! It was very good, we would definitely order that again. The tomatoes were absolutely fresh and scrumptious, the bread toasted but still chewy, I loved that it didn't crumble into a zillion pieces as bruschetta sometimes can. All three of our party had pasta, the lasagna bolognese was the winner at our table. The tomato sauce was thick & rich, definitely homemade. My personal preference would've been less cheese on top, but I think I'm alone in that. The pasta portions are large with no option for 1/2 orders so plan to take some home. The toasted garlic bread basket was a nice touch too, mmmmm bread! The seasonal specials sounded great, and the dessert tray looked amazing. Took my mother there in celebration of her 90th birthday as it was the weekly Friday night dinner while my father was alive and her favorite place .When I made the reservation I explained this and they said they would note this on the reservation and make her feel special Our server had no knowledge of nor did she recognize Mom's 90th which was a bit disappointing. The ambience had changed now without the checkered tablecloths and candles .The server was OK but was quite inattentive then seemed to rush us at the end even though there wasn't any patrons waiting and the restaurant was maybe half full .We ordered bread and there was an upcharge for oil and balsamic..The food is good not spectacular with very large portions, too large in my opinion as everyone took home a box with enough for a second meal.It's pricey for sure with a bill of $ 188.00 excluding tip for 3 people .Very clean and well maintained . read more

The staff were very friendly, but the FOOD was absolutely HORRIBLE. Ordered the lobster/crab ravioli, which had an incredibly WATERY SAUCE and tasteless ravioli... My mum also ordered a cream/based sauce (Alfredo), which had a watery sauce and tiny frozen shrimp (which cost an extra $6). Absolutely disgusting. There was nothing authentically Italian about this meal. The bread, that came out before the meal, was re-heated bread (toasted) and completely dry. The menu was waaaay too long! Make 10 dishes, instead of 80 terrible ones. Very disappointed after hearing that I HAD to eat here when I'm in Kelowna. The food was decent, the service was fine, the restaurant is nice and clean. My main beef with this restaurant is the pricing. All the dishes and sides are priced like this is a first class gourmet restaurant and it just isn't. Plus there are extra charges for everything! My Lasagna was $23 but if I wanted Ricotta Cheese in it it's an extra $3. Really?... Isn't lasagna supposed to have ricotta cheese in it? The veal parmesan was $30 but an extra $3 if you want spaghetti instead of penne with it. That is just off putting when the meal is already expensive. A small side salad was $10. Soda is $2.50... but no refill! I have no problem paying for an expensive meal if the value is there. But Mama Rosa's is basically a "Spaghetti Factory" experience with a gourmet price tag. read more

I'll start by saying I am an authentic Italian who lived in Canada for only 2 years; I went to dine at Mamma Rosa with my parents who were visiting from Italy and wanted to eat some pasta after 2 weeks of bison steaks, sushi and beef. We ordered: - linguine with broccoli and salsiccia - pasta with bolognese sauce with meatballs - pizza margherita Pasta was homemade and fresh and delicious, although the broccoli were frozen ones; the portions were also a very good size ( I call it Italian size) and the meatballs perfect. The only thing I don't understand is why they would ask if you want a sauce other than olive oil on linguine with broccoli... Pizza was overall good, the crust cooked to perfection, although the dough a little too thick. The menu is not 100% authentic Italian. Of course, there is Alfredo sauce and garlic bread, but we know those are not really Italian; I guess Mamma Rosa had to blend into Canadian taste. The decor inside is pretty and the music is traditional. The real downside of this place was our waitress: snob, cold, and not polite. She looked at us coldly when she understood my parents couldn't speak English. She was a woman around her 40ies, who looked like she was responsible of the other girls ( who were, par contre, very nice). My husband and I were the first to arrive for a casual dinner before attending the Actors Studio Theatre. We'd just ordered a bottle of wine when a family of 5 walked in, the baby was shrieking! They were seated 2 tables away where the baby continued to wail. We immediately decided this was not the dining atmosphere expected in a relatively pricey restaurant. When I explained why we were leaving, the server made it clear to all to hear that it was a "family restaurant." We would have spent at least $120.00 + tip, but now won't go back because of how she handled this. I am a mother of 3 young adults, when the children were young, while out in public whether to eat or elsewhere, if they became disruptive, one of us took them out to ensure the comfort of others. On saturday we showed up without reservation, no chance. Actually that was something leading to the assumption that this is a good place to dine. Unfortunately Italy is very far away from Canada and dishes have been enhanced for the North American taste. We had chicken ravioli in a creamy sauce and giant shelfs stuffed with ricotta and spinach. The cream sauce had now own taste and I am quite sure that the ravioli were not home made. We wanted Italian food and found this place in both a local tourist magazine and here on yelp. So glad we went. We arrived during dinner rush but lucked out on getting the only available table. Looking at the wine list, my husband chose one solely on the listed blend. It was Angel Share from Montakern winery....delicious. For dinner, he chose the meat canonelli and I had the ravioli de pollo. Both we very flavorful and filling. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, we couldn't pass up dessert. He had the peanut butter pie (nice roasted peanut flavor without being too sweet) and I had the tiramisu....both were phenomenal. Highly recommend this place for a wonderful dinner. read more

I've had a couple recommendations from friends to check out Mamma Rosa's restaurant. When i I walked in I really loved the atmosphere, the warmth and the decoorations. I brought with me my 4 year old son and girlfriend to share a rare night out for dinner. The least I can say is that i wasn't very impressed. The pasta noodles themselves tasted fresh , probally made in house, but the sauce all which we tried lacked inspiration, flavour, texture and respect from me. The prices are fairly high considering what you are given for quality. My son ordered a pizza , he is 4 years old. They brought him a pipping hot pizza (never do this ), the pepperoni was spicy (no warning on this) and once we asked if they had any alternatives on the pasta eg : whole wheat they looked at us funny. The serving staff were 40 + year old ladies, who are good at their jobs, but you know there sick of doing it. We paid for a small little kids pizza X2 pasta dishes a glass or red wine and a shirley temple $110. I would rank this foood close to boston pizza quality. I would charge more like $55 for the meal. I've heard from others that have lived here awhile they say it's gone down hill. Sorry for the bad review, but maybe you need to revaluate what your serving . read more

Went on a Tuesday in August at the height of the season. Needed a table for six so I made a reservation...great idea on my part. Nice welcoming service staff, terrific flavourful food and lots of appealing menu choices for everyone (kids too) in attendance. Pricier than I had planned for but you get what you pay for! My first time here ...with friends who used to live up here and came often enough to want to come back. Lovely accommodating servers...very homey welcoming atmosphere... A bit spendy: an appetizer of artichokes with lemon and capers (at least two of the pieces of artichokes with parts so wood-y they should not be eaten let alone served); shells stuffed with ricotta & a side of Italian sausage; spaghetti w/ garlic and olive oil & a side of Italian sausage; cannelloni filled with spinach & cheese w/meat sauce ("way way too much cheese") and gluten-free rice penne w/ garlic and olive oil (for the vegan-moi); a liter of a good house red (remember this is wine country!) and a superlative (I didn't eat it but could tell and confirmed later that it was) marzipan w/pine nuts crusted lemon custard dessert topped with vanilla gelato and a type of whipped cream + 2 decaffeinated coffees came to @ $145 (CAD) including tip. Was the food worth it?.... eh...not the best penne w/garlic and olive oil. My companions thought the dessert was wonderful. "The sausages were half the size they used to be.""There was way way too much cheese." The evening was lovely. Would I return? Perhaps. Perhaps not. *************************************************************************** So the next day when our friends picked us up at our motel, they began by expressing their need to apologize for the pasta from the night before: they don't know what has happened-they always used to love going to Mamma Rosa's (our friend is half Italian/half Greek and grew up in a household where pasta was made.) They had to share that indeed it was so bad that their Shih Tzu (queen of pasta doggie bags) REFUSED TO EAT the leftovers they brought home. More conversation brought out the following fine0tuning: the sausages seemed 'old' and were actually 1/3 the size they used to be. And the canelloni had more cheese atop that the pasta itself was overwhelmed and the meat sauce choice seemed an afterthought. I'll leave it at a 3 stars knowing that we are a tough crowd. We visit Kelowna 5 or 6 times a year and after hearing about Mama Rosa's from all the locals, we finally had our first visit. It will not be long before we have our second, third and fourth meals at this amazing Italian Restaurant. The pasta is out of this world and the prices are reasonable. There were so many dishes I wanted to try. I had the meat cannelloni and barely breathed as I ate every morsel. There were 8 of us at dinner and everyone enjoyed their meals.
